    Nice! Do you think it matters how long presentation renders take to draw as I know you have talked about sketching things quickly in other videos? If so, how long did that beautiful drawing take? Also, should the shadow also be visible through the bottom hole? Good job

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks for the question. Great point about the time it takes. I’d say this is a different type of drawing. It’s more a presentation drawing (rather than ideation sketching). This is an old school method, that in my opinion, still has it’s uses. It took about 60-70 minutes.... too long for a sketch during the early development stages. You’re absolutely correct.... and the first to mention the missing shadow. I noticed it straight away and filled it in, but after I’d finished filming sadly!

  • @simondehaas6460

    This looks incredable! But with my own renders I can't really wrap my head around those multiple shadows and highlights on cilinders, I tend to just put one highlight line and then make a shadow gradient from there to the edge. How do you know where to place those highlights? If you could make a tutorial on the topic that would make my month haha. Anyways great work, keep it up!

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  4 роки тому +7

      Thank you. I hope to go into this in some depth at some point. Broadly speaking, if it’s a reflective material, it’s likely to reflect the whole range of tones from black to white, and if it IS reflective, it’s likely that the reflections will be a mix of gradual change and immediate change (sharp edge difference between black and white). If it’s a dull material like aluminium, the range will be softer. Hope this helps for now.

    • @simondehaas6460
      @simondehaas6460 4 роки тому +3

      @@productdesignermaker Thanks, yes that clears it up some. The less roughness the material the more detail it will show in the reflections. I think I will work with photo reference next time to study how material reacts to light.

    May I ask what type of paper would you recommend to use with copic markers? Thx!

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, in my opinion, the best paper is specific marker pen paper. You can buy this online and in art supplies shops. The great advantage of this paper is that it doesn’t bleed. In other words, the ink from the marker pen stays exactly where the nib has been, and doesn’t soak outwards into the paper. There are lots of different brands, so I recommend you see what’s available near to you. Anything calling itself ‘marker pen paper’ from a reputable brand will be good.

      Anthony Grolleau Not so much a time constraint exercise, but when I started the rendering, my intention was to offer people an opportunity to watch the process whilst encouraging them to have a go themselves. I didn’t want to spend a huge amount of time on the rendering, and wished to simplify the process, to bring it to people who might have been less inclined to have a go at producing a photo realistic artwork.

      It’s an old fashioned skill that is largely replaced by digital rendering. However, it’s good to understand and have these skills, because we can use many of the same principles in other types of sketching and communication. We may have a design idea the we would like to render, when we feel we don’t have the time to simulate on computer. Hope this answers the question.
