As someone with naturally curly hair, her debut hair looks very natural to me! She was probably styling it with some kind of curl defining product (mousse, gel, etc) but pictures of her pre-debut show very very curly hair--often brushed out so it's a frizzy mess, but definitely natural curls! In music videos and a lot of promo, especially post-fearless, her hair looks more like it's being straightened and then re-curled; the curl pattern is very uniform and there aren't a lot of flyaways. I would imagine that years of straightening her hair and the passage of time just made the curls she had when she was younger relax into waves.
I have curly hair too and agree. There’s no way you can whip curly hair around like that and it not be a mess. She was definitely straightening it then curling it during fearless and speak now. And yeah heat damage / bleaching it definitely ruined her natural curl pattern which is why it’s not as curly now.
also from my experience as someone with curly hair- I bleached it and that was bad, I straightened it every day, and I undernourished myself for many years, which weakened my hair as well.
As an addendum to this there are some photos from debut era where it looks like she's wearing hair extensions for volume and her team might have also touched up less curly parts of her hair w heat styling, but I think it's *largely* her natural curls
In some interview snippet I saw of her, she said that had very very curly hair and used to straighten them out cause sometimes they were hard to manage which she was not so thrilled about in the beginning, but just as she was starting to accept the curls, they had naturally been loosing the curls and also her natural hair colour was changing slightly. As you said that could be because to years of styling them.
I appreciated the discussion on how Taylor’s body changes from 1989 to Rep would have had an impact on her performance outfit choices. With the pandemic and having had my first baby in the past 2 years, the slim fit clothes I used to wear just don’t work at all anymore, and it’s a tough thing to come to terms with. It was great to see Taylor eventually feel more comfortable embracing her curvier figure- she looks better than ever tbh.
@@jane_edits13. my comment was a little unclear. I was talking about my personal journey with weight gain (around the time of the pandemic) and how that has made me more able to relate to how Taylor might have been feeling about her figure when she came out of the 1989 years into the rep era.
I feel like her Eras Tour outfits deserves a whole video dedicated bc she is slaying! Dare I say, best tour outfits yet. Although, I appreciate 1989 being iconic & the enchantedness of Speak Now.
I watched this while extremely stoned last night and I went through a process of being jealous of your extremely clear skin, thinking you were a cyborg and then thinking you had a very calming voice. Just thought I would share, love your content
I would love to see a roast of the merch. I think it’d be fun. Maybe a merch ranking? I think we just have to talk about the problem that is Taylor’s merch.
I think the getaway car purple dress is the most interesting on rep because it looks sooo similar to her fearless stage dresses but with an edgier bozy blazer and I wish we could've seen her play with her own iconography like that more ala the lwymmd video
so true, I don't think it WAS a reference tho bc none of the rest of the looks were? if it was referential I'm guessing that was coincidental, seeing that getaway car also has nothing to do with fearless...maybe if she wore it for the love story/ybwm mashup I'd buy that
I know she was skinny durning the 1989 era but she was going through an Ed and yes she has long legs but I think her outfits just really fit the vibe of 1989 and the album
The best idea. Some friends were just talking ab this! I would this to all my friends! Id love to see ur opinion! If dont blame me doesn't make it i swear!! Lol its the song that brought me into the fandom. Became a swifie just as reputation was in its last year🥺
there were actually two versions of the dear John dress! she wore the blue version in Europe and Asia (February-March 2011) but switched to the purple one for the North American leg (May and onwards). The Eurasian leg had different outfits in general. Also, fun fact: there were two versions of the BTR dress, too: a tight one (with lots of cameltoe) and a looser one.
A new Swift fan here, but you half nailed it when you mentioned her size. If you have never had to recover from an ED, you may not understand the NEED to keep things neutral. I assume, as one who has recovered, that's why she chose outfits that she felt safe in as she probably was getting used to how her body looked. She would have still seen all the flaws and wanted to hide them as she got used to them. It's common to hide your new body until you feel safe with it. I know this video is a year old, but compare those looks to her ERAS Tour looks. She has embraced her body in a way she had yet to in Reputation. And looks amazing! 😊
When I think of outfits worn by Taylor on Tour, I think of the Gold dress from Sparks Fly and the WANEGBT ringleader outfit. That gold dress is her most iconic outfit she's ever worn, period. It's also the outfit I think of most when I see Taylor Swift.
The sparkly white bodycon (?) she wore during the 1989 tour is still one of my ultimate favourites, she was absolutely stunning, the prettiest of them all, lol. Only losing maybe to Red's "illusionist" outfit!
i became a die hard swiftie around the time reputation was released and the more i listen to it and understand what the era meant it becomes clear that it was not as iconic as other eras. im very attached to it but i know it’s not superior because bottom line she was playing a character.
Hi! Love your channel and how much thought you put into your videos :) A few things: Taylor did do the quick change during the Reputation Tour. It was right after Delicate/Shake it Off in the B stage. She takes off the rainbow dress (or the tide pod dress, or whichever variation she decided to do that night) and the bodysuit in which she sings the surprise song/DWOHT/Blank Space/Bad Blood etc is underneath. She puts the jacket with the patches over it during the surprise song and DWOHT and takes it off when she goes to the C stage :) The Speak Now dress that you said has been the subject of discourse bc people don't know if it's purple or blue... it's both! There's two dresses: the purple she wore in the American leg of the tour and the blue she wore in the European leg I believe. That's why in some pics it looks purple and in others it looks blue: there's one of each! Love both of them but the purple's my favorite, and her moment with the dress, the high note in Dear John and the fireworks... iconic. My fav tour looks and my fav tour overall are also Speak Now. There's just so many beautiful and iconic looks. The gold dress with the red electric guitar she used in Mine is so iconic. The only thing that I hate is the fact that she wore flats with the long Enchanted dress; the dress is so pretty but the flats make me hate the whole thing. Still love every single look we got from this tour though.
I did not like the Out of the Woods leotard. It felt endless and the sequins or whatever is on it felt clumpy. But I do respect it. A lot of her outfits on the 1989 tour were kind of bad. Half were great, half were bad. I did love the darker colors of the rep tour but that is also more of the color scheme I like.

Getting to see what was up while you praised/dragged it was helpful for my brain. (would LOVE a guitar video)
OG, swiftie here. The curly hair is her natural curl. I remember seeing an interview that, in order to make it look more polished they would take a spiral curling iron and touch up any frizzy pieces. But yeah definitely her natural curl
9:09 I swear this dress is to the Swifties what the gold and white or black and blue dress was to the whole internet. I think it’s purple although it does look blue in certain lighting.
I adore Treacherous outfit from Red Tour. Yeah, it’s simple but very beautiful. And this outfit has already become kinda iconic (or is it just in my head? lol 😅)
(Regarding debut hair) I vaguely remember an article talking about how she would spend three hours curling her hair. It’s clearly enhanced with product and hot tools. There was also something else in the article about John Mayer and Jessica Simpson, so that tells you when this time period was 😂 I want to say it was seventeen magazine or teen vogue..
Excited to watch the video! I just thought, you could do something like this except reviewing ways that she changed songs on tour idk maybe that's too niche XD
I would like to see an analysis of the album speak now, to be prepared for the release of Taylor's Version (can't wait) btw i don't understand why you don't have more subscribers
oooooh noted!! I will definitely do an album breakdown when she FINALLY announces that it's coming out. or maybe I'll just do one for fun? I also don't understand....but then again, I do. I'm making niche content over here lmao
Of the 'concert' stuff she did for Lover, the outfits were really bad for the most part. That one yellow and neon outfit she had for iHeartRadio's show was so awful.
dude i HATEEEEED that outfit!!! i feel like it had so much potential but i couldn't understand why she chose that plain yellow tshirt. it just looked so weird
I’m wondering, what type of dress would you have liked to have seen for the song Dress on the Rep tour? I love that song so much, but I’m not especially fond of the outfit she chose, especially as the dress is so integral to the song’s narrative. I like the pseudo quick change at the end though.
UGHHHH A GOWN....A BEAUTIFUL GOWN....I actually didn't mind the chiffon-esque, see through moment that she put on I just wish it was a bit more decadent. perhaps a sparkle or two. the rep costumes were just so incredibly bland
@@theswiftologist yep, agree that gown moment would have been great for Dress. I’m imagining black wedding dress vibes. On a second look, I’ve decided that it’s the shoes which really kill the Dress tour look for me. They’re super chunky statement shoes, which I guess fit the Rep era, but they take away from what I feel ought to be a very feminine moment in the set.
I’ve seen Taylor on one tour and it was Speak Now. And I’ll never forget it! It really was a very well planned out tour with lots of great aesthetic elements! For me the fav outfits are the purple dress (lol I disagree that it’s blue but in some lighting it did look it), the gold fringe one (I love the pairing with the red guitar. I also have the same shirt you are wearing in this vid (I’d argue it’s the best tour shirt, but I don’t think you are factoring in audience member fashion, lol.) One thing that’s not clear to me- are you ranking the tour outfits or the tour on the whole? Also have you been to every tour? Correct me if I’m wrong but I do not recall there being a quick-change on that tour.
Hard agree with most of your thoughts!!! Rep def suffered, as did red I remember being annoyed by the lack of skirts and dresses and ybwm was the best outfit for sure
Hot take: I am not a fan of her bodysuits. I prefer her in dresses and gowns and such. I feel like she's so much prettier in like the fearless flapper dresses and the speak now gowns but also the red like jeans and regular clothes
I have curly/wavy hair, and my take on Taylor's hair is that it is naturally curly, but because of the damage (straightening and blowouts) she's put through, it would take a lot of work to get it to its natural texture again. During the Fealess era, I suspect she used rollers to add volume and maybe some curl cream, but because of how frizzy (no hate, frizz is great), I doubt she used any gel. For Speak Now, it was a little more tame, so I'm thinking she used some heat. This is a speculation, I'm not an expert.
I used to have that Speak Now shirt but I can’t find it 😩😩😩 Instead I have a yellow Fearless one that I’m waaaay too pale to pull off 🥸 I’ll still try though 💅🏻

I just think Speak Now tour was a masterpiece! I wasn't a fan when she was touring it (and did it even come to the UK?) but watching the DVD years later made me a fan. The storytelling, the costumes, the production value!!! It's also the album I can listen through with almost no skips (just Speak Now, unfortunately)
I remember reading back during either debut or fearless era, she said in an interview she "just touches up her curls a bit". I'm not sure if that means she curls it or just styles it. also in the fearless liner notes, there was a picture of her and abi in high school and she had straight hair. not that means anything because she could have easily just straightened it that day. but looking at her pre-famous pictures, it seems like she did have curly hair as like a toddler but it straightened out a bit to a more wavy texture as she got older, which makes me think she did give her curls some extra umph to make a more signature style.
Talking about all over the place, one thing i find annoying about red tour is that she kept changing her hairstyle throughout the tour. It makes it so hard to watch a fan-made dvd cause her hair (and her clothes) changes every 5 seconds.
My main critique with the lucky one dress, was that I wish that it was a full on dress and she didn't wear like bicycle shorts with it. And I wish that she did more with her hair, like with rollers, tying in with the vintage visuals, but I see how that's not really realistic for a show. And the cut of the dress seemed a bit off, like it didn't suit her.
The gold leotard would look much better on today’s healthier weight Taylor. The black leather looks “off” because she’s straight up and down with no curves.
This was SO FUN! I love when you talk taylor fashion on the pod too. My top five are 1) sparks fly gold dress 2) purple getaway car outfit 3) the treacherous bubble skit piece 4) dear john purple number 5) the green dancing with our hands tied look/style silver dress but yeah speak now looks were god tier
I know that 1989 is not a good health time for her, but during that time she truly had a model’s body. There were some things she could have worn that she didn’t. I wasn’t a fan of super fitted stuff because her body wasn’t great during that time. I am a very old Swiftie and was a size 0 for years (but I ate a lot - that eating caught up with me in my 30s), and I learned that yes, clothes hang beautifully and you can wear cool designer clothes many others can’t, so I feel it was a lost opportunity. We know from her modeling work that she looks amazing in everything, but the super tight body suits didn’t do her any favors. I am LOVING her Eras Tour outfits. She finally nailed it. Those dreamy dresses, the design of the bodysuits, she spent some money and it shows.

tea!!!! I need to get creative with it…I’m manifesting that for me too thanks queen
What did you think of 'The Lucky One" long flowy dress?
Meh
Do you think she will ever go on tour again???
such a good question but I have no idea the answer to it
@@theswiftologist I really hope she does.. I only got to go to 1989
I remember reading back during either debut or fearless era, she said in an interview she "just touches up her curls a bit".
Girl, I know Ur working Ur ass off with serving us content, but when is a new podcast episode coming out? I'm starving pls
Next week
@@theswiftologist omg thank the lord jesus 🙌
could you please make a video on the setlist of her tours
Who's here after The Eras Tour?
Please rank her guitars and also pianos
the red outfits live in my head rent-free
I think all reputation outfits and aesthetic slayed tbh, actually better than 1989.
Do you mind me asking your experience meeting Taylor? Such a great video :)
I'm gonna make a video about it real soon :))
@@theswiftologist Yay! :D
wait you should rank her different era hair
I would love to see a video where Taylor albums are ranked from gayest to least gay (in a cool way, not a dumbass Kaylor way)
LMAOOOO THE LAST PART
Love your videos so much as per usual!!! I agree with reputation - she had so much potential!
♥️♥️♥️
do this for eras!
Girl u colorblind because that “blue” speak now dress is PURPLE and the “pink” style dress is PURPLE
Talking about all over the place, one thing i find annoying about red tour is that she kept changing her hairstyle throughout the tour. It makes it so hard to watch a fan-made dvd cause her hair (and her clothes) changes every 5 seconds.
I REALLY LOVE TAYLOR BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT HER SENSE OF FASHION IS KINDA..... 😃
it do be.................unique
What’s up with the sound and video?
Video idea: Taylor Connect 101
Me ! Music video really really ruined Lover. 😢
You need to calm down too
Taylor connect fam! Wow I feel old now ✨
That white 1989 2-piece with the black boots with garter straps… ugh. Thank you. I too had a ‘ew’ moment and I still don’t like it.
I’m sorry but the out of the woods leotards we’re terrible lol
fearless= flapper dress
visual album for reputation is such a good idea omg
U didn’t talk about the lucky one and treacherous outfit from the red tour
Cuz they were boring
My main critique with the lucky one dress, was that I wish that it was a full on dress and she didn't wear like bicycle shorts with it. And I wish that she did more with her hair, like with rollers, tying in with the vintage visuals, but I see how that's not really realistic for a show. And the cut of the dress seemed a bit off, like it didn't suit her.
Have you heard about recent rumors that TS10 is coming 14th or 15th April? what you think about that?
I don’t believe anything anymore
The gold leotard would look much better on today’s healthier weight Taylor. The black leather looks “off” because she’s straight up and down with no curves.
Let’s just pray she doesn’t do a lover tour, I don’t even want to begin to imagine the outfit choices…
🙏🏻
Hello swiftologist aaaaaa😭
Hello Gabriel
make a video on overated songs
My most cancellable video…
@@theswiftologist lol
This was SO FUN! I love when you talk taylor fashion on the pod too. My top five are 1) sparks fly gold dress 2) purple getaway car outfit 3) the treacherous bubble skit piece 4) dear john purple number 5) the green dancing with our hands tied look/style silver dress but yeah speak now looks were god tier
Sparkle gold dress in its rightful spot
Only if you knew…
