    One thing that I discovered while travelling in Europe was that the map theme actually changes depending on which country you are in. It reflects the road colours that is in use in that particular country.
    A very useful video, even for long term users of the Zumos.

    Thanks for taking the time to create this detailed video. I know how time consuming that is. I ride a Honda ADV 150 and I am researching this GPS unit so this was very helpful. I will probably purchase one down the road. It seems like it would be ideal for the type of adventures I enjoy. Take care!

      Great explanation! Thank you! One thing: I prefer using coordinates to build a route, i found that’s far more accurate to reach the exact destination i want. Google Maps provides the destination and i just copy that to the trip planner. Excelent!

    Good tutorial on the 396. I've been using one for over a year. I'm happy with it. It's loaded with a bunch of junk that you'll probably never use, but it's there if needed. I mainly use it to display my google maps created routes. Loading created google maps routes can be tricky, it seems to be hit and miss though. THAT'S the video you should do. A LOT of people complain about the route transfer/loading process.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Рік тому

      Thank you, there are some things Garmin could improve.
      1. The touch screen is too small and with bike gloves you will be accidentally clicking the wrong letter.
      2. The mount is not easily removable like that of the car suction mount. The only way you can remove it is to have a screw driver. Although there are aftermarket mounts that can be snapped in/out without tools.
      3. It has frozen on me once while using it on a car, which was fixed with a software update.
      There was only one rout error due poor satellite reception which is understandable.

    Nice video! Lots of good details! I am new to gps and I am wondering if the gps, but more precisely the Zumo 396 LMT-S can just record my ride, without given it a destination . Sort of a way to log my trip. I could not figure out if it can when reading to manual. Thanks!

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Місяць тому +1

      Hi, yes, you can do that by enabling the trip log. Even if you go on the wrong route or in circles, as long as the trip log is enabled, it will record it on the map. Then, in Map layers, you can check the box to show where you have been before. This comes in handy to let you know if you are going in circles in case you are lost during off-roading or hiking.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes, you can use their free software called BaseCamp. You will need to install the software on your PC and then copy all the stored POI ( Points of Interest) from the source Garmin to your BaseCamp, then connect the destination Garmin and copy them back to it.

  • @Danthelittleguy

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101

      I didn't make a video on that, but you can do it using a PC application called ( Garmin Base-camp )

    • @Danthelittleguy
      @Danthelittleguy Місяць тому +1

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 my fault. I should have explained that I am using Basecamp to create the route. When I go to send it to my Zumo 396 it only gives me the option to send it to the Zumo's internal memory, it doesn't give me the option to send it to the MicroSD card. I was wondering if you had done a video on how to send it to the SD card instead of the internal memory?

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Місяць тому +1

      @@Danthelittleguy Got it, so here is how it works. You can only transfer routs to the GPS internal memory because that is where the main GPS processor looks for routs. The only items that can be on the SD card are the following. Maps, Multimedia files such as photos and music, and POI ( points of interest files). However, the maps must be inside a folder on the SD Card called Garmin, the photos in a folder called JPEG, and the Points of interest in a folder called POI.

    Hi, very informative video and I really appreciate the info you gave Sertao2013 about taking from tracks to convert to a route. Thankfully this was sucessful for me as well, however, I did have to remove my Micro sd card to download my gpx conversion as I could not figure out on my old windows 7 computer how to just connect the garmin unit itself to accomplish this? Both the internal drive and my SD Memory shows up but I can"t drag and drop into the SD memory. I am pleased that using the method you laid out for Sertao2013 made using this unit possible. If I couldn't figure out how to import a gpx file, I probably would have returned the unit. Any idea of how not to have to remove the SD card to tranfer gpx files while the SD card remains in my Zumo 396 LMT-S?

    I watched even your video how to repleace battery in GPS.
    But when I started to look for battery to this device I could not find it. There is going about battery marked 361-00059-01.
    I was in contact with Garmin already but still dindn´t get any feedback.
    So could you recomend me where I can find this (ideally orgiginal) battery?

      Hi, Garmin usually do not sell internal parts and components including batteries to end users. They would want you to send in your GPS for battery replacement, so you have to get an after market brand. I believe this is the correct battery but you can double check to connector to make sure it matches yours. www.ebay.com/itm/203736442710

    Good review of a terrible unit. Route calculations take many minutes. To the point that my 5 minute screen times out and I have to start all over again. Shaping a route on-screen is impossible, when I move the screen's view it assumes that I have chosen a shaping point and begins navigating. There is no way to cancel the shaping point without waiting minutes for the calculation to end or start all over again. Loading maps from Google or Calimoto does not work. The route shows as a straight line on the screen. Every few months I give it another try, get frustrated and give up. It is rugged though! I've thrown it against the floor twice and it hasn't broken yet. In all honesty, I have had it for over a year and I have not used it to navigate even once!
