I'm not as big of a Petty fan as I should be....something inexplicable holds me back from his whole catalog. I mainly just stick with Damn the Torpedoes, Hard Promises and Wildflowers, which would be one of my favorite albums. But Damn the Torpedoes is hard to beat. Killer from start to finish.
Excellent video. At some point you referenced Teenage Fanclub and blew my mind. You are well rounded. Ever do a live stream? And you got me interested in some of those later albums. Peace. Top 10 Tom Petty albums as of today: 10. Southern Accents 9. Into The Great Wide Open 8. Echo 7. Full Moon Fever 6. Long After Dark 5. You're Gonna Get It! 4. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 3. Hard Promises 2. Damn The Torpedoes 1. Wildflowers
Full Moon Fever is his masterpiece in my opinion. My favourite album of 1989. For me you had it pretty low at 5. Damn the Torpedoes and Wild Flowers id rank a shade behind it. They’re generally regarded by most Petty fans as his best three. Into The Great Wide Open I’d have higher also but each to their own. The Last DJ is the only one I don’t really like. I actually would have said The Byrds to Big Star to Tom Petty to Teenage Fanclub 👍🏻
Never quite understood the whiney "This album is just too long." complaint. If you can't pay attention for 60 minutes then you got serious problems, and it's painfully obvious you've never read a book. So, if your ADD is totally out of control, first seek help, and in the meantime just listen to half the album before you completely go stir crazy. If a record goes on for 60 minutes and it's loaded with great songs then quit yer bitchin'!
LOL….wow. So many crazily wrong assumptions but okay. But yeah, I feel, my opinion, that albums can be too long. Thanks though for so respectfully sharing your opinion. SMH.
And if you ever want I would LOVE to discuss Infinite Jest with you…or anyone. One of my all time favorite books. I also love Of Mice and Men….primarily because it is real short.
One last comment, sorry: since we both apparently love books (much to your surprise), I highly recommend Sam Moses’ River Without A Cause, a history of Brazil’s River of Doubt, detailing both Teddy Roosevelt’s attempts to map it and a modern attempt to replicate Roosevelts attempt. Fascinating read. I have always wanted to start a book series and am now more motivated than ever to do so….so thanks! Also, some albums are still too long.

Damn the torpedoes definitely isn’t in my top 5 but might not even make it into the top 10 for me.

Full Moon Fever at 7? Even behind You’re Gonna Get It and Long After Dark?
@@JCStorm76 Full Moon Fever is so overrated to my ears. And those hits got stale quickly. Depending On You is great.
@@kevtruth Let’s agree to disagree
Damn The Torpedoes, totally agree!
