Other variable is car mass, if you lighter some weight from your slotcar. This allows to use higher gear ratio without harm car's previous accelerate behavior. Cheers!

There are apps for your phone available that do a good job if you just want to time your car. Carrera makes one that will work on most 2 lane tracks.
