The highest of which is 4X?! LOL! Some poor guy that just spent $5000 on a 1000X Stetson Diamonte is saying “What on earth have I done?”

The big companies are full of baloney. the X's on hats don't mean Jack any longer. I have a vintage hat that is a 4X beaver 🦫 100%. When you touch it you know it. Stands up to the rain and the elements like nobody's business. The only reason some hat's cost 1000 to $5,000 it's because some dummy I mean sucker is willing to pay it. The same reason pickup trucks cost $80,000 because somebody's willing to pay it.

I realize different folks figure hat quality differently but a 4x hat is at the bottom of the scale! I have a 60x and a 100x. Both are extremely good quality! The 100x is a $1,000 hat.

There is no standardized system. A "10x" from one company might not be as good as a "4x" from another. I just wouldn't buy a hat with any "Xs;" the hat is either beaver or not. I bought a vintage one that is.

In my opinion, the vintage lower X hats are very good quality. I don't know about the new hats nowadays. The X amount could be just for retail value.

This video has some misinformation. The Company American Hat Company in Bowie Texas is another company that builds its one crowns by binding felt and the whole process like Stetson and Resistol.
Another piece of misinformation. The X count CAN go as high as 1000x which is pure Mink and a 1000x is around $2,000 dollars. It goes 4x,7x ,10x,15x,20x,50x,100x,200x,500x and 1000x
With a few different variables depending on Company when you reach 100x and around 600 and 700 dollars is when you get away from rabbit mix and get into beaver mix then further more it goes to pure beaver to pure Mink.

American hat company doesn’t make their own hat bodies like Stetson and Resistol, they order already made bodies and make them from there. Unlike Stetson and Resistol.

100x is 100% beaver for some makers but not Resistol, Stetson, and American and others . Resistol made 200x hats that had lower quality sweatband than their 100x but had a nicer buckle set on the trim band at base of crown. X count is not subject to any standard so it means whatever the hat maker wants it to. 75 and more years ago 7x hats were the point where the felt was 100% beaver and 10x was 100% beaver of higher grade. "Clear beaver" also meant 100% beaver. The x count has been eroding for 100 years so hats hats of the early 1900's of 3x quality were extremely fine felt but today that is a wool felt with no rabbit or beaver content.

How in the heck did anyone figure out how to do that 🙄🤔? Sometimes I think a lot of things were invented by people living in insane asylums

100% of our best inventions came from accident or crazy...i think

I was wondering the exact same thing. Where there's a will, there's a way.

If you're interested in knowing they actually figured it out because people would wear their beaver fur coats so long that all the long hairs would fall out and the wooly underfur would be the only fur left that they'd pull out and mix with wool

Is this necessary in the 21st-century?

You got another bright idea? Do you plug your electric car into a tree?

    • @hardluk3

Yes. It’s all natural and a renewable resource. Much better than wearing plastics made from oil. Let’s conserve our oil for heating homes and powering vehicles. Much better for the environment and less impactful than electric vehicles once you figure in the cost/ impact of lithium and how it’s mined.

I live for the day when Panda hats become fashionable. Their fur is luxurious, the meat makes for some absolutely delicious barbecue, and their claws can be made into any number of items…backscratchers, necklaces, or ground into a powder and used as an aphrodisiac.

Washing machines aren't necessary either but you still wash your clothes in one right?
