👏 I love vintage cookbooks 👏
Me too! So many great tips and recipes!
Roasting the green pepper first would probably be nice, along with some cabbage.
Thank you!! Those are great suggestions! I needed more reasons to use cabbage anyway 😃
I bet the chickpea recipe was trying to have a middle Eastern bent on it. Maybe instead of doing bell peppers and onions do cucumber, tomato and red onion with chickpeas, and then I would do sesame oil for flavor cumin, dill, or you could do curry powder in the Greek yogurt sauce. It's up to you and your family what you like. Also put lemon juice in with the Greek yogurt. I make my own tzatziki sauce which is similar and is out of this world with Greek yogurt olive oil, dill, garlic powder, salt and shredded cucumber with the excess water squeezed out, and lemon juice.
I agree with you! I would find it much more refreshing and delicious with cucumber, tomato, and red onion! That’s an amazing combination! I’ll have to try your tzatziki recipe! It sounds yummy!
The frist meal is called "Züricher Geschnetzeltes" in Europe, very popular in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Often comes with "Rösti"hash browns as side.
Yum!! I had something like that in Germany (I don’t remember what it was called 😅) and I fell in love! I bet it’s the dish you’re referring to. So delicious!
I think the chili sauce called for in the fish recipe is like Heinz chili sauce, sold near the ketchup. It is a little tangy, much like cocktail sauce. I think your use of Asian chili sauce was brilliant. We are trying to eat more fish, I will certainly give that recipe a try.
I really like the frozen bags of broccoli that Aldi sells. Very reasonable and nice spears of broccoli instead of chopped up mush.
Fun video!
I think you’re absolutely right. I hadn’t heard of that chili sauce until recently and I bet that’s what they were referring to. The Asian chili sauce was absolutely incredible though! I hope you love it when you try it too!
And I completely agree with you about the broccoli! The broccoli in this video is ALDI frozen broccoli 😄 it’s the best!
Love this type of content! 🙂
Thank you so much! ☺️ I’m so glad to hear that!
Thanks for sharing these came together so quickly. I will be trying the fish and the first one. While I love onions and green peppers that salad would overdo it for me too.
I hope you love the ones you try too! I agree with you! The bell pepper and onion dish was too much 😬
I used to make a mushroom soup that called for sherry and it was delish. I wish I still had the recipe. If you can get a little bottle of sherry, I say it’s worth it. It pairs sooo well with mushrooms.
I had no idea! I’ve never had sherry on hand but now I’ll have to grab a bottle to try it out! Thank you so much for sharing that ☺️ I can’t wait to try it!
I have this cookbook! The oven bbq chicken is simple but really good with the homemade bbq sauce 😊
Oooh yum!! Thank you for the recommendation! I’ll try that!
GOOD AFTERNOON! Would love to see you do some vintage freezer meals.
Good afternoon! That’s a wonderful idea! I’ll work on that ☺️ thank you for the suggestion!
I like the sounds of the chicken dish sounds a little like what I use to make chicken pieces in white wine sauce and I have served over rice and also noodles
It was delicious!
I have that cookbook. Interesting to read some of the recipes and maybe try some. Thanks for the video.
You’re welcome! I’m super excited to try more of the recipes! I’m loving the 30-minute or less meals so far. The tips in the front of the book are great too!
Very interesting!
Thank you bunches!
You’re welcome! ☺️
I like collecting vintage cookbooks and I just received the same as yours!!! I can’t wait to try some recipes!
Yay!! I can’t wait to hear what you try and which recipes turned out great!
We love the chinese noodle dish. So very good and easy.
It was tasty! I’ll definitely be making it again 😋
I'm definitely going to make the fish recipe can't wait
Yay! Definitely let me know what you think when you try it! 😋
I like to sauté the onion with the chicken and later add the mushrooms because i don't like my mushroom mushy
I LOVE that! I feel the same way about the mushrooms. I prefer them to have a bite still 😄
If you eat with your eyes, this might not be the cookbook for you. I was uninspired (from the food, not your presentation) then read recession proof and thought yeap, I know these. What a twist from your usual. Glad you didn’t pick jello salad in a mold🤣😂🤣. Good job❣
Haha! Thank you 😅 I’m excited to find some recipes that I can make my own in this book! Lots of fun ideas!
Organic red meat the hamburger sold at Aldi is so so good for you. Grass fed has a b vitamin other meats don't have. Don't turn away hamburger meat lol. Ty for the video.
They have an amazing meat selection! You’re welcome ☺️ Thank you so much for watching!
@@LauraLegge yw I love watching you ! You remind me of Julia what's her name lol.
@@crystaldon4995 oh my goodness, thank you! ☺️ That’s so nice of you to say!
here in town we have Tom's bookstore and in Stockton we have the friends of the Library bookstore that always has a ton of cookbooks and my daughter just went to a book sale that it was $5.00 for a full bag of books you picked out
Wow! That’s a great deal!
The chickpea salad does not sound good at all lol Maybe if the bell pepper and onion were sautéed first? But I like to make chickpea salad in place of chicken salad or tuna salad. So maybe that’s a chickpea idea for you. Basically just sub in the chickpeas for meat. You can mash them totally, leave chunky or , leave whole. I prefer totally mashed. I usually add all the ingredients together and blend with my hand blender. I also like to skin the chickpeas, but that’s totally personal preference, bc it take a minute….or 20 to do 🤣 Roasted/crispy chickpeas would be delish with the peanut noodles, along with roasted sweet potatoes, roasted mushrooms and roasted carrots 😋 I used to roast up all that and other veggies, make a peanut dressing and keep it in the fridge to make Buddha bowls. Sometimes serving with rice, noodles or lettuce or none of that and just toss together. Super yummy! Roasted red cabbage is delicious with that as well.
Thank you! I think you’re right that the chickpea salad may have been similar to a chicken or tuna salad. I bet it would actually be tasty on bread with a few extra ingredients added in.
I’ll have to try those crispy chickpeas in the peanut noodles! That sounds perfect!!
I think store bought onions and peppers have gotten larger, so maybe for the older recipes only use half the onion or pepper if it's raw.
That makes sense! I hadn’t thought of that!
If you thaw fish out in the plastic packaging rather than "open air," it can cause botulism. Eek! -Kryste
I think maybe if you grate the onion and use red bell pepper but I saw some of suggest the cucumber and tomatoes that would work too you can put some cucumber in there and just kind of jazz it up a little bit more
Those are great suggestions! I agree, I think the cucumber would make a big difference. It just needs something sweet to balance out all the intense flavors from the onion and bell pepper. And I definitely think you’re right about the red bell pepper too - so much better raw than green.
@@LauraLegge I don't remember was there lemon juice in the sauce cuz maybe that might help pipe it up too
I would have used red onion rather than white - less bold onion flavour. And I like the suggestion of using maybe a combo of green, red and yellow peppers.
@@trishwebb4024 I agree with you!
15 to 20 minutes of these 30 minute meals are ( doing the prep work). Do this prep right after you bring home your groceries to breeze through ...your dinners❤😊
Yes!! Exactly! These would all be crazy fast if the prep was done ahead of time

I agree with you!
CROCK POT CARAMELIZED ONIONS
INGREDIENTS I usually double this so I can have caramelized onion for other things
3lbs sliced onions
1⁄2 cup melted margarine (or butter)
1 teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS
Combine onions, margarine and salt in a crock pot.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours. I usually do this over night to use the next day or so. I usually double or Trible this recipe and slow cook it overnight so I will have it the next day.
MAIN DISH
PHILLY BUGERS with Caramelized onions
Serves: 4 Prep time: 20-30 minutes Cook time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
1 lb. ground beef 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, divided 4 Kaiser Rolls
4 teaspoons Dijon Mustard, divided
1 cup caramelized onions Onions, divided
1 package (3 oz.) cream cheese
2 cup shredded cheese of your choice
1 jar sliced mushrooms, drained
Directions
Combine ground beef, 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce, 3 teaspoons mustard and half of the caramelized onions.
Form into 4 patties and broil or grill to desire doneness.
Meanwhile, in small bowl, blend cream cheese, shredded cheese, remaining Worcestershire sauce
and mustard, mushrooms and parsley.
Spread the cheese mixture on cooked patties, top with reserved onions.
Broil or grill 30 seconds more or until the onion are golden.
Serve on Kaiser rolls
CROCKPOT FRENCH ONION SOUP
You'll Need
3 pounds yellow onions, peeled, cut in half and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or more to taste
2 sprigs fresh thyme
¼ cup balsamic vinegar
8 cups (2 32-ounce cartons) beef broth
⅓ cup brandy, optional but recommended
4 to 6 baguette slices, toasted (1 slice per bowl)
1 ⅓ to 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese (⅓ cup per bowl)
How To
Put the onion slices in a 5-quart (or larger) slow cooker, along with the butter, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. you can put as much onions as your crock pot/slow cooker will hold because they cook down and then divide for recipes! Cover the crockpot and cook on low overnight, or for 10-12 hours. The onions should be dark golden brown and soft. Add the beef broth, balsamic vinegar, and fresh thyme. Cover and continue cooking on low for 6 to 8 hours. Season to taste with additional salt and pepper, if desired, and stir in the brandy, if using. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius). In evenly-portioned amounts, ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls. Place the bowls on a baking sheet to catch any spills while in the oven. Top each bowl with a baguette slice and the shredded Gruyere. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted. Turn the oven to broil and brown the tops for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and browned. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before enjoying!
I usually just do a baking sheet full of sliced French bread with garlic butter and any cheese on them that we have since we usually eat 2 or 3 slices when eating one or 2 bowls of French Onion soup. I do not bother with the broiler because I don't like my bread crusty or hard
Oh, this soup looks SO good, don't you agree? We love having it do all the work while we take care of other things on our to-do lists. Have you ever made French onion soup in the slow cooker before? Do you have any tricks of your own for making the classic dish at home?
Yum! Thank you so much for sharing!
This one sounds so delicious too! Thank you!
Dont skip the mushrooms!!!
I definitely wouldn’t because I LOVE them but I know some people just can’t stand them haha
I would think that that salad would be better with a coiple cups of cabbage.
Ooh yum! I was just talking to my husband today about adding more cabbage into my meals. Thank you for the suggestion!
@LauraLegge
Try a quiche with cabbage. I watched a lady from youtube always put cabbage with her eggs. I love it that way now.
@@samanthadodd8112 ok! Thank you so much for the suggestion! I can’t wait to try that 😋
