That forward view of the flared elbow he showed is exactly what I've been doing, and I never realized it. I do lock into my lat, but I see exactly how suboptimal my movements have been.
Thank you for the correction, Mike.

These tweaks make such a difference. Probably basic to many, but I struggle connecting to my tris and what a difference. Many thanks!

Always giving those little tips that make the connection and targeting specific muscles so much easier.
I did arms yesterday and can’t wait for them to recover to use these new cadences for the workout now.
The flaring lat and where to pin shoulders for a proper tricep push down has always been a struggle.
Thank you for these videos and your advice Mike.

Thank you, Mike, for sharing your experience with us. Since I found your channel 1.5 years ago, my training has improved by at least 100%, and I am connecting and growing. Greetings from Germany!

The idea that helped me was remembing the function of the tricep is pulling not pushing

    • @bevnae

Interesting point, thanks. Are you referring to the negative (eccentric) portion of the lift where you are effectively slowly pulling the bar back up?

    • @imperator9621
      @imperator9621 3 місяці тому +1

I think he means that the function of the triceps is to pull the forearm to the straight position.

Let’s also keep in mind you can do overhead, single hand, and also reverse grip triceps pull downs/push downs. There’s so many variations and most of the people you see performing the motion poorly are most likely just doing too much weight. Good info and tips though!

I've always done the rounded back thing, but didnt realise just how much i was trying to keep the bar close to me all the way through the press. Rather than pressing away/down i was basically pulling into my hip and it felt like sh-t, much like what Mike was doing at 12:45. Modifying it feels way better after just 2 sessions.

  • @kronkite1530

Despite ruined (stiff; dangerously insecure lower back) and cramp-worthy hamstrings as a result, that position is what instinctively I’ve used for years. Otherwise I get pain in my shoulder? If the bar gets too far from my body.
Rope or handle, Pushdowns are probably the most sickeningly painful exercise I’ve learned to have to fight through, the contraction is so intense. As a result(?) my triceps grew faster than anything, even biceps.
I also get a great feeling from the short bar version that looks more like a close grip press - the way Levrone & Wheeler used to do even though some ‘influencers’ say it doesn’t work, particularly as a finisher. Really gets the horseshoe area in fire.

It’s difficult to like myself, I try…. but I dislike how skinny I am sometimes. It’s weird how we humans are. Apparently Mike Tyson said he hated how short his arms are. Everyone has insecurities, I guess it’s normal. The pattern is always wanting to be what you aren’t. I guess it’s the “grass is always greener on the other side” mentality. A person can never be happy with that kind of mentality. The double edge sword is that one needs this kind of mentality of disliking oneself (a little bit), otherwise there is no reason to push oneself beyond limitations. That being said, I need better triceps haha.

I Think this is a need to have, but at the same time you have to appreciate that you are growing and you look better then when you started, so basically just appreciate progress and having that mentality will make you push further to make yourself look better

Any advice for a guy that work a hard labor job when it comes to recovery. I often wonder how to balance that. My step count at work is at 15k a day with a lot of lifting and moving heavy stuff. Hard to feel like I recover at all working 6 10-14 hour days per week.

disagree on the last bit, if you are done with your workout GTFO, Gym is not a hangout, by crowding it you are being disrespectful to other members who are just coming in, you just had your workout, so dont crowd the place and prevent others from working out. i see this shit all time, just groups of ppl hanging around machines talking for hours.
