That seems to be a running gag that Vince gives to giants he doesn't like anymore. The last one he did it to was Shanky (he was the huge 7 footer who would hang out with Jinder Mahal). Shanky went from being an enforcer to becoming a comedy dancer (he started doing comedy dances and Jinder would get angry at him). Before that was Great Khali (he had a huge fall from grace. From World champ to funny dance gimmick). Brodus Clay (who is 6'7, he is deceptively tall) is the most famous one that got stuck with a dancing gimmick. There are most likely others who I'm not thinking of right now. The ONLY one with a dance gimmick of sorts in WWE that actually worked was Honky Tonk Man (granted, that gimmick had multiple things going for it. The dancing was more of a side thing, not the focus).
@johnpenguinthe3rd13 each and every gimmick related to dancing was pushed by Vince. They were given tv and ppv time. So everything you said is pretty much wrong.
I have to admit Kurrgan is in my boy stable. The biggest problem for him (apart from talent) was they were pushing him as an unstoppable monster but they already had one higher up the card, Kane. He never had a chance.
i love both The Truth Commission and Kurrgan i'm a big underground metal and electronic music fan. these are the type of acts that stick with you, they werent great, they werent pushed, they werent known, but somehow you found them and you love the hell outta em it works even better because The Headbangers worked with Kurrgan. love all the Morbid Angel and death metal shirts they would wear to the ring. same reason i love Erik Rowan and all the Viking dudes of recent times
Funny story: Don Phallus (could have also been Lance Storm, not sure) once mentioned that Kurrgan was only made to dance after Vince McMahon saw him do it at a WrestleMania afterparty. This lead to the quote: "Don‘t do anything in front of Vince McMahon, that you wouldn‘t do for a million people."
The Oddities have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Almost all of their matches sucked, but their entrances were very infectious to me for some reason, crowd always loved them too.
Idk man I think Kurggan deserves a little more credit than this. The Oddities weren't DX but they were pretty fun at the time and part of that was him dancing. And watching even this video you can see him get better in the ring towards the end of the run and they barely let him wrestle. He didn't have a ton of moves but the ones he did got WAY smoother and more devastating looking. I don't think he could've been a huge star but I think he could've gotten over more than he did if he turned on the oddities and went on a monster run. I'm probably in the minority but I kind of like Kurggan
I remember that Recon, aka Bull Buchanan, was actually quite fun to watch in the ring back then he was 300 pounds and 6'7, and he can move around the ring like a cruiserweight. Too bad they prioritize a guy whose only move is sidewalk slam over a guy who can actually wrestle competently
By all accounts Robert Maillet is actually quite a nice guy in real life, and has quite the list of acting credits (300, Deadpool 2, Percy Jackson). And I always loved The Jackyl. I tell anyone, he should’ve been The Higher Power. The Ministry of Darkness was a cult. He was literally a cult leader!
Too bad The Oddities and their dancing gimmick wasn't around the same time as Too Cool began theirs. They could have made some kind of semi interesting angle with that.
The fact that Vince McMahon had one single moment out of his extremely busy day to actually witness Kurrgan dancing is the most surprising part of his whole run. A run that likely earned him more money and a longer run than he ever would have, had Vince not seen him dancing.
You phrased this as if Vince was busy at his desk and someone said "sir... You're gonna want to see this. It's Kurrgan, and he's... Well, he's dancing."
Pacific Rim made me notice Kurrgan's unique neck anatomy makes him perfect for wearing body armor with huge shoulder pads. I kinda wish he goes for a role in the Warhammer 40k series as a Space Marine or in a future Fallout episode wearing Power Armor. 😅
Fun fact: That second theme he used was later used for the Acolytes when they first teamed with Jackyl managing them. This is why that song was in the WWF Attitude video game despite that run being short-lived when he got fired and they moved to working with Taker and the Ministry stuff.
Love getting some good old Hawk notifications. Also just thinking - how about a show from Control Your Narrative on the "how bad could it be?". Maybe eclipse WCW, maybe awesome. Let's find out.
The best part about Kurrgan that I can remember is in the PS1 video game WWF Attitude Kurrgan was extremely OP. If memory serves his attacks did the most damage out of everyone on the roster. Mind you, this is based off of my memory at 9 years old.
I actually loved that tag team dumb,e match. Outside of just being a unique concept they’ve never used again, I was a big fan of monster gimmicks. So I marked out when the Oddities hit the ring and went straight for Mankind and Kane.
The Truth Commission should of had old AWA wrestler Col DeBeers as their manager It was 1997 Don't know if he was retired by he wasn't that old Especially if he was only a manager 😊
I enjoyed Kurrgan as a monster and loved The Jackyl, it was by far my favorite incarnation of Don Callis. He was so believable portraying a New Age cult leader. Logically, he was the best choice for the Higher Power and word on the street is they were planning on him being revealed as such, backstage tensions prevented that. Ironically, Bradshaw owes his job to Jackyl as he was on the way out if not for the Acolytes gimmick, yet he was the reason for Jackyl being let go.
So you're saying that we have Don Callis to blame for the fact that JBL has been lingering around the WWF/E like a case of herpes for the last 30 years?
The then WWF truly dropped the ball, not on Kurrgan or however its spelled, but with The Natural Don Callis. He was supposed to debut with a returning Model Rick Martel as The Supermodels but Martel opted to go to WCW in '97 instead. But Callis's Canadian independent work with the likes of Edge, Christian Cage, Rhyno, Joe E Legend and Bad News Brown is highly underrated....Callis was a good worker!
It's insane that they built up Kurrgan so much just to have him job to Drogz. They could've had him put over someone a little more substantial like British Bulldog, Undertaker, Sid, or something.
I'd love to see a Ring of the Hawk episode featuring Don Callis when he wrestled as the Natural for the West Four Wrestling Alliance (WFWA) in Canada in the late 80's and early 90's. The footage might be hard to find though...
I really can't hate the Oddities because I was a bit of a Juggalo back then, but individually only Luna and John Tenta weren't ass in the ring. I really dug their look, though. Kurrgan in particular was an absolute unit.
Truth Commission Kurrgan/Jackyl-era Kurrgan was the inspiration for East German wrestler Baron von Lector (or just LECTOR as is known today). At 6'8", 260 lbs, LECTOR has also been called "Wish Kurrgan" or "We Have Kurrgan at Home" on occasion.
And YES! The tape on the fingers DOES make the grip on the claw more devastating. Source: LECTOR's finisher is the claw, and LECTOR wears tape on his fingers.
I'm so happy Don can show what he can do in AEW. I heard he was not liked at all in WWE. Apparently, The Hardyz went to wrestlers court and their punishment was to trash Don's rental car. I don't want to believe that but if that's true, that's messed up.
I honestly think Kurrigan in the Truth Commission would have worked better had they done the gimmick closer to the end of apartheid and kept The Commandant rather than turning Kurrigan from a commando, to a cultist to a goof.
The big side slam, bearhug, and standing splash were the 3 moves of doom for any big man back in the day. Edit: can't believe I forgot the most devastating move for any big man as every single one used it. The Big Boot.
Say whatever y'all want about kurrgan. His intro theme is an absolute fucking banger also can you imagine a modern day wrestler using a side slam as a finisher?
Kurgan looks like the thing where the head becomes detached from the body and crawls away
And then they threw a t shirt on him to hide his massive neck which was what made him stand out in the first place, aside from his size in general
Nothing says "your career in WWF is over" like being given a dancing gimmick.
Only one it ever worked for was Honky Tonk Man
Scotty 2 Hotty
Rikishi

Hello fellow cult member!
Classic Hawk, unlocking wrestling memories for the masses. That oddities theme was a banger
Big men like Kurrgan and Nathan Jones always seem to fare better as actors than as wrestlers.
His biggest moment in life is when he punched Robert Downey Jr in Sherlock Homes. He actually knocked out RDJ in a fighting scene
so even though he jobbed to him he worked stiff?
@@lewisb85I guess so 😂
The Oddities have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Almost all of their matches sucked, but their entrances were very infectious to me for some reason, crowd always loved them too.
Whoop whoop!
It took 10 matches to take him from monster heel to goofball face... That has to be quicker than anyone
Rhyno in NXT
Good one

Watch it back on the Network without the ICP music it will change everything

No, he wasn't. The whole truth commission was bad.
Nah Bull was good. He just didn’t have a huge personality.
@@Markyd123 Probably could have teamed up with the Big Boss Man, considering B2 would become an IRL cop like him.

True, even though his gimmick was somewhat a ripoff of Raven
@@lordevyl8317 Huh? His gimmick was inspired by David Koresh.
Don Callis with hair will never not be weird to me
Do you mean Cyrus, the TNN network representative?
I'll only ever see him with long hair.
@@ricardonb6375The Network! Says that this a great comment.
The Jackal.
Conversely, Don Callis with no hair will never not be weird to me.
The hawks making regular Monday videos. Getting used to the 3 videos a week
kurrgan looks like a giant EC3
He's his father.
At least he had singles matches, unlike Giant Silva, who only had *TWO* on Super Astros!
A man of culture, I presume? I quite enjoyed Super Astros. Ataca matraca!
Too bad The Oddities and their dancing gimmick wasn't around the same time as Too Cool began theirs. They could have made some kind of semi interesting angle with that.
I think we found EC1 or EC2 today.
Haha
I was just looking to see if anyone but me saw the EC3 similarity... thank god I'm not just imagining it

You phrased this as if Vince was busy at his desk and someone said "sir... You're gonna want to see this. It's Kurrgan, and he's... Well, he's dancing."
Cutting his monster push short to place him in a comic relief stable. Now that's moving up the card and making the big boy money.
Pacific Rim made me notice Kurrgan's unique neck anatomy makes him perfect for wearing body armor with huge shoulder pads. I kinda wish he goes for a role in the Warhammer 40k series as a Space Marine or in a future Fallout episode wearing Power Armor. 😅
It kinda looks like his head was sewn on
Kurrgan's theme scares me to this day and I never watched him growing up because I was born after he left the company.
This was painful but Kurgan as part of the Oddity’s was fun.
He's actually a very nice guy in real life too.
@@JonnyAugz Why wouldn't he be?
@extremeking425 A lot of wrestlers aren't. Especially in those days.
Can you do Jershow?
Love your work markyd, keep it up. 👏🏼 💯
Watching all the way here from the Maldives 🌴🇲🇻
Wanna put me up for a week I need a break it’s been two years 😂
This is my favorite wrestling channel other than my own
Thanks Hater
Oh god his head looks like is about to be ripped off
You must be joking. His head looks like no amount of torque or blunt force trauma could ever rip it off and like it could survive any car accident.
It does sort of look sewn on. I think that’s all the muscle and extra skin. He has a unique look for aure
the reason it cut to black was because of the icp performance
Kurggan like Nathan Jones made a decent career for himself playing the muscle in movies like Sherlock Holmes and Becky.
All of that to just finally lose at the end is hilarious 😂
Fun fact: That second theme he used was later used for the Acolytes when they first teamed with Jackyl managing them.

Imagine your push gets killed because you danced 🤦🏾♂️ but I was a fan of his when they did the Oddities thing
I didn't mind Kurgan for some reason. Not my fav by any means but he was alright
He did job to robert downey jr.
The reason for the quick camera cuts at the beginning and end of Oddities matches are due to ICP playing their theme song.
The FACT this isn't known as the Faction Era is a crime!
Gang Warfare, BRO!!!
This is a lot more fun to watch than the current product.
I love how the background music to these is rum and redbull
The British Roidog first run in WCW
Yes thats good
We need to see James Ellsworth in WWE for ring of the hawk
Bubba Ray Dudley 2002 Raw Singles run
Well, now we need Giant Silva as well
Could be worse... he could be Omas.
Vinnie Mac really loved his “foreign wrestlers hate America” gimmick
To be fair, so did Verne Gagne
Marky you’re legit the best UA-camr ever

Kurrgan could have been the lost member of DX with that pose he kept doing xD
I agree Kurgan probably had the strangest physique of any WWF superstar. But he was clearly a monster.
Mr J.L Jerry Lynn in WCW
I like it
The rhythm of the night is unresistable.
I actually loved that tag team dumb,e match. Outside of just being a unique concept they’ve never used again, I was a big fan of monster gimmicks. So I marked out when the Oddities hit the ring and went straight for Mankind and Kane.
It's good to see an attitude era guy healthy and still working (in tv) nowadays. Rob Maillett is Kurrgans real name btw
I remember when I was a kid. I had a mini figure of everyone from the truth commission. I had no idea who they were, lol.
Is this now a thing Marky D Mondays, I could get used to this!

I didn't think he was around until the 99 Rumble either.
Funny enough, Kurrgan made it to the WWF Attitude roster despite being off TV.
Kurrgan was pretty solid in that Becky movie.
If i remember correctly , it was russo that saw him dance on a party and then the oddities dance gimmick became a thing
