This was Toto's masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. The more you listen - the more awesome it gets. It's beautiful and fantastic. Brian Eno's piece is the icing on the cake. No other soundtrack comes close to this one.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
I worked in the industry when this film came out and remember it's release very well. It was a huge financial risk. It was plagued with delays and problems. By the time the film was released, the buzz was already rotten on it. Audience tests did not go well, many complaining about not understanding the blot. So when it was released, moviegoers were provided with a printed glossary of people, things, and for them to try to learn before the lights go down. Opening night was dismal. The few people that did go were relatively indifferent to it afterwards. For me, I enjoyed it much more a couple years later when an extended version played on TV. I recorded it in Hi fi stereo VHS and watched it every year or so for years. It is probly not so much a badd film, as the material is just too much for the time it was created. Digital effects today would present no problem. But in 1984, it just wasn't possible. Having said that, I'm one of the few who actually liked a few of the worm effects. The better shots are impressive. The weaker ones are KRULL quality.
Just turn the volume up and close your eyes from 09:35 for about 3 minutes and you will understand how they travel through the universe without moving...Amazing soundtracks.
It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.
I really like this movie, especially the extended version I saw not long ago, but I will admit that it has some serious bits of cheesy hokiness that could only come from someone like Dino De Laurentiis (think, for example, "Flash Gordon" or "King Kong"). But, like many of his films (also think "Flash Gordon") it was visually stunning.
I was around that age as well :D Me and my brother use to watch it every time it came on television and every year when the sci-fi station started playing it. We use to always get amped up and say, "FATHER!!! THE SLEEPER HAS AWAKENED!!" LOL
Though I'm not a religious man, at all. I love the movie, and so to this very nice video of the symphonic version, I'm inclined to say "Bless the maker and his water, bless the coming and going of him."
What's even more insane is that while Toto did a beautiful job with the score for Dune, the original band chosen for this project was actually Pink Floyd...now that would have been the most epic Sci-Fi movie to get a high on!
Excellent Cut! While the movie itself was a little off, this music is wonderful. I play this in the background every time I reread Dune (about once a year) and this, looped will make it even better!
12:52 YES!!! Thank you for uploading this!!! I had this track once upon a time but it ended up disappearing off a bad hard drive. I believe it was called something like "Riding the Sandworm" or something. The whole peaceful and fantastical melody leading up to that simple but electrifying guitar riff (or whatever) @13:21-13:52 that makes me feel like my soul is riding on it! Definitely one of the most amazing soundtracks I've ever heard to go with one of the best movies I've ever seen that has never gotten old no matter how many times I've watched it as a child till now. The vast majority of movies I've watched as a child that I thought were awesome are hard to watch now except a few and this is one of the top. I'm about to watch it now since this soundtrack has gotten me amped up! Thanks again!!
A beautiful blend of sci-fi and art. Outstanding set and costume design. My all time favorite after 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. The music in both was fantastic. Worthy of Shakespeare.
Dune is sophisticated, intelligent science fiction. Its soundtrack takes you to a place, a time and an experience of the mind that you want to explore to its farthest possibilities!
Dune Symphonic Suite … well chosen name and properly put together! Love the ‘Paul meets Chani’ part at 09.35 and 16.37 (soft repetition hereof) and your choice for ‘closing/ending’. Kudos and many thanks! 👍🤗😀
Even so the movie can be hard to follow. Personal I just love this movie. But is one of those movies that grew one me. It just got better and better for each time I watched it. But yeah find the right edition of this movie to fully enjoy it.
This has a lot of power. The 80's movie didn't work as a cult. But this, specially after 15:40.... Captures a lot of Dune. This has a lot of power. I cannot stop to listen. How this escaped all my life?
My error was to see the movie before read the book as a kid. The film is for those who read the book. If you do not know melange already, it makes no sense. Seeing again Eons late, it is the best film version of this galactic saga
I'm sticking with this iteration of dune. I know it's flawed, but it grows on you. It's kind of silly to be engaging in melee combat when you have access to range weapons, which is why I liked how lynch dropped the idea, and kept the physical attacks confined to last resort option and dueling. The weirding way just looked silly in the new movie, with people buzzing around all over the place. Plus the body shields were overused in reboot, lynch managed to figure out a way to tone them down convincingly and satisfying.
wouldn't it be great if they made all of the books into a mini-series for television? I mean Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson's additions as well. You're talking 2 1/2 - 3 years of epic storytelling! Reading Butlerian Jihad now.
Sounds so much better than the original - the cheesy electric guitars kept taking me out of the movie. The small background touches are more than enough. Having an overwhelmingly orchestral arrangement strengthens this music enormously!
Dune is not a movie... dune is a state of mind. Traveling without moving. Awakening from sleep, a box of pain. The spice must flow!
a masterpiece..one of the most movie ever seen
Dude

16:12 is probably the most epic music ever in a movie
A begining is a very delicate time...
Loved Virginia Madsen in this movie too…She’s basically the storyteller in the book…
My father introduce me with the book, my sister with this movie. Dune in some sort is a religion for me. Fear is the mind-killer
Have you seen dunewave by akira the don? It's on UA-cam it's an aesthetic synthwave spundtrack with the audiobook
30 years ago and I still love it.
This is my all time favorite movie. I have to watch it at least 2 twice a year.
This Movie is 3 years away from being 40 years old now!
Now Love It ...
Je suis d accord. C est pareil pour moi
Welcome to 40 years later!
Best soundtrack ever.
Awesome movie, awesome soundtrack. Just gets better with time.
I thought you were going to say,"It gets better with ME."
Well said, Gurney.
Jean~Luc Picard ATOMICS!
Jean~Luc Picard You young pup! YOU YOUNG PUP!!!
Gurney Man!
Long live the fighters

So true!!!
It is by the will of "Snafu" Joe Biden is President!
beautiful

Alia Atreides proclaiming her brother Paul as the new Emperor of Dune:" And how can this be? For HE IS THE KWISATZ HADERACH!"

I had read the novel many time before the movie show up, I was a bit disappointed because I had so strong image in my head already.
I love Lynch's Dune ! Especially the Alternative edition redux version !
And btw Krull is a cool movie as well ;)
Have you seen the new one? It's amazing!
Hey man....dont diss KRULL lol
I get chills every damn time I hear this soundtrack. OMG, it's the best.
At 11:00 and for a given extent of that juxtaposed score transition is immensely esoteric and unworldly.
+DetroitLove4U I have to agree there
The 8 people who have disliked this are now spending the rest of their lives in a pain amplifier
Just turn the volume up and close your eyes from 09:35 for about 3 minutes and you will understand how they travel through the universe without moving...Amazing soundtracks.
What's the songs name?
@@glorymanheretosleep I believe it's "Chani's theme".
Glass harmonic?
Paul meets Chani … my fav 🥲
I love Game of Thrones, but IMO the universe of Dune deserve be more popular in pop culture.
Right, when you think about it was the first epic adventure novel.
@@stsolomon618 Well, there’s El Quixote pre-dating Dune by around 400 years...
@@javiceres And the Aeneid is all but a novel

Wow!
I found myself listening to this wonderful suite while looking at some Orthodox religious art. Trippy!!!
9:35 When I fell in love with Chani...Tell me of your homeworld, Usul.
wow, I got goosebumps all over lol
Isn't that the sound you get running a wet finger around the wet rim of a glass of water?
We have just folded space from Ix...Many pugs on Ix. New pugs. Better than those on Richese.
+wilhuf tarken Pug Atreides. We want him killed.
Sting does this movie justice.
I would love to see this movie on the big screen again.
Rick F / just wait my friend
I was watching the since i was 7 AND I STILL LOVE IT
I was around that age as well :D Me and my brother use to watch it every time it came on television and every year when the sci-fi station started playing it. We use to always get amped up and say, "FATHER!!! THE SLEEPER HAS AWAKENED!!" LOL
Brandon Rowe & Johnny Sahn Same here, my dudes. Same here. I was born in '87, btw.
One of my All-Time favorites!

Great Film!

I must have watched this movie over a thousand times.
11:00 - 12:50 I ponder, "What is my fate? What is my destiny?"
They should show the lovely Virginia Madsen, who narrated the first part.
the spice melange.
Way better than the new one

my favourite soundtrack of all time
love the sound around minute 11.
16:40 probably the best part of the score
That crescendo at 16:12! Man, I’d like a track more like that crescendo.
Even so the movie can be hard to follow. Personal I just love this movie. But is one of those movies that grew one me. It just got better and better for each time I watched it.

I didn't know this version existed. Amazing re-viewing of the material.
Yes, glad to hear this!...I think Herbert was on to something in this epic...
Le son est génial ! Un vrai régal !
16:12 "Now they are ready for battle!" *headbangs, throws up the horns*

Dune movie was ahead of its time where the effects were just not ready for the scope it demanded. Here is a remake worth doing!
they are doing! Denis Villenueve, director of Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 is making a new Dune movie.
Got the remake , total trash thanks HBO.....

Oh yeah; been there, DUNE that!
Hans Zimmer is having a nightmare :)))) The new version is definitely the mind killer :)))
Spoo god eventuell Best sountrack thnaks Toto

Thanks for uploading mate.
I need the new Dune movie now.
wow love this :)
This is why people go to the movies!
12:51 favorite part
Thank you, czpunk :)
I stilll don't understand how Toto was able to do that . . .
I ear it was a film project of Alejandro Jodorowsky & HRGiger.
Virginia Madsen looked totally hot in the opening of this film :)
If I recall correctly, this was her first movie (at least first mainstream movie)
She is still pretty damn hot! She is aging very well...
Right you are, but I'd still rather share my water with Sean Young.
That is an interesting sentiment
poor Manion
Magnífica trilha sonora.
This movie thought me how all gingers are evil harkonnens
Movie since i was 7
the spice melange
Still the best Dune movie, if you want to watch another interpretation go watch the series, avoid the new blackened one
16:12 goes so hard. I wish the electric guitar was a bit louder though
You have to read the books to understand, i watched this movie as a kid, i didn't understand until i read...its be nice for sequel or remake
when paul meets chani.
divine1111!!!!!!!!!!
Spicy

11:00-12:50
Literally cannot wait for Denis Villeneuve's remake !!
Lets just see.
Where have you been all my life?
so much better than the trumpet farts of the new one by hans zimmer.
I would agree..This old Dune score is Epic
Read the books. There is a LOT in the book that is just hard to translate into a screen production.
