  • Here is an overview and install of the Trax luggage system from Sw-Motech for the BMW S1000XR.
Would like to say thank you to Sw-Motech for sending me this system for review. I very much look forward to future projects
Be sure to check out this amazing adventure luggage system, and the other great products they have to offer. I have used their equipment for many years, on various different bikes, and am very impressed not only with design, but also the high quality of gear!

    Hi there-
I have a set of Trax on my R1200R LC and they take out too much space for a passenger to keep their feet on the pegs. I love the bags, but cannot use them with a pillion. How much room is there for the passenger foot pegs on your set up with the s1000xr?

Was fine on the XR, plenty of room! You bike is a smaller bike mind

The ability to remove the frame work is brilliant. The assembly video at the great was fascinating, nice video TLR.

Sooooooooooooooo...I got me one. No accessories yet. Had the racks taken off. The first 40 miles were unreal. (Although I kept it under 7000 rpm)

I'm a big fan of SW Motech luggage systems. Top quality and great design. Just fitted their Blaze panniers, city tank bag and satnav support on my MT10 ready for my Alps trip in June. (crappy vid on my channel). Those boxes look great on the Beemer, have you tried them out at high speed yet? Reason I ask is, my previous Versys 1000 used to get a bit of a speed wobble on when going fast (faster than the legal limit) with it's luggage.

yeah its great kit, I've used their gear one all my bikes over the years. They recommend a max loaded speed of 130kph, I rode that yesterday with no problem at all, and didn't notice that they were on rhe bike. Handles very well with them mounted too, the bike still felt rock solid

      Thanks Ashton
The Jacket is the Rukka PAIJANNE
With Rukka stretch trousers. It'll be an older model now, I've had this suit for a good six years. Probably not in the shops any more, but you could be lucky and find it online. They make great gear and worth the investment!

For the topcase is the standard BMW case holder needed? Because I'm buying an S1000XR with all the packs and there is , as you know, in the touring pack holders included.

Swmotech sell rear racks to fit the topcase, with or without the BMW rear rack.

Good video mate and fantastic equipment but sorry don't like em on the bike, as you said personal taste a bit like Marmite.
Did seriously consider them for mine but in the end bought the same quick lock rack system but went for Givi/Kappa 33 litre panniers and painted the lids red. Personally hate panniers and prefer a good roll bag but sometimes they're a necessary evil and at least with the quick lock racks they're easy to remove and get the bike looking good again.

Its exactly that! great gear for long touring, keeps everything clean and dry, easily accessible, and quickly removable should you not need to use them. Although looks is important, these are designed more in the way for function and practicality, although I think they've done a good job with the looks. I own a lot of their equipment, and have done for many years, and on many different bikes. Best around in my opinion!! thanks for watching and taking the time to comment

Hi Shaun, have just ordered some black Bumot panniers for the GSA from the Adventure Bike Shop; riding down to pick them up on Saturday. The black ones look nice on your bike as they contrast well with the red colouring. Cheers, Andy

Nice fit on the bike for the panniers I must say. I own a super tenere which had the oem panniers std delivered with the bike, they're quite ok, nicely aligned with the bike (exhaust space cut out from left pannier) but they're not that strong and big as the trax adv panniers.. I already bought the sw-motech trax topcase and will replace the Yamaha oem panniers with sw-motech track adv panniers next spring to go on an adv tour.
What I don't like is all the mounting plates on your bike for the topcase.. you first have your standard bmw rack, then you mount the sw-motech rack on top of it, then also the adapter plate and on all of that finally the topcase. sorry but it looks ugly to me..
I chose to replace the Yamaha std rack with an sw-motech steel rack and with only 4 adaptors screws (or how you call these) fitted directly onto the steel plate, the topcase directly mounts to it.
I don't understand why sw-motech chooses to use an adapter plate between their alu-rack and their trax topcase instead of mounting it directly onto the alu-rack..
Thanks again for your detailed review video, also part 2 with the accessories! Exactly what I need to decide for my next purchase.

I like how they've design the fixings on the Rear rack, the adaptor plate is quick release which enables me to switch between adaptors depending on what I want to mount on the rear rack, wether it be the Trax top or their soft luggage, I like it's versatility in that respect. Yes it's an item to add, but being quick release I really don't find it am issue. Although looks is important to me, practicality is key so how the rear rack looks when using this system on a long tour becomes fairly irrelevant, but thats just my opinion. I'm glad the videos helped you to make your decision, and thank you for taking the time to comment. Ride safe 👍

    • @AMPJ08

oh good. Well your solution seemed ok for me. I mean the soft bag on the pillion seat I am sure it saves weight compared to the boxes which themselves also have a weight. I would still keep the side BMW ones or any other due to aerodynamics. In fact I did also got the small top case from BMW which seems also ok.
these hard cases already have a weight so heavier ones don't appeal to me specially squared ones.

Awesome luggage solution, looks fab. Love the bike but just cannot get my head round the fact that BMW of all people let it out of the cage with vibe issues. You would think they would repay you for your investment in the bar end weights. Anyway got a year still to think about it before I decide on my bike of my dreams and hope they get the problem factory sorted by then. Anyway how is it like comfort wise to ride for long miles?

    • @thelikeablerider8800

Don't get too caught up in this "Vib" issue, I for one watched too many videos on it before buying mine, which was a mistake!! Take one out and see what you think. Comfort is fine on longer rides, haven't had a problem.

Decided against the tiger 1050 and going for S1000xr instead. Two test rides today 😁.Only decision now is the red or white. The white one has the akrapovic exhaust already on it. Only saw this video now but that was the same exhaust system I was going to go for. Very nice

They come with a locking nut to replace one of the quick release nuts that attach the frame to the bike. I'm pretty sure it uses the same key as the panniers. Quick and secure.
