Dear Cedric, I feel for you and your family. So, so much.
My son is off to study biology in September. Marine biology. After his high school graduation, we found out he had cancer. Now he's approaching 21, and at this point in time, he's considered in remission.
This afternoon, I'm going to plant a pollinator in my garden, and will plant another in its place each summer. And each time I'll see the bees enjoying it playfully, I'll know it's there because of a boy, an ocean and a continent away, who had a dream. And it lives on... ❤
Cried reading this. As a cancer survivor at roughly the same age, I know your son’s struggle, and I’m so proud of him for fighting. And knowing he’s out continuing Austin’s own work fills me with joy and purpose. Please thank him for me, and thank you for your mission in pollinating. This is so lovely, and your final sentence broke and remade me all at once. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🤍

@@CedricGegel1 First, thank you for your kind words. I'm glad I was somehow able to bring you a very small measure of comfort. You should see how the bees enjoy the three little plants I added to my garden yesterday. I renew my promise to you, to be a guardian of Austin's legacy.

I feel your pain. I lost a brother too before I left the Philippines and moved to the US to be with my husband. He left an 8 year old son and his 2 months pregnant wife. His sudden death was a big blow to all of us, his families and friends specially since it happened 2 weeks after the golden wedding anniversary celebration of our parents. I pray that you and your family find peace and healing for your brother, Austin’s passing.

Hi Cedric, my condolences. I know how hard this will have been for your family and close friends and you have prayers from different denominations; but we agnostics, whilst spiritual, also feel a kinship with you all at this horrendous time. Grief and despair can last for decades (I speak for myself) and still have not been able to let go and every day is another torture. You have the love of God and your Fellowship in the community and I hope He helps you to come to terms with this sad passing. I can only offer comfort in a spiritual way and hope you are not offended. My very best wishes for the months ahead.

Cedric, So sorry to hear about your brother Austin's passing. I know how difficult that can be to lose a loved one. One of my sisters died last year. It was devastating and traumatic for our entire family. Austin had completed his mission here on earth. It was God's appointed time for him. I'm sure his memory and legacy will be kept alive through his work and passions, family, friends and others. May God provide comfort, peace, and love for you and your family that surpasses all understanding and that only He can provide. Like myself, the pain may never go away but carrying on those things that your loved one was really passionate about can make a difference. I will pray for you and your family.

Cedric, I hope there is comfort in knowing that although your earthly relationship with Austin has ended, your relationship continues on spiritually. My brother died in an accident when he was 31 and I was 29. That was 24 years ago. The grief never goes away, and it will become softer over time. You and your family and those who love Austin are in my prayers and I extend my heartfelt condolences.
