That's a shame. They released so many great movie titles for blueray, and now they're not even releasing physical media themselves? This is why you should support physical media. You never know when it's going to be gone, and everything will be stuck on an unstable streaming service or not available at all.
True and sailing the high seas 🏴☠️☠️ to get it for yourself
Dave is the person that made me realize this about 7 years ago. He used to mention it in his old videos. I can't thank him enough for the heads up🐒
It would be a shame but honestly Disney Blu-rays are not that great . Like the change up the movie by editing scenes out they have gotten rid of the classic logo
The disney movies are incredible on blu-ray!
@@mayracordero382 I hate to break it to you but they really aren't if you were to own the DVD versions you would honestly have a better time with them because they've changed some stuff with the Blu-ray versions which I don't like and you probably wouldn't either
On one hand, it’s good that they’re still making physical releases but on the other hand, the future seems uncertain.
I agree and the future of disney blu-rays are amazing.
Um, amazing? How?
How is this amazing?
According to my research, Disney's _Wish_ and Searchlight Pictures' _Poor Things_ will be the very last North American physical media releases by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. After which, all subsequent North American physical media releases of Disney-owned films and TV shows will be handled by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The Digital HD releases will still be handled by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. Also, as part of the new deal, Sony Pictures will technically gain the North American physical media distribution rights to all Disney-owned Muppet films and TV shows, such as _The Muppet Movie_ and _The Great Muppet Caper._ Sony Pictures once owned the home media distribution rights to those two aforementioned Muppet films from the late 1990's to the early 2000's.
Does this apply to the International releases like in the UK?
@@TheDerpyBoi No. The Disney/Sony physical media distribution deal only applies to North America.
@@TheDerpyBoiElevation Sales are already it’s new local distribution licensees anyway.
At least they're still using physical media instead of ditching it altogether
They must be desperate knowing they lost streaming subscribers
@@user-dk3up2nl1mdoesn't help that Disney keeps censoring classic Disney films.
I hope the new deal with Sony will give us plenty of new 4k catalog titles.
It’s basically no different than blu-ray and costs way more and requires a special TV and special player. 4K is irrelevant.
@@Kevmaster2000 Actually, it IS different.
@@Kevmaster2000 It requires a different player BECAUSE it's different.
Here's the KEY differences:
Lossless audio
HDR
4x Resolution
4x BitRate
All of which amount to a substantial and significant upgrade.
Especially when the 4K releases of movies are usually created from original negatives and specialist scans to create the high quality 4K masters.
This is extremely troublesome. Sony has stopped physical media in several European countries. For example, we couldn't get the latest Spiderman movie *anywhere* in Belgium, Germany,Netherlands etc. We had to import it from the UK.. scary times considering they were just on a roll with their Disney+ shows being released on Bluray.. wth is Bob Iger doing..
I just looked on Amazon Germany and Across The Spiderverse IS available on Blu Ray there, the box even has the German FSK 12 rating on it!
@@adultmoshifan87there’s even a 4K German release
@@adultmoshifan87 My bad, it was supposed to be France, regardless i don"t want packaging in German.
Despite their future physical releases almost being cancelled there, Plaion Pictures (formerly Koch Media) are already the new local distribution licensors for Sony Pictures in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Buy a PlayStation 5

R.I.P.
Buena Vista Home Entertainment (1977-2024)
I'm not sure they shut down Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
Now that scenario is "Completely Awful"!
Come on mate! At least have a little faith for crying out loud, they've just struck a deal with Sony to take over physical media distribution. You never know what potential that deal could have for Disney. Never!
Disney partnered with Roadshow to gradually start the home video era in Australia.
Not really, it was actually Disney partnering with Syme Home Video first in the home video era.
DMC will never be forgotten
They get a lot of flack, but I have found stuff on there that you will never be able to get anywhere else.
I almost joined last month, but never did. Then they announced they were closing and not taking new members. I bought 18 Disney Movie Club movies off ebay for an average of $37.50 each. Movies I was finally going to join the club for last month, but I waited too late and had to pay more. I regret not joining sooner, but am optimistic about their deal with Sony after seeing *InSearchOfPhysicalMedia* 's video. He has inside sources and the deal is truly a very good thing for us collectors if everything goes as planned.
Oh God!😢 I don't even know if Sony would be a perfect choice for making Disney releases.
Physical media is king!!!!
It’s really a big shame since I really wanted to join the movie club and well, I guess I have got to get Goofy Movie and Black Cauldron Blu Ray on eBay. And despite living in the UK, a lot of us Disney fans can’t really join movie club :(. Unless if Disney still wanted to release its movie club titles to the public, then wouldn’t that work, right?
R.I.P DMC😔 Glad I got this news from you Dave😭
I tried logging on the site, here in the U.S., & it seems they have created a loop that makes it impossible to sign in...
Wish i would've grabbed a few more of those exclusives when I had the chance😅
I'll cherish my DMC Exclusive Lithograph Book even more now😭🐒
Looks like you've got a few more months to pick up titles. Apparently the website has crashed because everyone's jumping on to grab stuff!!
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Oh Wow! Thanks Dave😁 Fingers Crossed the influx of people gets Disney to think twice about how they're handling thier physical media.🐒
I hope Sony and Disney will together restore original theatrical prints of Disney animated films someday.
By the way, Touchstone Pictures and 20th Century-Fox are my favorite Disney movie labels and TriStar Pictures is my favorite Sony Pictures movie label.
Keep dreaming
I'm really hopeful AID and Disney can strike a deal to continue releasing new and catalogue releases.
I'm not against streaming but I'm someone who wants to OWN the best quality version of the movies I love.
There is a reason I have invested thousands of dollars into a dedicated Home Theatre room and equipment and 4K Blu-ray/Blu-ray are the only formats that will take FULL advantage of my system.
I recently checked on eBay, and the few copies of the Blu-Ray for A Goofy Movie are already going for nearly *a hundred dollars.*
Got mine for average of $43.50 each. I thought that was too much, but I wanted them bad enough. Now, I'm glad I bought them when I did.
I’m so disappointed by this news as I really liked the Exclusives too. That seemed to be the only way for the past decade to get most Disney titles of the 20th century on physical media. Except for A-List Disney titles like the Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 4Ks we got last year.
I had really hoped we’d get more physical media releases of things like Walt-era TV and Disney Afternoon shows. And now I fear it might be over for things like that and that we’ll likely mostly just get new theatrical releases.
With me being a DVD and Blu-Ray collector, this is not good…
I think these companies should make a ton of ads reminding people that shows and movies don't stay on streaming services forever and to buy DVDs. That might drive up sales. They can also advertise the DVDs on Netflix and the other streaming services. They could encourage people to get both. Some kids are unaware that shows don't stay forever on streaming services.
Streaming services aren't everything though. There are plenty of digital storefronts (iTunes, Microsoft Store, Google/UA-cam, etc) for rental and purchase. You can keep movies on harddrives, you can even watch movies uploaded to UA-cam. The only movies people really need to worry about are streaming EXCLUSIVE movies: Prey, Crater, etc, and they usually find bootlegs or they're pirated online anyway.
I'm not trying to be a downer, just explaining that there are alternatives keeping people from buying physical discs. Everyone seems to think people live with streaming and nothing else.
@@rsolsjo I break my computers. Downloading TV shows and movies eats up data.
I want a complete series Blu-Ray release of How I Met Your Mother for it's 20th anniversary next year.
I'm getting sick of the streaming catch 22. They know there's a collectors market, waning as it is, and sometimes you just want to buy the movie, subscribing to the service or not. I'm very much not happy about how Disney is handling the theatrical releases of Pixar's Covid 3 (in a handful of theaters, at dumb times during the day, all in the span of 3 months when the strikes have severely cut their theatrical output) as it is. Then again, I've never really been happy with Disney's DVD releases. Disney Afternoon series being only released most of the way, the long wait and cancellation of The Muppet Show releases after season three. They did have some of their (horrible) 2000 era sitcoms released via a partnership with Lionsgate or someone. And even when they DID release a DVD set of a cartoon series the RIGHT way, it was through SHOUT, and it was a limited time deal (Gravity Falls, if you're wondering). And I'll say this. As much as an out of control dumpster fire Warner Bros has been the past several years (yep, even before He Who Shall Not Be Named), they put most of their streaming series on physical media. Even Hulu's Animaniacs. And seriously, I know Disney's NEVER going to get rid of any of their animated movies, or any of their bigger blockbusters from the streamer, in the uncertainty of all these companies purging EVERYTHING they can to make up revenue, we want a hard copy. Then all we have to worry about is disk rot.
I dont buy animated movies..but they sure have Classics from way long ago they can def cash in on if they release on dvd!
@@user-dk3up2nl1m It really seems those would be the ones they'd focus on. That said, I'm wondering if this Sony distribution deal was part of some larger deal that's letting Sony's Spider-Man films on Disney+. If that's the case, I wish they'd also get the two Sony owned Muppet movies on there. At least Muppets Take Manhattan. It feels empty without the complete original Muppet Movie trilogy.
Well Dave I thank you for the Fantastic coverage yet again! On the bright side, if somebody's going to be in charge of distribution, maybe they can pressure and push Disney to release some titles that have been released in a long time, or encourage them to make complete box sets! I know I have any others have been waiting for a complete Darkwing Duck box set Spider-Man the Animated series, gummy bears and so much more😅
My last Disney movie i ever bought on DVD was A Wrinkle in Time (2018 film). I still buy physical media. But it seems like DVD is cheaper. The positive about Physical media is that it is yours to own and yours to watch unlike Streaming services they just get rid of it completely over distribution rights
It really is interesting as well. About 5-6 years ago roughly, new DVD releases would be announced about 3-4 months before release roughly on sanity, ezydvd, jbhifi etc… in Australia I mean. Nowadays it’s literally only a month beforehand for new listings at most.
One thing it means is all my Disney Movie Club exclusives just went way up in value.
Is anyone surprised. It's sad but most people would rather pay a monthly cost for access to a large catalogue on demand.
What's even more sad is that catalogue is not even consistent or permanent.
Yeah but then again carrying around a slewfull of Blu-ray is kinda difficult
For me, physical media is priority 1. I use streaming when I travel or just for convenience without wearing out my blu-ray player or pulling my blu-rays off the shelf more than I need to. What's on my shelf isn't going anywhere, isn't getting edited, nor is my shelf divided up between apps at monthly costs for viewing each one. It's there and it's paid for. I don't have that guarantee with streaming. Not at all.
Since I tried responding and my comment was erased I'm adding my reply to this comment.
I have a lot of streaming services, but I still prefer physical media far and beyond streaming. I'm not guaranteed to always afford streaming like I can now and when that season of my life returns I'll still have my physical media. Plus the reasons I give above in my original comment. What's sad is when someone trades in quality & freedom for convenience and to be enslaved by the paid streaming subscriptions when it comes to what you can or can't watch. That's not for me, but you do you if that's the way you like it. @HylianBean97
Streaming is easier
For shows at least particularly DISNEY ones
Not every Disney TV show say Phineas & Ferb and also Gravity Falls
The UK does not EVER get complete box sets
Not even Warner Turds had bothered to release all 5 complete seasons as a box set of the classic Teen Titans animated series the way they did for Batman TAS/Superman TAS
Streaming is the way, what's sad is you can't afford to keep up with today's times lmao
@@HylianBean97 I have Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, FuboTV, and several free ones like Pluto, Tubi, & Plex to name a few. What's sad? I still hands down prefer physical media far and beyond streaming for the reasons I mentioned above. Just because I can afford all this now doesn't mean someday I won't have to cut costs to get by. It can happen. Don't think for a second that it can't. I've witnessed it.
I'm starting to see the collectors editions and steel books become more prominent. I'm not sure why the studios feel like they must get rid of regular edition releases. I definitely have the money to buy collector editions and steel books but I'll probably be buying less physical media now to fit my budget.
Would you be able to make a video about any Disney movie club exclusives or make sure you buy before it shutters completely? Or even if someone knows a link for a page for this same info. Thanks for any physical media collection help
Might in fact do something like this over the next few days
@DaveLeeDownUnder hopefully you mentioned the rare Cars video tape and chicken little
I hope I get the complete series of Phineas and Ferb on Blu-ray. I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Most TV shows only get released on DVD, not Blu-ray. Which is perfectly fine.
Phineas And Ferb is actually available on Blu Ray but only in Japan. I have Across The 2nd Dimension.
You better be careful or I'm going to tell mom.
Who did your shelving? Looks awesome!
They're all from IKEA!
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Really?
We just assume you did this yourself.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder How did you get the shelves so close to Blu-ray? I'm still trying to work out the best way to pull out the fixed centre shelf to see if I can get another row in
I work electronics at a retail store. Theres basically 4 physical media distributors theres, sony, sds, disney and alliance. Now its going to be 3 now
It's interesting when you consider that they didn't even want to do a Complete set of Gravity Falls in their own distribution division and just let Shout Factory do it. They still haven't even completed some of their shows and some still don't have a complete set like Phineas and Ferb which would of made sence to do one considering it's phenomenon. And as for Disney Movie Club, do they still have the goofy movies in stock and is it still possible to get them?
First off sense*
Secondly all complete shows of GF & P&F are on Disney Plus which is beneficial for UK fans who never get complete box sets for cartoon shows
We only had The Simpsons up to season 20 & SpongeBob SquarePants up to season 6 released on DVD which are probably now discontinued
Premiering Friday, June 14th on Disney+:
• "The Whoopee Party" (1932)
• "Music Land" (1935)
• "Officer Duck" (1939)
• "The Nifty Nineties" (1941)
• "Pluto and the Armadillo" (1943)
• "How to Be a Detective" (1952)
• "The Litterbug" (1961, final Golden Age Donald Duck cartoon)
Does this mean all the Marvel MCU 3D blu-rays that only Japan got will possibly be available in the US through Sony?
Another blow to physical media, lately there was a lot of great Disney movie club exclusives with cover art for recent marvel movies which I have loved. I’m going to try to get every obscure Disney movie or club exclusive before this shuts down.
What I am really hoping for is for Disney to acquire Alliance Entertainment as soon as possible so Disney's own home video distributor can absorb Mill Creek Entertainment and N Circle Entertainment's own home entertainment industries.
It feels like those Mandalorian and Marvel steel book releases last year were a bit of a canary in a coal mine release and I honestly believe that expensive collectors releases are the future of physical media. Pros and cons though as it means that yes things may get a physical release but also it bank breaking stuff at a time when the prices of everything are skyrocketing.
Saddens me. I know they are trying to push people to Disney+ but this is not the way to go about it. I love collecting and I double down. I was hoping to eventually get Fantasia in 4k. But doubt that will happen. Now I really wonder when the next Avengers comes out will it even get physical release. I get it they say sony will take over but I can see Disney saying to Sony you can't release that film till after a year on Disney+. This is just so sad. 😢
1. When you go back to doing Disney voice evolution, can you do Ariel's voice evolution?
2. You forgot to add Marge Simpson to your cartoon voice evolution playlist.
3. Is it true that you're really starting Evolution of Cartoons?
1. I won’t be doing an Ariel Voice Evolution. The Ariel Evolution is one of my worst performing ever.
2. I’ll fix it thanks.
3. Yes, it’s true.
I have the Blu-ray + Digital Code Multi-Screen Edition release of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
Surprised no one on any video about this mentioned the real advantage of movie club: weird signup deals that would let you get their movies for around $10 a piece when they rarely sold their movies that cheaply. Then you could cancel and reuse the signup offer.
Disney probably gave Sony the physical media rights just so Sony can shut up about spider-man
Disney will take back the Spider-Man Character Rights, while Sony gets to be the Physical Distributor as a trade off.
@@conradojavier7547wouldn't surprise me if that was part of the deal
For those of you who grew up, loved and watched J.G. Quintel's Cartoon Network animated show, Regular Show has now clearly predicted of what's about to happen next.
As the House of Mouse releases their final physical media titles, THE FORMAT WARS HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN!
Just stocked up on 5 of those yellow orangish blurays. $10 each plus 4.50 tax. Getting a free Junglebook Lunchbox. Going to miss the club.
This definitely raises a lot of questions about the future of Disney Blu-ray and dvd releases
Well at least Sony is here to help out Disney.
Sony was the company that does The Emoji Movie, Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Trannslyvania and Spider-Man: Spider Verse.
I never bought any disney animated movies...But...i do know they can cash in on the Classics from long ago that people grew up watching...Fantasia is a good one!

Got a ton of exclusive blu rays from the movie club so this is just sad.
Would be good if Umbrella Entertainment picked up the Disney distributor for Australia only if it's the DMC exclusives
I believe Umbrella have tried to get the licensing to a few Disney-owned titles, and the answer has always been an incredibly firm: NO.

It means Sony's going to do the dirty job for the mouse, then the mouse steal the credit and make Sony only get the 25% of the share while they get the 75% I guess?
Oh no that's not good😢
😢😢😢And I thought Warner Bros. having some ups and downs was crazy enough to handle
Its such a shame. They need to release physical media as streaming is not workable. Disney's problem is everyone already has the movies they love on Blu ray or 4K and there is nothing worth watching and the shows are complete garbage. I've been importing some titles i want like the 25th Anniversary of Titanic which looks 10 times better on 4k disc than the streaming title. Why sell DVD and blu ray players now as well? I got The Mandalorian from the UK its a 4 disc set 2 4K's & 2 Blu Rays and they look amazing. Now they are on eBay for around 200 dollars each as they were limited edition steel books. I bought a few extra copies to sell when they are all gone. The only thing i want is Sleeping Beauty & Alice In Wonderland in 4K with Atmos. Apparently they have been done but just not released, even on streaming. I would buy a spare 4k player. Sony has a great 4k for about 300 bucks. Eventually those players will be gone. Do not fear as look what happened with Vinyl. Never did i think or anyone that Vinyl records would make a comeback over crisp cd's but they have and people are buying more than 1 copy with special bonus tracks and extra things.
This is terrible! 😢
Well might be good news for Sony bought Disney but yeah I'm going to tell you that might be the worst decision I'm just conflicted right now it looks like Disney Movie Club is going out of business
