BRILLIANT Dunna! Keen to see where this will pop up in your workflow! Also love the use of the technical term, '...Smooshed..!!' Interested in your view of their audio devices. Did someone say YELLOW LASERS???? 😆
Great review, Dunna. Lots of great features, and you cover them well. I'm excited about the idea of receiving and switching between two camera signals to the 7" monitor. I hope you can answer a couple questions: 1. The 7" monitor has a pair of 2.4Ghz antennas, but no 5G antenna. Does it still frequency hop? 2. Does the 7" monitor cross convert HDMI to SDI or vice versa? I have occasional need to send to both HDMI and SDI devices, and wonder if one input can send to both outputs. 3. Does the latency change with different modes (smooth vs HD)? 4. Is the focus peaking just color outlines, or does it have a high contrast display mode? 5. I've read that the monitor has some RGB controls for adjusting color. Are there controls for contrast and brightness? 6. How many LUTs can be stored into the 7" monitor? Or, do they have to be loaded one at a time from the SD card?
It possible to set focus point or focus on the subject and control the camera ? Something like trigger a remote record. DJI SDR is doing this with some Sony Alpha models.
I do have a question, I own the Pyro 7 and I have been trying to update the firmware and each time I try, it won't save to the SD card. I tried formatting the card and tried direct connecting the pyro 7 to the computer and nothing.
It would be great to know if its compatible with the mars m1, because then you could run the 7in when youre on a tripod, and the 5in when youre on a gimbal.... And then give the client what evers not on use.
Love it and getting one immediately. However, I wish more companies would use V-Mount instead of NPF. Otherwise, this is a near-perfect alternative to the exorbitantly priced SmallHD/Teradek combos.
One thing that I said in my talking bit but I took out because I wasn’t 100% sure about it is that the battery plate is removable and had pins under it. So you may be able to eventually replace it with other battery plates. Dont quote me on that but it might happen.
@@dunnadidit Oh snap I see that now. Similar look to the SmallHD backs. That would be amazing if they would add a simple V-Mount plate. Sick of charging NPFs - haha.
I found them useful for sure. I haven’t run into any issues with inaccuracies or anything like that. Mostly using peaking and FC so far and they have been fine. I don’t have a lot of experience with small hd to compare to though.
Thanks for this great review! Newbie question - If i were to transmit from the pyro monitor, would I be able to somehow use a receiver with a laptop to review the footage in Premiere?
Great video! Question, I have a specific application I’m considering for the system. Do you know if you’re running 2 or more separate systems if there’s going to be any issues with the signals? I’m thinking of 3 separate wireless systems for an event.
So it can take in 4k30 and its resolution is 1920x1200. Is there a zoom in feature? Is this a 10bit screen? Does it record in 10bit to the SD card as well ?
Correct on the first part. Yes there is a zoom feature. I don’t think it’s a 10 bit screen (but I’m not 100% sure). It doesn’t record 10 bit to the sd card. They’re super small backup style files. Hope that helps!
If you're using this system to transmit video, then pass. We had this one, the video was compressed too much and was unacceptable to use. We then went to teradek ace 750, and it's night and day difference. We did come from the hollyland mars 300 pro. This system needs some work, maybe in a year it'll finally be good. Till now, cough up an extra $500 and get the teradek one
Check out the Hollyland Pyro Series Here → geni.us/hollylandpyr
I love the Holllyland Mars M1 Enhanced. I wish the new 7" Pyro could work as a receiver to the M1 acting as the transmitter.
can those huge antennas be replaced with the capsule-like antennas of the mars m1? if yes, it would be sick!

Haha, you think ai is hot right now… wait until smooshing catches on!
@@dunnadidit I think you need to start a DunnaDictionary! 😆
I love how the system looks, would be super useful for sets & client work

Does it have touch focus for Sony cameras?
are you able to answer if both systems (pyro 7 & s) cross convert ie. hdmi in to pyro 7 sdi out of pyro 7 or s, or vice versa.
can it work with the Mars M1 Enhanced screen transmitting and this Pyro screen receiving?
Why the monitor has dual function as receiver and transmitter. But the Pyro H and S are one function only, transmitter or receiver.
I do have a question, I own the Pyro 7 and I have been trying to update the firmware and each time I try, it won't save to the SD card. I tried formatting the card and tried direct connecting the pyro 7 to the computer and nothing.
Such a capable system! I hope they come out with a compatible 5" monitor! 🔥 Fantastic review Dunna!
That would be cool to see a pyro 5 too. They had it with the mars system.
Great video review! I like it as well.
Cheers!
Nicely reviewed....and in the beautiful redwoods no less.
So does it go monitor to monitor?
Does the usb-c port supply any power out? To be able to power a focus motor.
Great review and looks like a solid system! Outside of the screen, the new DJI SDR system has better range and bitrate though for a similar price.
I think this system is ~60ms latency whereas the DJI SDR is ~35
SDR you have better compatibility with Ronin Gimbals. You can also control some sony cameras
It would be great to know if its compatible with the mars m1, because then you could run the 7in when youre on a tripod, and the 5in when youre on a gimbal.... And then give the client what evers not on use.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like pyro and mars work together.
@@dunnadidit well, that's sucks and is surely a mistake.... But I very much appreciate your reply. Thanks!
Can you use it without antenna? Sometimes devices with antennas will overheat if removed.
I’ve never tried it this way!

Haha I hear you, I’m slowly getting converted to v-mounts too!
Save yourself the hassle. We bought this one and quickly returned it for the teradek one. The video was too much compressed and looked blocky
How are the tools though? Is focus peaking & false color comparable to a small hd monitor
I found them useful for sure. I haven’t run into any issues with inaccuracies or anything like that. Mostly using peaking and FC so far and they have been fine. I don’t have a lot of experience with small hd to compare to though.

Is it working with Mars 4K Transmitter?
Great question! As far as I’m aware, this is not backwards compatible with the mars system.
Great video! Question, I have a specific application I’m considering for the system. Do you know if you’re running 2 or more separate systems if there’s going to be any issues with the signals? I’m thinking of 3 separate wireless systems for an event.
My understanding is that this should be totally fine. The inclusion of the grouping and channel hopping should allow for exactly that!
Does it work with the other Hollyland transmitters?
Just the pyro series as far as I’m aware.
Is the pyro compatible with the mars 1 ?
I had the idea of connecting a mars 1 to the camera and plugging the pyro into the output and connecting it remotely with the pyro 7
Great question! Unfortunately, as far as I’m aware, this is not backwards compatible with the mars system.
@@dunnadidit technically I think it's possible since the mars 1 has an HDMI input and output like the Atomos recorders
