Good video BUT on higher shots he is falling on his elbow every time which is not correct technique and that is how you injure your shoulder short and long term. You stop sliding on ground and all the stress is on the shoulder. Also dangerous for the elbows and risk to spill the ball.
GIANLUCA TEMPERINI he actually does slide when he catches the ball, its not easy to slide when you fall from a stance on your knee. In terms of the landing its more what you feel comfortable with. I prefer to land on my hip now but when i was starting out I used to prefer landing with my elbow slightly tucked to protect my hip bone. Injuries happen if you hit the ground at the wrong angle or too hard, thats why you shouldn’t just jump right into diving from a fully upright stance if you’re just starting out
Ngl this was the main reason I didn't become a goalkeeper. I really loved the idea of being a goalkeeper but there were no good goalkeeper coaches where I live and was never shown how to dive correctly. To this day I still hate diving😂

You cant be goalkeeper or play soccer if you afraid of pain or something always hurt you, i play proffesional football and i never complain on pain. No pain no gain
Cuz I goalie since 10 years. I started 5 years old and in the first 5 to 7 years it is relly really going to hurt mostly hips and rips but believe me don't stop the pain is worth it and one more tip on high dives, DON'T NEVER EVER LAND ON YOUR SHOULDER OR ELBOW FIRST HAHAHA
You should keep working on your diving form. If your hips touches the ground first you'll eventually feel the pain. Another option is to incorporate rolling off after you dive. It allows you to have more control of your body.
I’m loving these tutorials, I’m trying my hardest to become a goalkeeper at the moment, I have a couple goalkeeping videos on my channel, I’m getting better every day by watching you!
@@salemismail2226 I still practice goalkeeping, but I realised I was more of a defender and played better in that position. Though, I decided to switch career paths, because I’ve always loved English in school and books and writing. So right now I’m now an author in progress, but I wouldn’t mind playing as a goalkeeper in school football.
For anyone who knows anything on the subject...I play goalie, and have been doing so for over a year (I am currently in the teenage years). Diving has been one of my stronger aspects, although I frequently deal with abrasions, bruises, etc on my arms (primarily elbows), lower sides of torso, and knees. I have tried long sleeves and lightweight padding (in order to not prohibit movement), and still have issues. My question is that is there a way of diving (more importantly, the landing) that is smooth and natural that won’t interfere with performance at all? Thanks
This is very, very late so I'm assuming you know already but I would recommend when landing, you should be fully extended (arms all the way out body straight) this activates your lats and will make the landing painless.
Tubigrip over elbows heps a little. Don't go crazy buying heavily padded shorts and jerseys, these can restrict your movement. Treat these abrasions and bruises as a right of passage. As you gain more experience and continue to develop, the type of pitches you play on will improve as you move up the leagues. Safe hands! 🙌
When I play with me mates, i usually go in goal as im the best goal keeper but im no expert. However, when you're in a match, all that adrenaline and excitement makes you very alert and focused on the ball and the dives dont hurt. As long as you're on grass or artificial grass, you are fine.
As a american football trying to be a good goalie catching the ball is easy for me bc as a qb we catch the shotgun snap, but anyways thanks for teaching me how to dive
I've been truly improving lately, but whenever I dive I hurt my hips from the sides. Today we played for a longer period than usually and I had to save multiple shots on my left, which is why now I'm home and feeling pain in my left hip bones, I truly love goalkeeping but I fear injuring myself to the point where I can't continue, are there any equipment that can protect me?
Also might want to tweak your dives. If your dive the way he says ull hurt urself way more, u dive the way he actually does it'll hurt way less. To explain when he is explaining the dives he indicates that you point your leg at 45° then you dive at 45°, when he does anything at pace he points at 45° then dives at 60° or higher. The main difference is when you fold over your leg the gap between cushion and the ground is how much u can bend ur leg, if you go more sideways u can gradually cushion with ur whole leg not just ur hip, arm, or ribs.

Good stuff...the last few dives I'd probably have my keepers move their arms forward once the have possession so when you land, the elbows are right in front of your chest/stomach instead of underneath the body and possibly knocking the wind out of you or hitting the ribs. You WERE doing that earlier so you obviously know your stuff! Those shots that "jamb' you as you start to dive are so frustrating...I feel like alot of players get hurt on those by landing on their elbows as much as they do trying to extend...
@@ryanreed2146 Honestly man all it takes to get comfortable on your weak side is repetition. The progression from lying on your side, to knees, to feet is a good place to start for getting better on your weak side.
Hey, small comment. The way you describe and demonstrate your dives is different than how you dive. When you go at your slowest speed and sorta the way you describe it, you point ur leg/foot at 45° then dive over your leg at 45°. The second you put any speed into it you start point your leg at 45° and diving at 60°+ degrees so you fold next to your leg.
