Hey Alex, as I said in a previous video, big fan. Just a small suggestion: maybe play with bigger time control (10 minutes), not because you can't finish your opponents in time (you obviously can), but because I really enjoy you going over the lines and my endgame really, REALLY sucks so watching your thought process there would help me a lot and you often have to rush because you spent all the clock on the opening and middle game (which I love, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the endgame as well).
Your laid back style and throwing in the funny references here and there make you my favorite chess content creator. With Jobava London videos i am able to beat much higher rated opponents, getting allegations of sandbagging and cheating 😂😂😂
Hi @Alex. I just wanted to stop by and tell you that thanks to your videos showing me the Jobava London and Caro Khan I have made it to 1101! I am so happy. The games are often quite interesting and fun as I try to remember all the counter moves, and occasionally making some up, as my oponent's try and crush the Caro Khann. In fact, in the game that got me to 1101, I forked the opponent's Queen as he played black f6, e5, f5 w/ me countering dex5. Oh the joy as just a couple moves later he brought his queen out where I moved Nd5... he then sidestepped with Qe6... the smiles broke out as I recalled your comment in one of your previous videos... "Oh boy!".... hahaha Check... resign. Yessss!!!! Thanks for the great content and smiles... Next target up, 1200.
Alex, I can't begin to thank you for this unbelievable Jobava lesson. I have been playing the classical London for a few months with some success since many players of my rating seem to panic after D4. I can always tell because their reply usually takes more than 30 seconds. After going through these games with the Kc3 approach I have STUNNED opponents into resignation sometimes after just a few moves. It is an absolutely comfortable and solid system that packs a devastating attack especially if Black Castles King side. I would like to add that I thoroughly enjoy your sneaky sense of humor and i find myself laughing out loud at some of your quips. Keep up the great work and good luck in your future matches!!!👑
Another option to deal with bf4... If you can get your knight to e5 via f3, then you can push g4. Lots of players under 1000 miss the fact that the knight can capture backwards or that the queen is also covering g4. This is in the Daniel Naroditsky/Bortnyk Jobava course. Love the content Alex!
I finally got the jobaba queen "sacrifice" trick on D5 thanks to you. It was very satisfying as i ended up ahead a couple of pawns. Thanks for the videos!!!! I really like them, and your humor too.
Great metaphors. They make it much more playful and rewarding to play. I'm sure by now you learned that that fork was a skewer. Like one of those BBQ things that pin the bits of food down to cook
4:21 This is essentially the position David Howell had against Garry Kasparov(Kasparov went c6 instead of a6) and Howell pushed to g5 and Garry put his knight back on g8. it’s the model game in simon Williams’ Jobava course and it plays out so many times for me in this exact position. The point being that the Jobava system kinda works no matter the skill level
@@AlexBanzea It was the first time that Kasparov had ever seen the Jobava and he essentially played these first same 8 or so moves like in the first game in the video except he went 3…c6, 4…Bf5 instead but landed in the same position as in the video after move 8
Guys, that video caption is absolutely not clickbait. I sacked my knight on the h file and the game review indeed scored it as a brilliant move! !!. !!!. Scored my first 1600 game score, which, as a 700 rated blitz player, up against a 1000 elo dude, is quite an accomplishment. Also, that 10 move checkmate against the kings Indian is dropping jaws in chat and over the board. Lol. You’re brilliant Alex, we adore you you little squirt
Thanks Alex!. Excellent! Love the under-promotion to a Knight with a check and the special trap at the end of the video. When should we expect the course to be be released?
I love your videos ! The modern Jobava London against Bf5 is no longer f3 but placing your knight on e5 instead. Anyway I hope you can do a chessable video course which I will certainly purchase
Imagine my surprise, as a player who prefers tactics and open positions, that I would find a home with d4 opening?! And so as I study, of course c5, a5 and the KID offer the most trouble to the d4 nc4 bb4 line. This update to IM Alex's study is crucial for my study and a perfect intermediate study. Thanks so much for your teachings, as the Caro-Kann and The Jobava seem excellent companions, and my win rate has indeed gone up. Question: have IM Banzea ever taught or favored the Catalan? It seems pretty strong as an e4 option...
This video is super useful to me. Very often I do face black's h5 move in this variation and I do get good games, but going forward will be looking for an opportunity to do that epic knight sac! 💪
In the light squared bishop trade on d3, Danya recommends taking with the pawn to stack the pawns in the center and take away e4 and c4 from black's knight. I think both options are valid.
Love your content, thanks for the time and effort. We know you like the London as white, check , Caro as black against e4, check, but nothing against d4 as black? I watch a ton of your videos but I can't recall one that features your preferred response as black to d4. Also, your Scotch Gambit video was awesome, a little more of that would be pretty cool.
Playing the Jobava Against the Benoni, one of the reasons for Be2 or h3 instead of Nf3 is there is a pretty nice plan of going Nf3->Nd2->Nc4 and getting some solid pressure and causing problems for black. Often you will get a5 in and cement a knight on b6 via Nc3->Na4. It is worth looking at.
Alex, they call it a skewer, as I have heard it. Like that thing that goes in the kabob. You should start shouting "kabobs for lunch!" when the skewer happens. Instant "The Rook!!" moment. You're welcome!
@37:51 It's not obvious why a6 after Rxd7 doesn't win the piece back. Computer gives nice variation after Rxd7 a6 but in short time control there's no way a human wouldn't play Bxd7+, right?!?!
Wait in the first game 2:16: When opponent plays Kc6, and threatens to go down to the fork ar c2, you say that you would go e4, but then black eats the pawn at e4 with his pawn on d5 and suddenly you have a shit position, as Kxe4 looses material. Black pawn on e4 blocks any attack launched from d3 and you will loose the game. What am I overlooking?
Alex: What is the line you have shown a few times in the Caro Kann (where you lose 12 times in a row special haha) where you end up either using a fianchetto king side and also sometimes even capturing with the g7 pawn, which create sort of these weird blockade of pawns? Thanks, and thanks for all your work you teach. You are one of the better ones out there. Also, I really like how you have added the preview of a move that could have happened in recent videos.
Assuming I go down this line as black, I'm looking to exploit white's airy kingslide. After 11.g6 I play Be7. gxf+. now your own pawn is blocking your attack. You have to play O-O-O, or Bxh5+, winning back the pawn and forcing you to move your K. I play Bxh5 anyway, winning back the pawn and leaving your kingside completely open and me with a passed pawn backed by my rook. Next comes g5, and where is your B going? If e5. NxB, dxe5, Ne6 f5 ... or c5 with tempo on the Q. Now you Q has to abandon that diagonal and retreat to cover your f pawn; then NxBe5. dxe, Nc6; f5 gxf; exf. Dunno, that's as far as I can calculate, but I think I'm better
You face many good players on these rankings. Do you think there is one thing that separates them from reaching higher ELO? You can say time, but plenty of players with a few thousand games are stuck on basically the same ranking.
if anyone is still wondering about that I think I can add something here. First of all, a good player can spot good moves and knows his openings pretty well but fails to spot tactics that occur after certain moves. This is the domain of a great player crucial on higher ELOs because having a deep understanding of the position that you will find yourself in after a certain move is the number one skill that will push your ELO rating.
lol in game 2 it took me so long to realize he’s saying chameleon. Sounded like Cam-e-lon😂 anyway, vid 3 asking Alex for a coaching sesh for my journey to 2k! I play the normal London tho
Someone had to teach him how to say the word right because even if you're English can be improved at least learn how to say what you say all the time correctly. 😅
Do you ever plan to show playing some people around your level and show your thought process? Plus, I'd like to see you challenged every now and then haha.
I have a doubt. After g4 , then can play Nxg4 ,then pawn takes g4 ,qh4 check, ke2,bxg4 ,where ever the king mores our queen is gone. Please help me with that knight sac line.
Just FYI, but whenever you start flexing on your opponents with just seconds on your clock, while it's really fucking cool aye, just letting you know that once you reach that stage of the games, I never learn anything any more no matter how calm you try to be lol. I'll be impressed by the moves but there is just too much tension in the air for me to ever really properly follow :D

I think it’s a d4 opening, not e4. And it’s considered to be a bit too complicated for beginners I heard.
