One of my favorite parts about GX was the fact that Kaibas pettiness is on full display with how the school operates. Kaiba had Obelisk, so Obelisk students are treated like absolute royalty. Yugi had Slifer, so Slifer students are treated like absolute dogshit. Which just leaves Ra students in the middle by default, eventhough Ra is considered in the anime to be the best god card of the three. But Kaiba has to put himself at the top, and Yugi at the bottom. So Ra students are left in the middle and while not as good as Obelisk students, are seen as far superior to Slifer students. And while they're not treated as absolute royalty, they're for the most part still treated with respect.
I won't lie when i say that it is interesting to see how despite being good person at heart who will do the right thing Kaiba still suffer from having a major ego when compared to Yugi and designed the school system the way it is so he can feel good about himself no matter how much of a flawed and problematic system it is and what feels disappointing is how this was never explored in the show like how Kagemaru wanted to create a duel academy where everyone learns to duel but also have fun dueling and being treated fairly regardless of their skill but had to watch as Kaiba, the one played a major part in it's creation, ended up turning it into an outlet for his ego which depressed and embittered him enough to plan the destruction of Duel Academia as well as Kaiba Corporation with one of the Shadow Riders being a former Slifer student who was treated poorly due to his rank and expelled by being falsely framed for something he didn't do by a terrible Obelisk Blue teacher similar to Crowler but maybe even worse who the Slifer student took revenge on after joining Kagemaru and becoming his right hand man.
To be fair though even if yugi ran the school it would probabily be the same just with Ra as the last house because it would be the order he obtained thecards...
Also we get to see that Kaiba has situated his office somewhere near the center of the sun considering how bright the windows are in the scenes we see of said office.
I was not a big fan of his fall from grace at first. But his outfit was SO BADASS and SEXY! No homo. It was just an absolutely amazing makeover of his character both internally and externally. The Cyber Dark Dragon was awesome too! Even playing off the idea of “The Underworld” with getting 100 points for each monster in the grave and sapping the power of a dragon in the Graveyard to boost its power. They thought that out really well for the already best character in the series. Heck, he’s my favorite male protagonist in the Yugioh franchise for a reason, while he was the “Seto Kaiba of GX” he turned it into a class of his own if you ask me.
Cyberdark Dragon always looked kinda decrepit and to me, but Chimeratech Overdragon was so hype for me! Chimeratech felt like the more natural evolution of Zane's Cyber Style rather than a replacement. It was just as destructive, and I could tell he was serious when he threw everything into it for a big OTK. Now that there are a few more of those in the game I'm at least glad they've gotten some tough contenders.
After watching your Everything Wrong with Yugioh series, I realize that I was a Joey as a kid, my deck would be filled with random cards and a majority of them would be monster cards and no traps or spells.
@@Klonoahedgehog I realized my deck was crap when I went to a local and lost in the first round, but now I'm building decks that are work of each other

I fucking died when alexis said "I liked you more when I couldn't understand what you were saying" and Bastion just goes "Oh, sorry" I'm just imagining that happening in real life and being so uncomfortable.
There is a great line in the dub episode with Chumley's dad, where him and Banner are drinking """hot sauce""", and Chumley's dad finishes his glass of the """sauce""" and then he announces that 'nature calls' and leaves the room - with the change to Hot Sauce, it comes across as if he is announcing he is about to have violent diarrhea, as I cannot imagine anyone drinking hot sauce in such a way and not having an extremely upset stomach.

@@motodog242 You're talking about Zexal, where he was mentioned as part of Duel Monsters and GX showing off in wooden monsters which Yuya had to fight to get better at dueling.
I actually remember most of GX's filler episodes, due to watching multiple reruns of it as a kid. Especially from the first season. It's one of the reasons why I preferred it over the original, and why it's still my all-time favorite. It also introduced some of my favorite archetypes: HERO, Cyber Dragon, Ancient Gear. Including the ones that didn't appear in the anime, like: Six Samurai and Lightsworn.
I found that guy to be hilarious, really. A guy whose entire success is built on his subjects just letting him win makes sense too since he was an ancient pharaoh petty enough to probably execute them over winning against him so his subjects fed into his stupidity to survive, which only makes his absurd character even funnier.
33dbz it makes sense actually he was chosen because it was believed he was great at the game not even he knew that he actually sucked so naturally whoever picked the shadow riders thought he was great
This might have worked if the pharaoh wasn't a Shadow Rider but instead more like the enemy of the week type character like all the others early in Season 1 but seeing as the Shadow Riders where supposed to be major threats i find it really weird that Kagemaru would pick someone who couldn't duel properly.
Not only that but when he does show up again in a later episode his back to Buff Tarzan like what the hell, id say at least keep it consistent but this is an anime about a school that teaches how to play a children's card game so whatever.
In regards to the conversation starting at 10:50 (because apparently no one is talking about it), the reason why the aspect ratio changes is because of what’s called “overscan”, which was common in tv’s back in the day. See, when the show was been produced, they expected that all viewers were tuning in via a 4:3 CRT, which has a tendency to slightly cut off the borders of TV shows, so they weren’t as strict on those inaccuracies because no one would ever see them. What’s likely happened for the scene in question is that the animators/editors have overlaid a new visual, and once the other is no longer visible underneath, or flat out not needed, they clear it away, but because the two visuals don’t hold the same aspect ratio, it causes that effect, which again, viewers would never see on their tv. And even then, it’s possible the networks somewhat cropped what they were given before broadcasting, and probably still do that to this day, hence why we don’t see them when streaming or watching tv channels, and the unmodified version is what goes onto their catchup services. I’m assuming you’ve taken your visual from the offical UA-cam channel, which are probably raw exports, either from back on the day, or re-rendered for the modern viewing platform. With how cleanly most of the episodes end, skipping the credits, I’m sure they probably have done a re-render.
@@frogthejam2472 the entire setting is about a class struggle between the haves and have nots. The unfair distribution of wealth and the rich profiting off the work of the poor is a constant talking point.
Chazz is one of Yugioh's best characters, but I think that combining the manga and anime version would make him even better: A comedic rival with entertaining duels that can even beat Jaden when he goes all out. Basically Anime Chazz but with the duel record and relevance of Manga Chazz.

That was the first moment where we got to see crowler as a good person and it made me like him a lot more in the later seasons after having seen that. Also, seeing as cammys deck was garbage, crowler shoulda been able to win that duel fairly easily
@Drive Check. Honestly the dub really started changing with Season 3 Ye sure it, did kinda switch quite bit of dialogue with 2 and 1, but it was mostly same, probably more logical kids doing idiotical stuff in school, Season 3 was bit too much, though i liked the direction Season 4 went, was quite good.

Fun fact: in the Brazilian version, the guy who stolen Yugi's deck is dubbed by the same voice actor who dubbed Yugi Muto and Yami Yugi in the Duel Monsters series.
Maybe Jaden was confused about Blue Eyes cards because there’s only 4 BEWD in existence. So let’s say this : they buy a booster pack , they pull a BEWD support card. Why would anyone beside Kaiba use them? There’s no one else in the world that can use them. 3 cards so incredibly rare that you’ve never seen in action, owned by the millionaire and second best duelist. Now, let’s say that they do teach it in duel academy (probably the best place to learn about this stuff) These kids slept 3/4 of the class and only wake up for lunch, it’s sort of reasonable that they’ve never even heard anything about BEWD
The best things about GX is how silly a lot of it is. Remember when the Little Lebowski defeated Duel Elvis? Top 10 duels right there even though it took up maybe 2 min of screen time.
Seriously: Am i the only one who waitied for BOTH Syrus and Jaden to finally use Future Fusion 3 times in their Decks?!? Zane showed that this Card actually existed in their Time! Why the heck did no one ever used it but Zane?
These videos have improved a lot. Where the first ones for Duel Monsters were mainly nitpicking at how anime cards do different things than IRL cards or don't exist... this video really goes more into what bothers you about the writing, pacing and characters of the show. It's great to see a UA-camr make progress in how they criticize media.
First 64 episodes of 5Ds is easily to me the best Yu-Gi-Oh has gotten in terms of story, characters, pacing, duels and so on. Sucks that it takes an hit in quality in the remaining arcs, but it's still enjoyable.
Bastion’s character went downhill because his deck wasn’t selling well. Yugioh will pretty much focus more on characters whose decks are bought by many people.
Yup, just like how Aki's character went downhill because Crow's deck was selling better. At this point idk who got cucked harder, Aki or Fugo from Jojo part 5.
well, to be fair, were they really expecting to sell bastion decks when the show itself makes it clear he has at least 6 different main decks? it wasnt one deck that evolved like every character from DM and what i have currently seen of GX, it was one off decks designed specifically to counter his opponent.
Joey is my favorite character in the entirety of the Yugioh series & I will never get over that GUARANTEED W he was robbed of in battle city. Would've loved to see him get a chance to duel Seto Kiba or Yugi with Ra. Imagine all the Joey God card archetype decks we could've had.
I remember starting to watch Yugioh and it was pretty much nearly over, so when GX started I was so hyped that I got to watch it all from the start and form connections with characters. Huge nostalgia.

To be fair, Joey would've lost to Odion, divine intervention of "who can stand up first after being struck by lightning in a lightning storm" was the only reason he moved onto the semi-finals. Even if it was the real Ra and used its actual effect in the TCG (which is Marik's secret effect, donating all your lifepoints sans 1, to make up its atk and def), Odion would've won with 399atk to delete Joey's 200lp.

10:22 while yes bastion does play well and how he plays while playing towards the opponents weaknesses is smart it can't always be done since unlike real life, where people in tournaments will usually play meta decks, and you can add cards to counter them that's not really possible in the anime nor manga(all the time) Since usually a new rival appears, and they never play staple cards, characters just have a deck and they are flexible. Bastion could only make a deck to counter his opponents if they were from duel academy. Otherwise he would just have his six elemental deck and decides just before the duel or if he has knowledge of the element, whether because he saw the duel or he knows through some other way like in his duel with chazz, chazz commented something about "charing his deck with his Flames of malice" so he chose the water deck to counter his fire attribute monsters
"The episode where Syrus was tricked into going to the girl's room and they sat on him". Oh so that's why every 20 years old on Twitter has a facesitting fetish
my favorite part of GX is when Judai becomes spirit hitler and genocides 12 spirit dimensions and then the world gets saved by some dude running VOLCANICS how many days has it been since no new volcanic support, again?
6:46 I always assumed the cards in the anime were made of thin metal or had a thin but ridgid metal border around them, as well as some kind of NFC chips in them so when they were placed on a Duel Disk they would transmit a holographic image. It would explain why the the cards even make holographic images to begin with, why the characters toss them around all willy-nilly as weapons, why nobody has card sleeves and why they are "ruined" but still intact when they get wet, like dropping your phone in the water.
This theory goes out the window in the very first episode of DM, when Kaiba tears grandpa's Blue-Eyes in half like regular paper. Also, in the Waking the Dragons filler arc, Raphael's cards become worn out after they fall in the water, but work on the Duel Disk just fine. At the end of the day, the cards are made of Plot Devicium, a material that is just as durable or frail as the story needs it to be.
I know what Zane was trying to say with Power Bond. He means that even if you know what it does, sometimes a card won't give you the best benefits until you play it at the right time. Power Bond is the card to use when there's no real worry and you know you're gonna win in a single strike, but you always gotta be weary of a face down card on the field, because anything that stops an attack will make the user take the penalty. Using a card vs playing a card. Playing it randomly vs playing it at the right moment
Yea, this is why Syrus feels like he cannot use it - because he fears he'll do the same mistake again, and he always assumes Zane looks over his shoulder to judge him
Yusuke Kitagawa like when he attacked the moon, or attacked castle of dark illusions flotation ring, or in season 5 where his will alone lets him draw whatever card he needs at that moment lol

Nightshroud (atticus) - has none he was brain washed in the basement
camula - talked about in the video the only good one
tania - wants a husband so she joins and evil orginization
Don Zaloog - he and the other DS are duel spirits brought to life to do this job which could have been interesting if done anything with
the fact they weren't of this world and brought into it and want to stay or something literally anything
abidos - doesn't even know how to duel and is a spoiled brat, you're telling me he didn't duel anyone before going to the island to get the spirit keys
would have worked far better as a filler episode with magic that allowed jaden to fight him and reveal he is a phony similar to king in opm
titan - he is now what he was pretending to be, i found charm in his antics in the first apperance like i said in the video with him being basically a wrestler selling a bit
but now that his powers are real that charm goes away leaving me with nothing to find enjoyable about him
kagemura - i slightly touched on in the video but in his case he is both hyped up as the big bad but also given nothing to be feared about. we are told he is evil but not really

I'm fairly sure Jaden has 2 polymerisation in his deck. I seem to remember him drawing a second one when he dueled Yubel
yeah he's running multiple.
@@dannydevito4184 a card cannot be run. A card can be played.
@@insignificant_intersteller which one?
@@insignificant_intersteller in the manga, he only used his masked heros for 2 or 3 duels, and he lost one of them.
In the anime, he never used them
@@insignificant_intersteller I mean, they're kind of good now, but back then they weren't THAT good. There's a reason why they were barely used in the manga and lost a pretty high percentage of their duels, they weren't popular at all, at least to my knowledge.
"What can you tell me about chumley...."
Easy. He flunked his first year, his dad wants him to run his sake/hot sauce company, he has inspirations to be a card designer, which he ends up pursuing. Also, Jaden and syrus were his first friends
He also loved Koalas quite unhealthily.

@@medusa-anime9178 no hes prrediting the next episode of eww yugioh i think
NO THAT'S WRONG!
Can we all just acknowledge that in episode 13 Jaden fights a monkey literally named Wheeler! You know Kaiba had to be all in on that name picking lol.
A lot of the " Do you even remember these episodes..." I actually do remember. The GBA game Duel Academy had a lot of special events that correlated to the show if you looked for them.
I wish they delved more into North Academy as well as the other surrounding academies.
Nah, it's:
Hamon, Lord of the Jojo's
Ravioli, Lord of the Pastas
Uranus, Lord of the Gleaming
I prefer to call them
Ham and Cheese, Lord of Lunchtime
Raphael, the coolest ninja turtle
Brendon Urie
More like Uranus, Lord of surprise buttsex!
Hamon

>I don't know, how many loaves of *BREAD* have you eaten in your life?

But also. Joseph would be a maaad duelist, bro. He'd be able to predict your next move and then some. I can already imagine a few scenarios and I already typed out a "Jaden vs. Joseph" scene but it's kinda cringe ngl so you try 'n imagine what it'd be like.
😂😂
The time has come and so have I
10:22 while yes bastion does play well and how he plays while playing towards the opponents weaknesses is smart it can't always be done since unlike real life, where people in tournaments will usually play meta decks, and you can add cards to counter them that's not really possible in the anime nor manga(all the time)
Since usually a new rival appears, and they never play staple cards, characters just have a deck and they are flexible. Bastion could only make a deck to counter his opponents if they were from duel academy. Otherwise he would just have his six elemental deck and decides just before the duel or if he has knowledge of the element, whether because he saw the duel or he knows through some other way like in his duel with chazz, chazz commented something about "charing his deck with his Flames of malice" so he chose the water deck to counter his fire attribute monsters
im ok with the "Superpower" thing, cause theyre heroes
YEAH! I personally though it was neat unique and adorable that they did that lol. Very fitting, then again I'm a big Hero archetype fanboy lol
Ill be honest, for whatever reason, I will never forget that tennis episode.

I STILL want an actual holo-projector just for card games
This theory goes out the window in the very first episode of DM, when Kaiba tears grandpa's Blue-Eyes in half like regular paper. Also, in the Waking the Dragons filler arc, Raphael's cards become worn out after they fall in the water, but work on the Duel Disk just fine.
At the end of the day, the cards are made of Plot Devicium, a material that is just as durable or frail as the story needs it to be.
@@patchmoulton5438 With the new virtual reality headsets we don't even need a duel disk...but I gotta admit, it still would be nice.
That makes too much sense

"Scorpion Slice"
Wait... AN UNCENSORED KNIFE!
I remember all those episodes. I've been rewatching this series over and over again when I was a kid.
Yea, this is why Syrus feels like he cannot use it - because he fears he'll do the same mistake again, and he always assumes Zane looks over his shoulder to judge him
"A pharaoh who actually doesn't know how to play the game."
