There’s not much will Grow in the woods that would be a screen that you can plant. If it’s in the woods it’s already cover. Maybe do some edging around the plot hinge some trees and direct flow that way
Just curious would you recommend broadcasting what fertilizer the soil sample calls for a few weeks before you plant or do you think putting down the fertilizer when you plant is ok?
I would imagine. I don’t practice no till so not sure. The seed doesn’t need to be covered up very much to germinate so broadcasting into a crop and terminating it should work
It has always been pasture. This is my first time doing this and the first time this has been anything other than pasture. I have sprayed it and waiting for soil samples to come back. I am late getting to this because I just got the ok to do it. I just don't want to waste time and money but, I want to do it right. I am in Southern Illinois. Thanks for your time.
Great video. First year using Egyptian wheat. Question i have is for the following year is the leftover dead wheat extremely heavy and need to be cut and tilled?
Yeah so whatever is left over I just mow it and disc it back in. EW is a ruler really good for the soil as well. After the first year it turns the soil black around the root system. It will decompose the following year pretty quick back into the soil
I planted in seperate 15ft rows making sure the switchgrass was on the sunny side of EW so that the EW would not shade out SW. EW got 8' while SW was 3' (first yr)
I watch all your videos, any advice on food plot cover for shaded areas

Put it down the same time you plant is the ideal way.
I'm stoked! Spring has sprung!
Absolutely I’m excited as well. Gotta get some stuff growing having with drawls lol
what are the pre planting steps that need to be taken if I want to plant EG in the exact same place
Soil sample, control weeds prior to planting. Waiting until proper soil temps and then planting
For the broadcasting of egyptian wheat, where do you have your seed gate on your earthway broadcaster?
I believe 2.5 but I don’t really look at it. I just start walking and gradually open it until it starts coming out.
Can you no till broadcast egyptian wheat?

What can you spray on egyptian wheat that is about 2" tall? I wasn't able to spray the day I planted.

I just recieved 5 lb. of sudangrass is it the same thing as Egyptian wheat or no?
No but I prefer Sorgum Sudan it grows better.
Thanks for the great video !! And the great advise !!
No problem at all. Hope it helps
I've heard it. We will listen again today. Great sermon
When is a good time of year to plant EW?
After any dangers of frost and with temps in the 70’s. EW loves heat!
Thanks for the video man. Helps a lot !
Your welcome anytime 🙋♂️
OK I wasn't sure if the crab grass will choke it out
Shouldn’t you said it’s already a foot tall so should be fine
Have you ever tried growing switchgrass with Egyptian wheat? Using Egyptian wheat as cover crop until switch gets established?
Yeah it won’t work. Switch needs to be planted alone
