Agreed but just wish they would have at least shipped with the correct channel order and maybe a few decent templates e.g. full house crawler, speed run,race/drift car etc. I have mine set up with throttle cut (with LED indication) throttle to steering mix which lowers steering throws the more is applied and I will set up EXPO on a rotary knob. The last two will mainly be used for carpet racing my GT12 and M-07
A few guys at our track have bought the FS Noble and like them a lot, specifically the left handed racers because you can flip the wheel so easily to left hand driver.
guys, check out the radiomaster mt12. it uses elrs, but has the option for a second txc-module (called "4in1") which is compatible to common other receivers like futaba etc. also it has also it runs with the opentx-successor edge-tx, which also means it is programmable via pc. the standard transmitter (incl. accessories and an rx) comes for about 130 to 150. i have just replaced my trusty futaba 4pl with it and it's absolutely worth it.
Hi ukmitch, if that was aimed at me I don't have any experience of the MT-12, but like others on here have heard some great reviews and the guy who runs the local RC shop uses Radio master for his Heli's , so can't be that latent, why what have you heard
@@ukmitch86 haven't raced it yet and can't objectively measure it, but on the bench it is at least equal to t-fhss and that was with the default settings. have yet to tinker with the in-depth configs - if you can sacrifice distance (elrs is specced to over 30km at 250hz) you can increase the packet rate (thus decreasing latency). in short i'd say with elrs the limiting factors will be my servos and my own reaction time.
I started with DX3R and didn't know you could convert it to a lefty, once I switched over it was magic. Because most muscle mempry and reaction had built up through gaming pads with the steering on the left side. Now that conversion option is the one of must haves when getting a radio. Good work lads!
I just bought a Tamiya truck thanks to your videos and I've loved everything about it. The idea of full scale racing freight trucks is hilarious and the RC versions are just as much of a laugh! I am returning to the hobby after 30years and I don't need serious competition... I need FUN! I found the Sanwa MTR on sale and picked that up bc I liked the feel of the nob 😂. Almost everyone at the local track used the Flysky nb4 but I didn't like how heavy it was. P.s. the intro music reminds me of an old tv commercial 😂
Well done popalong good video like always. And I hope you get to 10,000 subscribers quick because with the pace your going at I’m pretty confident you will
I've a pair of Flysky iT3B kits for my and my son's tt02 cars (the newer, improved version of the popular GT3B) and they are fantastic. Full function, ticks all the boxes, updatable firmware, and cheap and available everywhere. The new A3 receivers are also really good. No issues whatsoever. Once you learn and are comfortable with the digital dial based interface, it is just great. Usually in the 50-80 dollar range at the usual stores. for flying and quadcopters: FrSky Taranis 9d. Brilliant openTX radio set. cheers.
I started up again with the Futaba and it’s my goto for speedrunning but the receivers are to expensive. I love the Radiolink but find it fussy, to many switches and knobs but my favourite general purpose radio. I have the Radiomaster Mt12 to try if I ever learn how to program it. But the dream Radio I can’t justify, the Futaba 10px 😂
While Sanwa rightfully enjoys a stellar reputation with racers, I'd exclude their current lowest tier radio, the MX-6 from that. Because a) there's no upgrade path available (the receiver won't work with any other Sanwa radio or vice versa) and b) there are far too many people really having experienced problems with these (great if you haven't yet, but that does not mean others did not have trouble). The previous low-tier radio (the MX-5) didn't have these problems, by the way, but also lacked an upgrade path. Problem is, all other Sanwa radios are quite a bit more expensive and many people shy away from that.
@@PopalongRC Not sure I agree 100%. Spektrum used to have brownout issues with certain power-hungry servos, so their radios kind of fell out of use in my area. Especially for racing, a good radio is among the most important bits of kit and my advice is to never skimp on that end. My recommendation would be more among the lines of Sanwa (non-MX-6), Futaba or Flysky Noble (Pro) - at least for people who do not drop them.😇
Hi guys, I have been using the FlySky NB4 for around 6 months now. My initial motivating factor is that the radio can be switched from right handed to left handed easily. Besides that L/R feature... the rest of the system is working great for me.
That Rlaarlo set looked really good for the money, superb value. I use the Flysky Noble NB4 set, it's around £200 but you do get 2 receivers, one of which is tiny and has no aerial wire. It's all digital, nice colour touch screen, and has been so reliable I wouldn't use anything else. Fair enough, some more expensive sets might have slightly better latency, but it suits me fine. Also, it can be used left or right handed with zero modification, the wheel itself just pivots round.
Practiced with a Flysky GT5 and now race with a noble NB4, GT5 was fine but the NB4 is superb for the money. Not tried anything else but don't think I'll move away from the Noble for a long time!
I got that Rlaarlo. Its actualy amasing. You can setup the trigger, the range os fantastic also. And its comfy in the hand. Used it for bashing but think i will put it in mu racing car as well
For me I like the rugged it feels good and I like the orange colour. Here in KL Malaysia for a rugged dx5 and a 5ch reciever it's 980RM or 165GBP so a good price. Though I do want to try the new Radiomaster M12 maybe for some longe range or road racing I'm looking at getting in to that your inspiring me.
The Futaba is super light which is NICE imo. I run the 4pv and have had it for 6-7 years. Got my son the 3pv and I considered switching because its so small and light. Do you all wear a lanyard with your radio? Sounds like Carl might need one so he doesn't drop it 🤣.
flysky nb4 noble is my radio of choice, make sure you set it to 1 way though instead of 2 way with telemetry otherwise itll feel a tad slow. Once that is done its perfect IMO
The rlaarlo is also the only transmitter i can find that has a training mode. This sounds like a gimmick but i have a son with a severe learning difficulty who loves rc cars. This normally severely limits where we can run our cars due to safety. The training "buddy box" set up that this has opens up a whole new world for us. If there are others im yet to find them.

I'm new to all this so can't speak from experience as I'm waiting for hop-up's before my first build, but I have already purchased the Radiomaster MT12, 155 euro, $250 of our NZD. If this is half what they say it is, it's great value for money. Can't drive one handed, but other than that, can it be beat for features, range or cost? Serious bit of kit for reasonable money, saw a Radiolink with less features (although a colour screen) and over twice the price. Keep up the good work guys, I look forward to the New Year.
Always liked Sanwa stuff back in the good old days of crystals and sticks. Have a modern flysky and it's good but it's not great. Looking to buy a new stick set soon and I'm open to suggestions
Yer , I ordered that Raalaroolloo radio last week with 3 , 8 channel receivers.....free delivery all in with the extra Christmas discount it was less than £50 !! After seeing the previous video you guys did with it, I thought I'd try it out. I've just got into 1/12 carpet racing and my fly sky needs upgrading......plus Santa only bloody sorted me out with a fastrax mega hauler 🎉🎉 I'm going to look the dogs dangles January😅
Received the radio boys but it doesn't work 😂😂 won't stay on , screen flashes up , beeps and vibrates but just randomly turns on and off. I have contacted them to see if they will replace it. Shame as I wanted to race it on Monday night! By the way....when I get a replacement...any idea how to turn off the beeping and vibration when you turn it on? Really annoying.
I take my transmitter to the harvester 😂. That rlaarlo radio looks great and really cheap hope it works well and that would make a great spare. I used to use the Flysky gtb and that was ok and really cheap. Now use the sanwa mt-s and it’s an awesome bit of kit for racing.
I also treat my Transmitters to a nice Carvery each Sunday .As a single father of at least 12 transmitters,i can, and do find it hard to feed and keep em in batterries, lol.✌️
Merry Christmas 🎄 🍺😂👍🏽 I’m with you on that weird button thing on the DX5 Rugged the DX5C with it’s scrolling wheel is a way better interface and why I chose it for my crawlers, price being the other. Dropping it is always a concern too. I recently got a Futaba 4PM Plus specifically for my Mini Z’s haven’t had it out yet but so far the interface seems like it’s gonna take getting used to (weird button thing again) I still prefer the combo button/scrolling wheel of my Sanwa MT44 & DX5C better yet an actual touchscreen like on the Fly Sky Noble which was the runner up but the Futaba just felt better in my hands and that was a major part of the buying decision since this is a race radio so unlike my DX5C which is just ok and took me modified the grip and steering wheel so it doesn’t feel so cheap and toy-ish to get there.
I raced back in the 27 and 40MHz days. What was great back then was the ability to mix and match. Kept some of the prices sensible. I ran a Futaba TX with HiTec RX on 40MHz and had no issues. Then I shifted to using a Spectrum module in my Futaba TX (3VC) which still works to this day. There were competing module manufacturers again keeping costs competitive Such a shame now that many of the systems are vendor locked. Would be great if they worked out an open standard for 2.4GHz - unless this is already a thing?
Best value flysky NB4 and buy a lot flysky receivers(very affordable) for most of your cars, next will be Sanwa MT5 (or used mt44) but expensive receiver. Futaba 4pm or higher model still good but expensive.
I am a huge fan of the RadioLink radios. I do not race (yet) so response time is not a problem for me...not that I have noticed any latency to be honest. I also have a Spektrum DX5C but I was put off by the cost of the receivers. $60CDN vs $25CDN for a Radiolink with more channels and gyro.
Hi, I’m looking to get back into rc racing which I haven’t done for 20 years. Thing is though for people such as myself who find it hard using a wheel and prefer using a stick. Do you have recommendations on which stick transmitters to go for?
I think one of the most over looked radios is Radiolink I have been using a 4gs v3 for over a year now for racing, bashing, and speed running and it has never had a single issue.
Subbed.. just bought a ct8a and am new to rc.. you useing it at a race and a vid on how the controller handles would be great guys pls do it ... there's only like 6 vids on YT about this transmitter and ZERO in use.... soo... DO IT!
If you are going to stick with the hobby having a nice radio does make a difference however some people prefer to stick with cheaper radios as they don’t use all the features in the expensive ones We tend to upgrade all our radios
My CT8A was faulty I believe others have had the same problem Rlaarlo support? “Batteries are too high voltage discharge them a little” this is 4 standard AA’s 🙄
I bought the RLAARLO CT-8A transmitter to use with my AK787, but it won’t bind to the 787 receiver. Also, you can’t connect the 787’s light system to this transmitter, using the included receiver. Lastly (and most frustrating) when you connect the rear wing servo, if you don’t set the end points straight away, when you activate the servo to move the wing, it doesn’t stop and the servo gears strip. RLAARLO has replaced this servo free of charge, which was nice of them. However, for $39 US you really can’t complain, can you 🤷🏾♂️
I find that reciever price can be a factor if you have a few cars. Once you own a lot of one brand of recivers it can be daunting to change brand. Unfortunately for me I bought in to KO-Propo. I love the radio, but it's not cheap to get the higher end receivers and the radio is a little top heavy
I love my Futabas, because they are very very fast! T10px (potless) is the best! I made a slow motion video between the Futaba T10px T4px an the Radiolink RC8X. You always get what you payed for...😉
I have a DX4R, I've had it for a few years, hard to find now though and pricey. It's a good controller, can't really fault it, has about 35-40-ish preset slots, and the receivers can be had cheap (China knock offs). I also use a couple FlySky GT3's. They are ok, and for the price, great for those beginning in the hobby and for people coming back. Rx's a cheap too. It seems you two have gone from Smith and Jones into Carry On territory. Or maybe Derek and Clive. That Tx gives me the orrrn.
I’ve been buying stuff from Rochester RC. Great service. But the discount code can only be used a limited number of times, did you know? So once you used it a couple of times it doesn’t work anymore 😢
Yes I have bought a number of things from Rochester RC using various UA-cam reviewers discount codes. It only allowed me to use the discount code 2 times from each reviewers code.@@PopalongRC
What I want to know is why 2 old geezers from the Uk are using those new fangled wheel type American controllers. I thought you would have grown up on acoms techniplus like the rest of us!?. I’ll never give up my Futaba 7xc . Once you go colour touchscreen you never go back!
When we got some badgers they all come with wheels and the time spent playing meant the transition was easy and the bash style driving allows valuable stick time to develop skills
My Rc8X performs slow and sluggish, battery drain so fast, radiolink look great and with tones of features, for me it’s way to slow, even with the newest firmware (NOV 2023) and 2.1 receivers.
@@SkonkBot absolutely, newest nov 2023 firmware for the transmitter RC8X max resolution FHSS-2 protocol and current 2.1 version R8FG receiver, set to 3ms, still slow and sluggish compared to to NB4 set stock 2way communication (not even set to fastest 1 way) and to old sanwa MT44 with FHSS-4 protocol (newest version with FHSS-5 already).
The radioMaster Mt12 with multi protocol looks like a game changer for the rtr guys, no need to buy additional receivers
Good to know, will look into it

flysky receiver is about us$8.00 if you needed. I binded almost 40 models but still some models do it later.
Flysky NB4. I use it for everything from crawling to open mod TC racing. An absolute beast for the price.
Yup, been running one before people were paid to do so, paid 150€ shipped from Hobbyking, came with two receivers, best purchase yet.

Lastly (and most frustrating) when you connect the rear wing servo, if you don’t set the end points straight away, when you activate the servo to move the wing, it doesn’t stop and the servo gears strip. RLAARLO has replaced this servo free of charge, which was nice of them. However, for $39 US you really can’t complain, can you 🤷🏾♂️
I'd like see that radio used,I'm interested
Link in video description to the truck race
I find that reciever price can be a factor if you have a few cars.
Once you own a lot of one brand of recivers it can be daunting to change brand.
Unfortunately for me I bought in to KO-Propo. I love the radio, but it's not cheap to get the higher end receivers and the radio is a little top heavy
And I’ve just ordered the rlaalo …👍👍
Great value radio
29 year in retirement, my last was a KO ProPo esprit 2 was the bollocks
Nice
I like the flysky gt5 6 channel radio
Smith and jones derek and Clive hale and pace … alll complements
I’ve been buying stuff from Rochester RC. Great service. But the discount code can only be used a limited number of times, did you know? So once you used it a couple of times it doesn’t work anymore 😢
Not aware of that
Yes I have bought a number of things from Rochester RC using various UA-cam reviewers discount codes.
I own Sanwa mt5 Ideal for nitro 1/8th buggy, but each to their own
Awesome video ✌️💯
Cheers guys
Loving the shoe box on wheels - we need more fun..
..much like watching the wish version of Smith and Jones lol
Keep it up 👍
I'm just buying another RX that bind to my RTR WLtoys TX 😁😁
One you gave a radio you like this is a good shout
Futaba 4GRS - because stick radios are the best and you can't get a Sanwa or KO stick radio for love nor money in the UK these days
What happened to the radiolink rc8x you had a while back?
My Rc8X performs slow and sluggish, battery drain so fast, radiolink look great and with tones of features, for me it’s way to slow, even with the newest firmware (NOV 2023) and 2.1 receivers.
Not using it for racing as it did not feel right and seemed slow on track … fantastic for crawling
Did you both set the receiver settings to 3ms?
@@SkonkBot absolutely, newest nov 2023 firmware for the transmitter RC8X max resolution FHSS-2 protocol and current 2.1 version R8FG receiver, set to 3ms, still slow and sluggish compared to to NB4 set stock 2way communication (not even set to fastest 1 way) and to old sanwa MT44 with FHSS-4 protocol (newest version with FHSS-5 already).
A question. Where do you get the repeaters from ?
ELRS is coming 🚀
FPV3 for the money and performance 💪😎💯
good shout
Do you guys ever use stick?
Yeah but all of our RTR cars have wheel so it seemed good sense to switch👍
Racing with a raalrloo radio with gyro will get that "JQ" comment "must be the gyro"
Cant see how that is legal radio to use in racing.
I binned off the missus and bought a sanwa mt44..much more fun than she was.
Hahaha
radiomaster mt12 for the win.
Futaba t4pm. All day
Good to know
noble nb4
We need to check these out
@@PopalongRC make sure you put it on 2 channel and 1 way (no telemetry)
Agreed ☝🏼, awesome valued radio
Radiomaster for sticks and ct8a by rlaarlo for wheel the ct8a has too many features for its price rlaarlo did a good job with it
That is what first impression suggest
Any links ?
