My first was a Gremlin, had my share of Mosquitos. Also had the Colossus... and i don't remember the names of a lot of them.
Had a triple engine with lofter (i think it was the Scrambler), a couple Astrocams, a Flash Gordon inspired one... so baby good memories.
Once made, i didn't like launching em cause i dated the sulfur smell
Sweet...a walk through time...Estes still has the best catalogs...full of very useful info...and always focused on the new rocketeer...👍👍
I remember this catalogue.....I don't remember if I ordered anything from it, I was mostly a Centuri rocket customer....but I do remember really wanting the Mars lander.

I still have my Scrambler, WAC Corporal and V2 Maxi.

The 1974 catalog was my first. I was a 14 year old who started that year, so this is sentimental and reminiscent for me. My first rocket was a WAC Corporal that I put the fins on upside down and it went high but blew up!

We used to buy a few Mosquitos at July 4th. About a week actually. And stripped down fire crackers for gun powder. Packed the Mosquito as much as possible with the gun powder. And glued a booster engine inside. Used coat hangers,metal ones bent as straight as possible for lunch rods. Used the fuse from the fire cracker to ignite the booster engine! Zoom off they went...and....BOOM 💥💥💥🚀🚀🚀

I still have my 1972 Estes catalog. I actually had to send a letter to Estes Industries, Box 227, Penrose, Colo 81240 to get it. I got the address from another kid at school that had one. I was 12 years old. I asked for the balsa Alpha starter kit, an X-Ray rocket, and some extra engines for Christmas. And I got them. I'm still playing with model rockets to this day. I tried to get into mid power model rockets, but it was just too expensive, and there was no place nearby to launch them. So I stick with D engines and smaller. I design and build my own rockets, and built my own launch pad and launch controller.
That "Firing Line" launch pad looks a whole lot like the Centuri launch pad from that time. There was a battle going on in my school. One side was Estes, the other side was Centuri. I chose Estes. They're still here (sort of) and Centuri is long gone.
I think those cold propellant rockets actually used R-12 refrigerant for propellant. The EPA would not be happy with that today.
I got into Rocketry in 76 or 77. I remember those catalogs at the hobby shop. The hardest rocket I tried to build was the Mercury Redstone. Never finished it. Way above my skill level. :(
Not sure how many “Mosquitoes “ I had. Maybe 4-5. Not sure why I was losing them. (Other than not caring about weather. Just a fun kit that was cheap to buy and fly.

I was 10 in 1974 and my Father had some cold propellant rockets you basically pulled a pin on a string type deal. Basically filled up on Freon like modern day cig lighters, it had screw on nozzles, ect for it too. The cool thing about this catalog is when Estes sold individual parts. It's too bad they still do not do this on a intensive level, create a parts division and use or remake old molds and sell just parts? I don't like their new cheap corporate direction at all lately, like minimal product just for the $$$.

I sold most of my Estes catalogs, but I MIGHT still have the 1974 edition.
I have a 1971 catalog -- bought in the mid 90s -- which was the second I'd had. Many of the same models as here, with a few that didn't make it (Space Man, Space Plane, Agena) and some yet to be introduced.

the Good Days. i built my Rocket Scout and Mark in 1970.
I have a A-20 Demon, balsa/plastic NC. Good shape. Got it in a sale with other rockets. Looks like it's 49 years old, chute and strings are very good, shock cord very brittle. I think I am going to post it onto one of the FB boards soon.

The Wac Corporal was the first rocket I bought with my own money when I was maybe 12 years old. I brought it home after school and hurriedly glued the fins on at about 3:30 pm. one cold January day. I couldn't wait to launch it even though my older brother warned me to wait until tomorrow because it was getting dark. We launched it at about 5:15 pm and it flew out of sight. It was too dark to go look for it and we never found it even through years of launching and retrieving rockets in my neighborhood. I even found one in a tree in near perfect condition after losing it in the summer and spotting it in a bare tree in the dead of winter.
