I was fortunate enough to have owned a 1965 Shelby GT 350. While i totally enjoyed the car I found that it was so powerful that you had to be careful not to get yourself in trouble.
Hi there I'm a 37 model male human , Irish edition . I was of the age when Mr. Shelby was putting the Cobra through it paces . I was amazed at the performance , look & sound I have been a fan all my life as a result . This video is also amazing in content I have been riveted to the iPad . There is just so much tecnology to absorb from body frame engine , steering , suspension & engine . I'm awed. By it all . From this standpoint today I got a look into how this fabulous cars history . Thank you again , you made my day . You can't stop me dreaming either I'll probably kick my wife out of the bed tonight while I relive my day watching your wonderful produced video .
13:58 This show was made back when there weren't all the multitude of patch panels available, like we have today. I remember when it aired on "Speedvision", or "Speed TV" (I think..lol)
She's a beauty, Shelby Mustang's and Mustang's in general all generations, are very desirable for collecting or turning a buck or two, and if you know what you are doing, you can make a living off of them, finding, flipping, restoring, trading, I've done it for years, and I love every about them. it's total Americana.....🤠
I have had one of these for over 40 years. ALL you have to do is get a set of 225 50 15 inch tires and you lower it by 2 inches by getting rid of the Camry tires. You get much better off the line traction
Just curious why the car in the straight line run @53:27 time stamp looks like it tracking sideways is it the way it's filmed or what 😳 🤔 Beautiful restoration love the upgrades
Is the 289 still oversquare at 347 cubic inch? If you stroked it, it might be less racy (by nature) in the RPM department. Don't know if I'm crazy about it, as such.
@@radioguy1620 ; Maybe they bored it to 302, then stroked it to 347. To get it to 347 must be from some standard crank readily available, so probably more than one company. Just guessing here.
Greetings from Colorado, boys! Hail fellows. Well met! What a story. I found you guys in late spring 2023 as I was preparing mentally and chasing the internet through the new Endurance season, what Le Mans' 100th might mean and how the gods were making crazy sounds around WHAT? FerRARI? Anyway. Le Mans, with the Klutt boys who were participating in a new-fangled, first ever soon-to-be-anniversary of beating the heck out of old LeMans cars was cool. But I thought you guys were just ....what...super rich collectors trying to be the Canadian Jay Leno's Garage? I profoundly apologize and offer large compliments for a coupla things. Like what a great family Peter and his two sons who're his business partners and help Peter prove the adage, "Find something to do for work that you absolutely love and you'll never work a day in your life." I could wax prolifically about how I 'get' all the cool things that make Legendary what it is today. But at age 69.5 and having watched Gary and Peter talking about their shared huge passion for cars while actually documenting the incredible FUN the have together today as well as just what Gary and Tom got up to in late/early '00 century area just playing with what the HECK they could do with by putting CARS on this INtranet machine. And talking about cars, building cars and racing cars...And then talking about cars some more-MILLER TIME! Thank you boys. From the bottom of my heart, I offer my profound wish for fair winds and following seas for your friends and families.
What if someone then buys this car and wants it 100% factory original, do you recommend the customer keep the original parts (heads intake etc) .. what would that process be to return it to original if the original parts weren't retained?
Sorry I wasn’t able to edit my other comment.. just was wondering.. since that passenger pillar was hit does that mean the k code didn’t match on that side or did they not replace that panel?
Very nicely done, major bummer on all the brake modifications. The Kelsey Hayes proportioning valves can be sleeved and rebuilt. The dual master doesn't look right under the hood and the rear 10x2.5 brakes are an important Shelby only component. All can be reversed easily though. And I do understand, the customer gets what he wants.
Great looking car and a terrific explanation of all that was done!! I'm very curious about labor costs back in your neck of the woods? Parts cost depend if you're looking for reproduction or NOS but they are fairly easily calculated.
Most early Shelby’s are not concourse practical. Mine was raced for nine years with three years on scca tracks and had several engines in it. They were raced for a business. It took me years to return the car to stock street model let alone even consider going concourse. I drive the car every chance I get and putting concourse on it would make it a trailer queen. I have watched the judges at the Shelby conventions literally destroy a beautiful persons car with markdowns and comments, I guess if you want to do the concourse class you have to expect that. I am happy with mine in showroom condition
Not a fan of rear disc set up on these early cars. The E brakes don't work correctly. Would have done the 11x 2-1/4 inch rear drum set up. Looks more original and works great. JMO. Other wise great job.
They said about 1,000 hours, but that must be from professionals that do this for a living. Definitely a few years for the average weekend warrior on a budget
I noticed that this car doesn't have glass on the rear sail panel was this just for race versions also the side scoops have no air ducts is this race only
If 347 is the way to go, why didn't engineers at Ford take that ball and run with it, to begin with? Why, all of a sudden, do you know more than the engineers at Ford?
The engineers at Ford actually did do that. The 302 (which replaced the 289) is just a stroked 302. As for Shelby American, the builders from the original crew have built some continuation GT351C cars, under the name OVC (Original Venice Crew). The power-plant they ran with? 289 HiPo stroked to 347 ci.
Well done but these cars did not have stripes from Shelby. The cars were white when delivered, the dealers painted the stripes if the buyer wanted them. The stripes themselves did not continue under the windscreen/ back glass rubber, they were also painted over the white, opposite of how it was done here.
Imagine replacing original car parts on a 65 shelby with aftermarket products just because they're new and look perfect. Stupid in my opinion but thats just me.
How many cars from the sixties are still original. At least this car will have another sixty years of life after the restoration. They have removed all of the rust. And protected the body from corrosion. 👌👌👌👌🏴🏴🏴❤️
Guy, your “concours restoration” is far from it…let me judge that car and be amazed all the point deductions you’ll get. I like the remark on the 4 rivets for the ball joints, wanting it to look original, hahaha…you’re building a resto mod type not a concours. Nice car, very nice but stop saying concours. Poor Bill, he’s got the GT500 but you onscreen text it as a GT350.
See my note, I said the same thing. When the F is doing a bunch of new modifications to a previously stock car a "restoration". It's called fixing it up with modifications. That's not restoring. It is just preposterous.
Why do the call them motorbikes. I thought motor was a Latin word meaning to impart motion. Motion means movement. So what part of a motorcar is the motor ???? It seems that you are just being picky over a word that means both forms of movement. 👌👌👌🏴🏴🏴🏴
To start with looks like another classic well hidden schrunched shell out of the box...$$$$$ and for all THAT extreme effort...vs overall improvement$$$$...ahhh I'll pass. Nice project but a restomod and very costly as such cars are now left for high dollar gods of pebble creek...er beach...
Modification does not mean restoration. Restoration means, literally, restoring a car to what it was. You are "fixing up" and doing modifications to a car, not a restoration, and such modifications are certainly not "factory correct details". Jeez.
I was fortunate enough to have owned a 1965 Shelby GT 350. While i totally enjoyed the car I found that it was so powerful that you had to be careful not to get yourself in trouble.

Yup, now you can buy prefab 65 Fastback shells new from Dynacorn for around 18k. Much easier than all that welding.
@@JohnS-il1dr and miss all the fun ? 😉
Gorgeous car. Probably my favorite Mustang.
To say Pete loves his job is an understatement, he sure has a lot of fun!
What an absolutely beautiful car !
These Shelby GTs are so sweet!!! This car is in the right hands for a great restoration!!! 👍👍
Was missing watching the show on TV, glad we found it again!
nice to see a proper cowl repair ,
Fun episode, thanks guys 😎
Yes! That's how it should be done! Beautiful classic Mustang!!
Great to see this old vid again
I love this video. This is almost exactly what I am trying to do with my Shelby tribute
This is an awesome video. So well done and you can feel the pride in craftsmanship! Love these episodes.
Nice Shelby, the 66' is even better in my humble opinion.
Have loved those cars forever. What a treat to see all that tlc put into that car. Great results.
Perfect stance sounds awesome looks awesome 👏

As Always PERFECT ! Thank You Peter
Do a 70 mach 1 restoration with the Cleveland 👌😉
Mega upvotes ! I would put a Cleveland 351 on anything that had a 289 ! Sweet!
Top down real restore.
Great job!
A66 Thunderbolt mustang 1 of Ten made Carol Shelby remember this car.

Fabulous ! Thanks 👍

Best job ever!

Don't know if I'm crazy about it, as such.
also not so sure the parts to do it are not from china, sort of spoils it to me.

Am I allowed to visit and look in your showroom since I am in the area?
What if someone then buys this car and wants it 100% factory original, do you recommend the customer keep the original parts (heads intake etc) .. what would that process be to return it to original if the original parts weren't retained?
What a beaut!!
Hi Peter, will you be using Evans waterless coolant? Looking forward to seeing this restoration step by step.
Mustang’s Rule !

Did you hook up the "e" brake cables, I didn't notice them?
1000 hours? A crossbred concourse perfect street rod? I was born at night, not last night.
Great looking car and a terrific explanation of all that was done!! I'm very curious about labor costs back in your neck of the woods? Parts cost depend if you're looking for reproduction or NOS but they are fairly easily calculated.
This was done some time ago Pete because you look exactly like your son!
Nice!
i have a suggestion can you do a video on the RS200 its my favrotie of ford WRC cars

This is more of a retromod than a restoration. 44:48 oil filter to pan clearance looks bad.
I thought the wheel arches were hand roled at Shelby, so that was original ?
How long did the entire restoration take ?
They said about 1,000 hours, but that must be from professionals that do this for a living. Definitely a few years for the average weekend warrior on a budget
Konis? Great video
I noticed that this car doesn't have glass on the rear sail panel was this just for race versions also the side scoops have no air ducts is this race only
The ‘65 350’s did not have those items.
cool
How much did all this cost? 150k or so?
Why are the quarter vents cut out on a 65 gt 350?
26:10 GT40 motor but needs a GT40. Well, it happens I know where he can get one built from original parts.
Goes to show you there's no such thing as a simple restoration.
There never is!
True mate if it was simple everyone would be doing it
concourse restorations. hell they NEVER came from the factory that nice!
nice
Great video. Until I realized this was produced 20 years ago. Really....

I’ve literally just woken up and I have absolutely no idea of where I am or what was happening, seriously!?
"Jigged to the floor, so it couldn't move". I've had a few Monday mornings, when I've felt like that.
🤨
A detuned race car for the street.
Original video production year ?
My bet is between 1999 and 2004. 😁
Problem with renovations like this is knowing when to stop. Destroying originality, as allways, is vitally important; then it's gone it's gone
The shock absorber brand sounded like "SPACK". Anybody familiar with them? I came up empty! (Great video, though)
Spax

Looked low enough the way it was. Great video tho.
The factory tags are just silly in my opinion.
This build was a modification, not a restoration. It's only original once.
How many cars from the sixties are still original. At least this car will have another sixty years of life after the restoration. They have removed all of the rust. And protected the body from corrosion. 👌👌👌👌🏴🏴🏴❤️

Not concours its BC/CC, not original enamel paint
The door post is pushed in 1.5" and that's a "really nice rust-free car"? And you needed to put it on a frame machine to see that much fuckage?
"Concours restoration" with suspension "tweaks" and 4-wheel disks and an "upgraded" engine with aluminum heads?
ROFLMAO.
get an HD camera
It's not a motor it's a engine Motors are electric
