Once got accused of plagiarism. They pulled up the "evidence", which was an article from three years before, from which a sentence apparently perfectly matched a sentence in my work. It was about the same topic and we just so happened to have similar writing styles when explaining a way of economic manipulation.
Nothing else was wrong with my work, just that one sentence used in a similar context, yet they felt the need to waste time, both mine and theirs, by scheduling a meeting to talk down to me like I'm some amateur idiot who couldn't write an original sentence to save their life. They almost insisted on punishing me anyway after I pointed out how ridiculous the accusation was until I threatened to escalate the issue by filing a complaint.
Just a stupid example of people who let the little power they hold go to their head and end up power tripping.
Yo I once got accused of plagiarism because they ran it through a checker so bad that it marked me writing my OWN NAME as plagiarism

@@kine97 No it's even worse, it generates text that looks like it was written by a human, nothing more. No fact checking, no reliable sources. Even asking it for sources for its claims is not enough since it will halucinate normal looking sources out of nowhere
@@kine97 ChatGPT doesn’t actively search the internet as far as I’m aware, but it has been trained on internet data. It basically is a very very complicated machine that predicts “if this sample appeared in a text (online), what word / phrase would come next?” - it’s definitely impressive tech (computers can finally parse natural language like machine code to an extent), but indeed it has no conception of “true” and “false” and understands nothing beyond “what comes next?”. Using it to do assignments where the goal is more than just writing or coding is silly, and even when it’s just writing or coding it’s likely going to give bad results unless strongly guided by the user. Groundbreaking tech? Yes. Panacea? Heck no!
@@kine97 to borrow a phrase from tom scott, there's no algorithm for truth
(and even if there were, it wouldn't be found in a program designed to predict the next symbol in a sequence of symbols)
I asked ChatGPT to explain a famous theory in my field of study to me. It failed to mention many important details and assigned credits to the wrong researcher until I actively prompted it to tell me about the actual theory I wanted it to tell me about. I really hope we'll never get to a point where students fully depend on ChatGPT instead of just opening a textbook
@@kine97 It doesn't even "search the internet". LLMs like ChatGPT are basically giant statistical models that try to predict what the next "right" word should be, both in starting a reply and continuing that reply. It's like a much, much more complex version of the text prediction on your phone.

Imagine reading a phenomenal paragraph from the same student that wrote Unused York City. That is the power of AI.

@PeperonyChease Ship of Theseus is a philosophical question. If you have a ship and gradually replace every part of the ship until no parts of the original ship remain, is it the same ship?

grilled cat sandwich
okay I"m gonna need an explanation for this one
As a culinary enthusiast, I have always prided myself on exploring the diverse spectrum of flavors that the world has to offer. However, when confronted with the notion of a grilled cat sandwich, I found myself grappling with a moral and ethical dilemma unlike any other.
In the realm of gastronomy, innovation often walks hand in hand with controversy. Yet, even in this avant-garde landscape, the idea of consuming feline meat sends shockwaves through the culinary community. My initial reaction was one of repulsion, as the thought of indulging in such a dish seemed unfathomable.
However, as I delved deeper into the hypothetical scenario, I couldn't help but consider the cultural and historical contexts that surround the consumption of various meats. Throughout history, humans have exhibited a remarkable adaptability in their dietary habits, drawing sustenance from a wide array of sources. While certain animals are revered as companions in one culture, they are regarded as delicacies in another.
In this imagined world where the grilled cat sandwich exists, I found myself torn between my visceral aversion and a sense of intellectual curiosity. Would I dare to challenge the boundaries of my culinary comfort zone? Could I set aside preconceived notions and embrace a new culinary experience, however controversial it may be?
Ultimately, I realized that my opinion on the matter was deeply personal and subjective. While I may never find myself partaking in such a dish, I can appreciate the role it plays in sparking dialogue and reflection within the culinary sphere. In a world where food is not only sustenance but also a form of cultural expression, the grilled cat sandwich serves as a provocative reminder of the complexities that lie at the intersection of taste, tradition, and ethics.

I was 10, so that was about as much transformative work I could do, trying to meet the teacher's expectations against plagiarism.
The teacher figured it out anyways, because I couldn't/didn't change several short sentences. And she found the original websites with ease. Figuring out that I copied most, if not all.
She still gave me an A for effort, though. Because my presentation was the best in class, when it came to historical detail, oral presentation, and poster design.
