  • What is a Byronic hero?
Loki from the Marvel movies is a Byronic hero.
Kylo Ren from Star Wars is a Byronic hero.
Walter White from "Breaking Bad" is a Byronic hero.
Jack Sparrow from "Pirates of the Caribbean" is one too.
A Byronic hero is universal, archetypical, and obviously very popular.
This video offers 10 characteristics and 10 examples of Byronic heroes.

Bruce Wayne/Batman is a good example of such characters

Yes, excellent example. Especially the more recent iterations. Adam West, not so much.

Guts from the series Berserk is a good example from Japanese comics. Specially the Seinen genre. Though id like to make mention he is probably the darkest of byronic heros I've seen. He does a lot of awful things, an he carries the guilt of his actions within, albeit deeply suppressed.

I don't know Guts from Berserk, but based on your description he sounds like a Byronic hero. Thanks for contributing!

@drybones5512 if I could recommend a video to review for research purposes. I'd recommend "Why Guts stands out from other protagonist" by Soul, or "The Life of Guts (Berserk)" by The Amagi. The series Berserk has been massively Influential in many series. Even having homage paid to the series in games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.

Good explanation on what the Byronic Hero is. Many of the characters you mention in your presentation are ones I didn't see as Byronic. It's a diverse list to be sure, and now I see that they are similar in ways. You also hint at what motivates these characters and this gives us insight into their natures. Their appeal is more apparent, therefore.

@@drybones5512 our teacher made an exam today and it was about byronic heros traits also wanted us to explain how the character Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights has those characteristics. It was really easy thanks to you.

    Eugene Onegin counts?

Yes, I believe he does. I haven't read Pushkin's book yet, but from what I understand, he counts.

I've recently started to read classic books, and the first time I've read about lord Byron was through Frankenstein, because mary Sheryl and her husband were with lord Byron, and then I've became aware that he wrote Don Juan, and then a lot of classic books were inspired by his heros like the Bronte sisters, and even the count of monte Cristo.

Yes, and it's one of the reasons Heathcliff and Edmond are so intriguing. You made me want to read them again--thank you.

That is a great question! So I did some thinking, and I think my answer is yes and no. And this makes perfect sense, because the Bryronic Hero is a product of his time, and times have changed. He's an example of a Byronic hero because he is complex; he's intelligent; he carries with him a sense of alienation and loneliness; and he is strong willed and determined. Where he diverges from the Byronic Hero, I think, is that he is less romantic--his focus is ambition rather than passion. And he doesn't have an internal moral code that guides him--he's more pragmatic when it comes to morality. Perhaps Breaking Bad is answering the question--what would a Byronic hero look like in the first decades of the 21st century. Thanks for this.
