They must have at one point just gelled completely, seems - but yeah they drifted apart so quickly and drastically! Ever see the “moz steals marrs bike” bit on Portlandia? So good
Of the copious letters that Morrissey wrote to the music papers when he was young, one became unintentionally hilarious: in response to their cover of Bowie's "John I'm Only Dancing" he said that if the Polecats had any imagination, they would shoot themselves. Polecats guitarist Boz Boorer later became Morrissey's longest-running collaborator and musical director.
Dennis, I don't want to resort to hyperbole, but these docs are masterpieces. I have to keep pausing and rewinding them to take in all the fact you present! And you break it up with humor and cool artwork. A real treat for a music history nut like myself.
@@rocdocs Thank YOU. And, since I always leave you with trivia: the song "A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours" isn't about British colonialism, it's about the Irish retaking their land from the Engish.
Same!!!!! Last night I was wstching the cramps doc n I was rewinding n rewatching all night long! I couldn't stay awake n I was driving my bf crazy dropping my phone etc❤😅❤what can I say I'm stubborn i guess
Morrissey and Marr were God's! Rourke and joyce were the greatest rhythm section in modern music💔i still haven't got over the break up, there will NEVER be another band like them 🥰
I kept switching over to relive all the songs listed that I had forgotten or just wanted to hear again. And if there's anything I relearned today, it's just how much I never truly appreciated Andy Rourke's badass basslines.
@@MichaelLuke-w6p Yep, and I'll do you one better. It was Moz's voice fed thru an Eventide harmonizer which pitched his vocal up to sound like the female soul singers of his favorite 50s and 60s songs. Credited on the album as "backing vocals by Ann Coates" which is a cheeky reference to an area of the Smiths hometown of Manchester called Ancoats.
It was a main source, also moz and Marr autobiographies. You are so right- there was a ton that I omitted! Tried to get the main events and interesting bits and include some details about each record. Thanks for watching and commenting !
@@rocdocsI'm getting into the Morrissey albums like Your Arsenal and Bona Drag albums these days. I'll be ordering those cds tomorrow and get the others as well later. Now I'm liking and appreciating those records.
@@audiolego Viva Hate, Your Arsenal, Vauxhall & I and You are the Quarry are all fantastic. Morrissey can be a confusing man but he largely resonated on those works imo.
@@audiolego I also stepped away after the Viva Hate - Interesting Drug period (which I love)! Returning to hear more of his work that I missed really is a joy. I dont love every thing he says but I do still enjoy his music! And of course, the Smiths are a moment of musical magic.
Now I can find out why the 19 yr old bf of my daughter thinks they are the best band ever..as a musician myself i wonder why people like what they like. I just duscovered yhese docus last night and theyre $0ooooooofrickin good!!!! A Morrissey gronted version of the Clash lmao
Enjoyed the documentary! I always thought the smoking woman on the louder than bombs cover was a homeless woman..lol. For whatever reason I always associated her with the song shoplifters of the world unite. I thought being homeless she's probably stealing food for survival..lol
My mum bought me T Rex's first album when I was 3 as I apparently sang Telegram Sam constantly and I begged her to call my younger brother Marc which she did. To know Johnny had the same taste as me makes me feel...fantastic. He's my ultimate guitar hero.
HIHIHI! ... I am a vegetarian too, but I hardly even told my friends! Infact I did all the opposite: with my rock band we used to take the p1ss on vegans ... my point of view was: if you like meat eat it, don't pretend you don't want to! I never liked meat and so I stopped eating it. Simple as that!
Damn, i knew Morrissey was weirdly but firmly gay, on the other hand, i didn't know Johnny was kinda gay too (i know, he had a gf, but some of the words he uses in the book just sound like they were in love).

What amazing in this story is the fact that people who do not consider themselves as friends can make such a good music together.

RIP Andy Rourke🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Haha awesome story!! Thanks Ec!
RIP Andy Rourke
Totally. He was a great bass player and seemed like a nice guy too.
I love that I call Moz a "music singer.' WTF does that even mean. I had to leave it in!
Hahaha.. could be worse...
They get called "Goth" now... Music Singer.
We can agree, less offense..
Great documentary with really nice graphics! Such an amazing band ❤
Thanks Lucy! Check the Robert smith vid!
Best video about the smiths and so in depth. You’ve done your homework Dennis great job!
Tyrell thank you so much! Appreciate you stopping by and the kind comment!

They really are special. When you go back and listen- they were closely aligned with Marr and they were essential to each other
Funky Si lucked out, his main front man turned out to be Mark E. Smith. His drums were perfect when blended with The Fall.
Yes!!
Among my favorite bands!!
Thank you,
Mine too! Thanks for being the first comment and one of the first views!
Are you going to see Moz on tour?
Great stuff. Rock on Dennis:)
Thanks Qibble! Appreciated!
lovely video, you went into an impressive amount of depth here. must have taken a lot of research :)
Thank you!
Great doc, Dennis!!
Thank you kindly, Miss Jane!
The most original band! The best lyrics the best unique sound!
Right on! Thanks gainz for watching
Kirsty Maccoll did not sing on Big Mouth Strikes Again. She sang background vocals on Ask and Golden Lights.
Thank you for the correction.
it was Morrissey himself, Kirsty also Sang on Morrissey's single oujia board😮

I read fletchers book. Quite the tome . With that book as a reference I’m surprised you only kept this to 33 minutes.

Almost! That’s one of the last things mentioned in the video, coincidentally! Thanks for watching and commenting

No reference to the obvious influence of Rockabilly, The Cramps and even goth music. But very good documentary.
