Mom guilt is real...but the best advise I ever got was....."if you are worried that you are a bad mom/failing mom/etc....then you are not BECAUSE bad moms don't even worry that they are bad moms. You are worrying, so you are safe!!!!!"
Two of my favorites together!!! Yay!! I'm one of those weird people who could go days without washing the dishes or picking up. I stumbled onto The Minimal Mom about 4 years ago and it completely changed my home. I started in my kitchen and went from cabinets stuffed with dishes to 10 plates/bowls (household of 8 + 2 for guests). GAME CHANGER!! We went from counters covered with dishes at all times, to creating a habit-ish of washing dishes 2-3 times a day. Minimalism (simple living) REALLY does work!!
I'm going to own it. I try to do my dishes everyday, but if I'm sick they are the first thing not to get done. It is what it is, the world will not end.
With today's comforters beds make themselves. If you and your husband get up at the same time say " honey help me make the bed real quick" Develop a habit. Your room looks and feels so much better. And at night more inviting. Everyone puts their dishes in the dishwasher. I would empty in the morning. One and done. In the days before microwaves you had to take meat out of the freezer everyday to cook for dinner. We all had dinner together and no TV. Pots and pans went in the sink of hot water while we ate. Pots washed everyone loaded the dishes. Kitchen clean in 5 minutes. Played outdoors tether ball or watched a little TV, bath for the boy. Then kids went to bed. If I didn't have a routine there would be twice as much to do after work. Enjoyed the video. Thanks you two.
The cycle of backed up dishes is awful. My family is/was terrible at it. We wouldn't ask the kids to help. I wouldn't do them because of my depression. My husband was too busy with his full time job and then our busy evenings running kids to activities. They would not be rinsed, then pile in the sink, get stinky, take forever to rinse, and get into the dishwasher. No one would mess with the hand wash (nonstick pans, water bottles, etc) because the sink was already full of caked on dishes. We would just hit up the drive thru because the kitchen was too messy to use! We have really turned a corner on this habit this year and it makes the biggest difference in our lives. It is the number 1 way for me to cook at home more often, which is a big focus now that I am pre diabetic. It sounds so silly that getting into the habit of doing dishes every day can change your life, but it is true.
I find that the more items I get out of the house, the less I’m tempted to buy. Just did two months of no spend (just essentials). Have been watching Dawn for about a year. Just stumbled on this channel. Thank you both for this collaboration. I no longer buy things I don’t need, with money I don’t have, to impress people I don’t like.
I love Dawn's perspective and I agree, people who aren't doing their dishes every day are so stressed out about it and certainly not telling anyone. Thanks for keeping it real.
LOVE THIS!! So funny how we all have our different pressure points. I cannot start my day without making my bed and getting dressed before I do anything else. I thank my mom for that. She raised us (6) to get up, make our beds, and get dressed before coming down for breakfast before school. It's as natural for me as brushing my teeth, so glad those habits were instilled in me.
I find decluttering distracts me from spending or wanting to and it makes me realize even more that I don’t want to fill my house with stuff I don’t need when I am trying to get rid of stuff !!!😂
So I stopped this podcast and went and decluttered a laundry basket that had turned into a catch-all. Lots of paper to recycle, things for the local mission and some things needed a home! Thanks for the motivation! You and Christine are my 2 favorites!
Absolutely love that you put your podcast on UA-cam. I also watched Sara, our tribe of many. These 2 podcasts very useful and informative. Thanks so much. I hope you continue to to put podcast on UA-cam.
I think it would be a hoot if we got the two families together as couples and they would address some couple issues or just kibitz back and forth.... They are examples of godly women and men and husbands and wives all together! Love what you do, folks!
@cookshackcuisinista YES!!! Oh my gosh that would be amazing!!! We need more of all of them in our lives & in our world. It’s so refreshing to see them thrive, be real, be humble & love the lord!!
🇨🇦 So fun, ladies! A great afternoon break! MM..I've been married 53 years. Last night, a box was discovered in my basement ("death" purging lol). It had shower and wedding cards and yearbooks. Oh my! They're gone now. 🤣 Thanks, Christine, for hosting.
I am fortunate enough to have 2 homes. I spend the year in summer. Every time I go from one home to another I declutter the things I did not use the previous season. I do keep entertaining dishes for my southern home. I also have enough dishes so I can use my dishwasher. I am single and eat veggies, so only cook once in a while. It takes a week to fill the dishwasher. I don't feel guilty one bit. I enjoy my life. Love you two!!! 🥰🥰 I love Kimberly Wisk, too!
I love when you too pair up! I am not your avatar as a 60 year old have a lot of whimsy like Christine, I love to cook for my family when they visit. I grew up very blessed from a material standpoint but we were frugal. Funny story, my dad bought a few cases of heinz ketchup because they were 99 cents each and they had coupons at the base commissary on them for $1.00 off. He was so proud they paid him a penny to get all that ketchup. We were all adults and he would load us up with ketchup in our suitcase to take home! I already was fairly minimal, but reduced clutter even more when I realized it was ok to throw away or donate stuff I hadn’t worn/used. Christine has taught me even more about saving on groceries. I’m a ninja at budgeting (accounting degree) and how to really cut utilities and gasoline. My parents were married “til death do us part” I could tell you so many stories of my dad and his frugal ways you would be laughing your butt off!😂 Christine I think you should come to Las Vegas and do a shopping video with me here! It’s not very far from St George!
We are a family of seven and we cook almost completely from scratch. We literally have to do four dishwasher loads EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. to stay caught up 😲
I love this yet at age 65 and a life long homesteader I have a lot of stuff that I use all the time! We raise chickens and beef. I have a big garden and I home can many many jars of food. I’m decluttering nearly every week. Yet I’m still using many things I have. I stopped for awhile because I found myself needing to buy a few things all over because I had tossed them. 😂
Christine, I am with you in the kitchen, we love to cook, and we love to eat. I use ALL my toys! AND my Tupperware! SO, I make sure everything fits well in my cabinets and I just reduce in other areas (I made room for my Ninja in the laundry room closet😬) It works!!! You and Dawn are so helpful and I appreciate the support and encouragement you give everyone.
So excited to have both of you in one podcast! I have enjoyed both of your content for awhile now. I appreciate how real and practical both you ladies are. Also, I do my dishes 3 times a day after each meal, by hand. I also do not enjoy putting up clean laundry.
You two make a good duo! Love the banter! I just realized watching this that I should try reducing our dishes to what fits in the dishwasher…🧐 Thanks for the new revelation! I want to hear more about what weird/niche you tube channels people watch! 😂
Daily chore list: Make bed, do dishes, wipe counter tops/stove, take out all trash, wash load of clothes. Then add one additional chore, like mop or clean another room top to bottom. It keeps my house in check. The only time I have missed a day is Sundays off, and when I had covid. But, lysol was doused all over the place.
I love this colab!!!! The mom guilt is so real!! Especially when you see other moms that are DOING IT!!! But I'm coming to the realization that things like meals, I'm going to have to make dinner every night, so I should make it easy. I feel like 2 weeks worth of meals, is more than enough variety.
I don't do dishes every day. Both my husband and I work and so we have 4 hours every night to do chores, make meals, help kids with homework, bedtime routine, plus maybe have a moment to relax after a long day. Dishes just aren't always a priority. Getting rid of inventory has helped even though we still keep multiple dishes, pots, pans, etc because cooking is also a form of hobby/ entertainment for us.
Dawn and Steph, from Secret Slob, have changed my life. Seriously. I was so overwhelmed and forced myself to make changes. They encouraged me so much- I just thought I was the only one who could never keep up on housework. My mom was good, my sister in-laws, friends… they all seemed to be able to stay on top of everything. Too much stuff! Such a key. While I still struggle, I can give up “things” more easily now. A manageable schedule is the next key (I’m one that never did dishes until there was none left). So very grateful to those two women for putting themselves out there. ❤❤
Lol i haven’t done our dishes in a couple days lol. Dawn’s right, i dont talk abotu it much. But we have 3 under 4.5 so i just gotta pick and choose what’s getting done today lol. But we’re working on reducing inventory and so far it’s already made a huge difference! 14:59
Yay!! Two of my favorites!! Also- I second Dawn’s recommendation, Keep Your Love On- Danny Silk is a FAVORITE, so, so good. Love all this great content. What a great collaboration!
Omg thank you both and just love you both so much! Thank you for saying u r not tidy naturally. Thank you for saying u don’t make ur bed everyday. Just thank you!
This was awesome! I resisted watching the Minimal Mom a few years ago because I'm not a mom and when she did a collab. that included Frugal Fit Mom, I'm neither fit or a mom but I love watching you both and get so many ideas and inspiration. I'm 60 and you both teach me new things that I'm grateful for. I love to cook so Frugal Fit Mom fills that spot plus I love to be thrifty. Minimal Mom keeps me on track with regular decluttering and re-thinking what I really need. I agree about the advertising and remember decades ago when I stopped getting the Sunday paper because of all the ads that tempted me when I was paying down debt. Thanks, ladies!
I can say doing the dishes daily was work for me. I grew up with a mom who showed me that housework wasn’t that vital. It was optional. So as an adult, I had to teach myself that chores are a must and they need done daily. I still get into the mindset I had as a kid that life goes on with messy dishes and I have to snap out of it and say yes there are messy dishes and I need to make time for them at some point before the day is done. It was nature vs nurture.
I think people who don’t make their bed overestimate how long it takes. My bed is a bit fussy, several layers and decorative pillows, but it still takes less than 5 minutes. Dawn, you’re the one who told us 5 minutes matter 😉
💕💕💕we wash our own, dry & put away which helpful, we clean kitchen sink & dishes daily before going to bed most times, but we both sick for 2 weeks with the flu has not happened
I used to be horrible about doing dishes daily. My younger sister would come over and the first thing she would do was head to the kitchen and start dishes. I FINALLY grew out of that bad habit. 🤣🤣
I like watching under the median and frugal money saver. And clean laundry can lay in a neat pile and I'll dig from it and use that laundry until I take a notion to hang it up
My favorite Dawn tool is a modified version of the Time will Tell box. I have a straw basket that i keep a garbage bag in. When i notice that something is annoying me, i drop it in the basket. When the bag is full, i take it to the donation center. I thought this was life changing because it lets you feel the control over when you're done with something.
I agree with you about marketing making you think you need things you don't! I'm so guilty of falling for that. That being said, I will say that I LOVE my Stanley cup 🤣 It gets used every single day! Every so often I find a product worthwhile but I will say it's rare. I loved this podcast ❤️
2 of my favorites 💙💙💙 thank you both so much for being so honest, positive & encouraging. It truly means the world. I don't do dishes daily, probably every other. Half of them make it into the dishwasher immediately lol. Reducing inventory and having more space to put things away has gone a long long way into relieving the dread of seeing the flat surfaces pile up. I feel way more capable as a person when I can manage my things. All our things are in storage right now as we truck drive all over the country, when we do buy a house again I will be only moving in the necessities and putting together a truly simple space. Then we can go through the rest of the storage space and see if we missed anything/keep for "Justin Case". I am so looking forward to the process 😁
I will add something....as women we forget to embrace our accomplishments whether it be our house or our family. We all need to remember how MUCH we really are doing:)
I have been paying a lot more attention to what I bring in my house. I don't want to clutter up again so I avoid buying. Plus I've been embarrassed by the amount of things I've been donating and throwing away. Great conversation!
Oh my! This is 2nd podcast of yours I've watched/listened to, and I absolutely love it! You have the best questions and so interactive and relatable. I appreciate the length, too, as you mentioned. I work 12 hr shifts in a room as a private duty nurse without outside interaction 🙃. 😘😘
Great podcast episode Christine! I am a fan of both You and the minimal mom for a number of years.1 observation You had mentioned that you hate putting away your laundry. I used to feel the same way. And then I reduced the quantity of what was in my drawers and in my closet. I found that now there is enough space for me to easily put my weekly laundry away. It was always frustrating to me that there was never enough space to put my weekly laundry away. Keep up the good work With both your podcasts and UA-cam. I'll be watching!
This was great girls!! Talking about nature, I was sitting with my 2 year old granddaughter playing in our front yard collecting pebbles in the garden. We have lots and lots of them and it got me thinking, I wonder if I would ever come across duplicate pebbles the same. It hit me that nature is awesome. I know that sounds silly, but it is just what happened at that particular minute Ha ha ha!! I love being outside and looking at clouds Dawn too. Love Jo from Australia xx
I was kind of sad that you said "show notes" and not "doobly do" 😄 Thanks ladies for sharing your tips and your issues with us! It's nice to know we're not the only ones with the problems we have, and that there is hope for change! Thank you!!
There are a lot of women out there that house hold tasks do not come easily. I also never was trained as a kid or did chores as a kid. My mom is really on top of things. It comes easily to her.
Oh my god I watch you both and love you both. This podcast was fantastic!! You made me feel so much better about myself with not being able to keep up with the everyday house hold chores thank you for that!! Keep up the good work ladies!!❤️
I loved kids moving out. The adjustment was fine. Im the only purposefully tidy person in the family. I love it when the kids are here and their "mess." Grandkid messes are very fun actually. LOL
Love both your different opinions…….it’s like the products NOW are sold through the good , better, best plus more moto. Today when we go shopping for any item the isle are sooo full of products for one purpose ie. shampoo for hair that it’s so tough to decide which product to buy. Do we buy the product that is the cheapest, or has the larger volume per price, do we buy the same one we have used over and over or maybe we should try something new, there are way, WAY to many options. It was soooo much easier way back when we had only one soap bar for ever thing. Life just 3 generations ago had less options, much less clothing, shoes and stuff, people lived, had Sundays OFF, when to Church believe in God more, spent time with each other, worked much harder and slept better. Thank you for the podcast.
That's why Walmart rearranges practically their entire store every 6 months so you're forced to search out what you need, no longer bypassing products you wouldn't have come across otherwise.
@@erinbisson918 you are lucky. During the pandemic my Sams stores moved EVERYTHING around and stuck a bunch of stuff in the aisles so you had to be crammed together in the store even though we were told to “social distance”. It was nuts and WM was no better.
READING PUTS ME TO SLEEP TOO I ALSO COLOR ON MY CELL AND DO WORD SEARCHES TOO ON MY CELL BUT NOW I AM READING THE BOOK DIVING INTO THE DEEP ABOUT THE CAPTION OF THE TITANIC
You guys are so awesome ! I found you both around the same time … I love laundry … I love making my bed … but don’t ask me about the crap in the garage … it’s organized but I have about 1000 dolls with no homes and little value but I just can’t seem to part with them …Glenda
I have three kids under nine who have multiple disabilities and differences. I wish I could pick low inventory OR good habits but I need both to survive. I am a PhD and former researcher and writer who is joyfully (and sleepily) always looking for high-impact ways to get through our current *very* challenging season.
Awesome video, love the ideas yall bounced off of each other. I want to give my personal thoughts about 'it has to be easier to put it away than to leave it out'... I get that because leaving it out isn't just the act of walking away from the items I set down, at some point I will come back for something else and have to move the first item out of the way, so it just became twice the work and if I have allowed that habit to creep in, there's a good chance that I will leave both this time.
If you cook three times a day, clean the darn dishes three times a day. Do a little all along and things don’t pile up. 😂we have the clean sink habit for decades.
I’ve just discovered the clean sink habit. It’s a struggle when you are battling severe depression & sometimes all you can do is make a meal that day. I’m making a conscious effort to do it daily.
All of Lucy Foley’s books are good! If you are enjoying this book, pick up The Sanatorium next! I was guessing until the very last page on who the killer was!!
The minimal mom and the frugal fit mom in one video… bring on the motivation!! 😂😍
Mom guilt is real...but the best advise I ever got was....."if you are worried that you are a bad mom/failing mom/etc....then you are not BECAUSE bad moms don't even worry that they are bad moms. You are worrying, so you are safe!!!!!"

Awesome! On this same journey. Dishes are two days behind, BUT we’ve had one of our counters clear for 2 days! Such a freaking huge win in our house!
Literally my 2 favorite UA-cam creators together in 1 video! Love this!
Yay! Thank you!
I'm going to own it. I try to do my dishes everyday, but if I'm sick they are the first thing not to get done. It is what it is, the world will not end.
I totally get it , Sheila. I find that now that I have fewer dishes, even when they can't get done, the kitchen is not overwhelmed. G Ire

Agree we just pull the covers up and I don’t have any of the decorative pillows. Doesn’t even take 2 minutes 🎉
Perfect
Not everyone has a dishwasher. I don’t so I need to do dishes after every meal.

I love both your channels, what a lovely conversation with both of you!
Hello Favs!! I’m implementing soo much from what I am learning in my journey from the both of you!! --Love & Hugs
You two should write a book together. The name could be guilt free mothering…

Well, Sundays I make the bed and load the dishwasher, but I don't do extensive chore lists, it's a quiet, restful day.
Yes Dawn!!! Forgiving what you can’t forget!!! So good!!!

I got The Guest List from the Library because of this episode & I’m loving it so far! Thanks for sharing Christine!
I can't wait to read the Guest List Thanks for the suggestion ❤❤❤
Great discussion!!!

I think people who don’t make their bed overestimate how long it takes. My bed is a bit fussy, several layers and decorative pillows, but it still takes less than 5 minutes. Dawn, you’re the one who told us 5 minutes matter 😉
This was great, thank you so much ladies! You are both powerful!!
Mind blown!! I didn't know you could watch a podcast and I am so happy.
And I get to binge a bunch now. Seriously excited 😊
Two of my favorite people!!!
I've tried Dawn's chicken chili recipe - it's fabulous!
Yeah!!2 faves
This was fantastic!! Loved the two of you together!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done, ladies.
🎉 Love the video thank you🎉
Christine your hair looks fantastic. I am working on decluttering by donating some items but more often then not I am listing them online for sale
Love flylady…I feel she started the shine your sink so many many years ago.
Two of my favs! Great energy and fun to see things from both points of view. Gotta watch to the end 😉
I was kind of sad that you said "show notes" and not "doobly do" 😄
Thanks ladies for sharing your tips and your issues with us! It's nice to know we're not the only ones with the problems we have, and that there is hope for change! Thank you!!
Great video! Love the benefits of simplicity! 💜
💕💕💕I loving my TIME WILL TELL Bind
I read The Guest List by Lucy Foley. It was great! So are her others.
There are a lot of women out there that house hold tasks do not come easily. I also never was trained as a kid or did chores as a kid. My mom is really on top of things. It comes easily to her.
Loved this! Love both of you
Oh my god I watch you both and love you both.
For the laundry issue, Dana K White just did a couple of videos about having a laundry day.
Great conversation!
That's why Walmart rearranges practically their entire store every 6 months so you're forced to search out what you need, no longer bypassing products you wouldn't have come across otherwise.
Same with Kroger. So irritating!!!
My walmart hasn't changed at all in 4 years.
@@erinbisson918 you are lucky. During the pandemic my Sams stores moved EVERYTHING around and stuck a bunch of stuff in the aisles so you had to be crammed together in the store even though we were told to “social distance”. It was nuts and WM was no better.
I hate putting laundry away also! 😭
READING PUTS ME TO SLEEP TOO I ALSO COLOR ON MY CELL AND DO WORD SEARCHES TOO ON MY CELL BUT NOW I AM READING THE BOOK DIVING INTO THE DEEP ABOUT THE CAPTION OF THE TITANIC
My notifications failed me 🥲
My 2 favorite creators!
💜💜
You guys are so awesome ! I found you both around the same time … I love laundry … I love making my bed … but don’t ask me about the crap in the garage … it’s organized but I have about 1000 dolls with no homes and little value but I just can’t seem to part with them …Glenda
My kids are so sick of me quoting Dawn...FFM is a fun watch and THANK YOU for the shout out to Awkward Mom....she's great!
💕💕💕we invented our toys when I grew up
Making the bed hack........ Sleeping bags..... You're welcome.
Best video!❤
All of Lucy Foley’s books are good! If you are enjoying this book, pick up The Sanatorium next! I was guessing until the very last page on who the killer was!!
