I talk about hiking food and what I take out on the trail with me when I go hiking. I dehydrate my own meals at home and rehydrate them when I get to camp. I have 572 grams of food per day. So for this seven day trip my total food weight is 4,004 grams for 7 days which I am very happy with. I pack similar food for overnight hikes, just less quantity.
The pre packaged hiking meals I use here upset my tummy a bit. I now use Radix a brand from NZ made for athletes and packed with protein.

I am also a huge fan of drip filter coffee Laughing pug they gave me a discount KATE10 to share if you wanna try it

Very good. Couscous is very good. Lots of different flavours. No cooking just pour in some hot chicken stock or veg stock and leave to absorb. Tasty, hot meal if you add pepperami or cheese or jerky.

@@KateGrarock Also Kate, be good to do something for those of us who battle allergies, including food ones. Lots of those pre dehydrated commercial foods are loaded with MSG and dried fruit loaded with sulphur. Makes for an unpleasant hiking experience. I swelled up like a balloon doing the Overland track due to MSG in Vesta meals many years ago. Sounds like you deal with similar stuff! Don't think anything exists on packing/ preparing to deal specifically for allergic hikers! Could be a UA-cam hit.

Thanks mate these days I mostly use the special coffee filters on the shorter trails as they are easy and yum. I always pack these out. The cowboy coffee It depends on the location. In wilderness areas I will pack out. But on other hikes I scatter the grind or dig a hole and bury the small amount of leftover coffee grinds. I just try to make sure whatever I do it’s not visible.
