This is a long story. But I want to share my story of what the Luke & Laura love story meant to me with other fans. You are the only ones who can understand.
When I was 13 almost 14 years old, I was seriously hurt in an accident and started being “home schooled” (before that was a thing). We didn’t have 2000 channels back then to choose from. There were 7 TV stations to choose from. That’s how I started watching GH. I think it was right after Laura & Scotty got married. I didn’t watch it religiously, maybe 2-3 times a week. That was until the Luke & Laura story started. (By then I was completely recovered. However I graduated early and was no longer in school). I was (legally) too young to get a job. So I was glued to the TV every weekday. When I did start working, I was so stressed about missing GH & L & L (I wish I had those kinds of stress now 🙄) So with my first 3 paychecks I bought my first VCR. It took 3 paychecks because that machine cost $400!! But it was so worth it. I’d do it again.
I didn’t watch GH as often when L & L left in 1984.
< I quit watching altogether when Tony Geary came back as Bill Eckert >.
I began watching again when L & L came back in 1993.
I watched off & on thru the years. I wasn’t happy when Luke fell in love with Tracy. But my “breaking point” came when Luke chose Tracy over Laura. It was ok when Genie/Laura was not on the show. But when she came back - there’s no way that would have happened. Not with everything they had been through and all of their history. GH made we fans fall in love with L & L. Then expect us to accept them apart. Not just apart - but Luke choosing anyone over Laura. It just wouldn’t happen. The last episode I watched was when L & L signed their divorce papers. When Laura looked up at Luke in his apartment - I felt like someone I cared about died. I cried like a baby. That was it for me. Thank you for letting me share
I was 18 and out of work. That's how I got hooked. None of us can accept all the implausible rewrites. Only LnL fans truly get each other. Thanks for sharing your story.

Hi The Real Grammy I loved your story. I agree with you 100%! You know the real L&L to the very core thank you so much for your info and insightfulness I read all of it. Me I have seen most of GH when I started to watch in1974 it was EPIC everyday of the week it came on. ..So damn cool I had two children at that time. Yes it was damn hard but I persived and got to watch most of GH. I do have to say ..sadly I don't watch GH at all anymore. I stoped watching around 2000-2001. I must have miss plenty??? I can relate. I was in P E class in 8th grade. The gym teacher insisted I try a gymnastics flip. I told her I couldn't do the flip. She said I had to attempt or I would get an F. So I did the flip and seriously sprained ankle. Doctors said it was worse than a break / fracture. The bruising was every color in rainbow and swollen. I needed water pills and crutches. Was off school for 3 weeks. Never had seen a soap before in my life. Got hooked on All My Children. Then about a yr later GH also. 14 yrs old I started watching right before the rape scene. Every summer glued to the screen to watch both. Then taped on VCR. They were so exciting. Getting hurt turned into years of entertainment. We became so involved w the characters and story lines they felt like family. Always something to talk about too w my friends, sister and Mom who all watched. My Mom was into Robert Scorpio and I was infatuated w Luke. Re watching these gives me great feeling and memories of being 13 14 15 again (and watched for many more yrs too) sitting w my friends watching all summer long. We felt so grown up too.
Luke is dead now, but Laura is still on the show. She has had some pretty good storylines since 2016. She is the mayor of Port Charles now and is a very strong woman. She is married to a Dr. and seems happy. Luke almost broke her in 2013, but she was too strong. In 2015 when Luke left, her daughter asked if she was going to go say goodbye and she told her she had said her goodbyes to Luke a long time ago. Such a shame that TG was so determined to not be remembered as part of the greatest supercouple that he felt the need to totally destroy Luke.
And here is the beginning of the Laura we loved. The Laura who was not afraid, was determined, was smart and was street-wise. This is the beginning of her changing into the Laura she probably always was before she tried to be who everyone else wanted her to be, including herself. This is when they reveal that Laura is attracted to Luke not because he's different from her but because she's a lot like him.

I know..right???!! It's so good. They have COMPLTELY lost the formula for good storytelling on current day GH.. they treat it like a movie of the week.. plot driven drivel.. that they then ignore the next story... but in the meanwhile they bastardize all the characters.. and then they think we should just ignore tons of stuff when it's convenient for them.. if ONLY they got back to character driven drama!!!
sussezq hell half the time on current GH, they move on from storylines before they resolve them and then they just pretend it never happened. This is the best GH has ever been, or ever will be, IMO.
They should take a page from Cobra Kai on Netflix! Show runners who are mega fans, who respect and love the source material and respect the characters and their history while bringing them forward to today!

Norma Connelly...what a great actress. She and TG's acting techniques seem quite similar. You get the sense they both did a lot of work imagining the histories of their characters. Accounts for the depth of their performances. I always enjoy scenes between Norma and Tony...they clearly loved their back-and-forth banter. Thanks for preserving these scenes and sharing them with the rest of us, sussezq.
My four favourite characters: Luke, Laura, Ruby and Bobbie! They will always be real to me, and I will never forget their contribution to this show. It's the only soap I ever got into. God Bless Tony, Genie and Jacklyn, and may Norma Connelly and Gloria Monti Rest in God's Peace!

Haha, "I always said there was a brain behind this incredibly homely face!" That's one of the many reasons Laura loves you, Luke. You knew she wasn't just a pretty face; she was pretty smart when left to her own devices. Norma and Jackie are fantastic here...love the backstory of the Spencers' childhood.
In junior high we all wore Cherokee wedge sandals 🤷♀
And we all had rings with a dangling charm like Laura wore.
Loved how well Luke and Laura worked together! That's why they were able to be on the run for 10 yrs.
Second time around watching the 79-80 storyline..so much more meaningful this time .thank you for sharing these treasured moments.
Little did Bobbie know that she would be the catalyst for fate to work its magic on Luke and Laura 🎉❤
@ShelliStuart Shelli, I remember, I went to great lengths to stay home for the wedding. Hot towel on the forehead and thermometer in the hot tea. Worked like a charm! My mom still doesnt know...lol

🥺🥺 Bobbie, you can only blame yourself fir igniting this star-crossed situation and bringing Luke and Laura into each other’s orbit. That said….🥺🥺🥺 it heartbreaking 💔 to see these two women who are Luke’s only family and who love him, grieving his ‘death’. Sibling relationships are precious, there’s a lot of only-children on soaps. Luke and Bobbie are special….makes me think of Luke and Leia from Star Wars!
Totally agree and I really like Bobbi although she's so hateful towards Laura for no apparent reason. Her jealousy is so petty and makes her look bad... It's good when she starts to grow out of it
Ty for these uploads they are magical.
Still hard for me to sympathize with Bobbi because I remember all the things she did to keep Scotty and Laura from getting together. But Ruby yeah she shouldnt have to go through it. Hate that Bobbi always blamed Laura for everything that went wrong in her life when most times she brought the stuff on herself. Watching these again still makes me wonder where Carly came from lol.
These two really played this so well.
PS as for TG/ Luke & GF/Laura there will never be a couple as EPIC as Luke & his Laura ever again! ..Now there where the best of the best!!!JMVHO! PEACE& LOVE Rosie!
I think Bobbie needs to think back further. Had she not tried to break up Laura and Scott, Luke would never have met Laura!
Everybody involved in this storyline was fantastic! The acting was superb!!
Ruby and Bobbie..literally forgot they were acting in these scenes.. the pain looked so real. What talent between these ladies. Jackie Zeman was just perfection.

Spencer clan; Ms Conolly, TG, Jz and then the addition of GF... all spectacular actors who took their work very seriously.. and we all benefitted. I will be forever in their debt for giving us such fantatstic entertainment.
I used to get off the bus after the ambulance would come out of the gate. So I always missed the opening scenes. But man, you couldn't talk to me! There was no "How was school?" conversation. I threw my books down and ran right to that TV.

I was lucky. I always walked in at like 2:58 sharp. Even my friends and Boyfriend started getting off at MY bus stop and fill my parents living room to watch Luke & Laura LOL.
@@yevettebamber4273 One time there was a crowd in the TV Section of the Department Store at the mall . . . it was 1979/1980, and nobody had a VCR back then. So if you were shopping at the mall . . . it was 3PM, you stopped wherever they sold TVs. There were all these people sitting on the floor of the store in front of the television console watching General Hospital. The store manager couldn't believe his eyes.
@@LuvTadnDixie LOL I believe it. Looking back I wish I had taken pic's of all the store marques on my way to work the day of the wedding!! Local drug stores, resturants, gas stations, ect all changed their signs. It's was all L&L!!! Congrats Luke & Laura on your big day, Luke & Laura are getting married today, Wedding of the century today at 3pm on ABC!!! Even my boss Who I was also dating at the time was floored. Up til then he thought I was the one who was crazy LOL.

HaHaHa, Luke hardly "let Scotty win". As justifiably enraged as Scotty was there was no way Luke would have won.
The opposite was true their second fight where Scotty had published the fact that Bobbi used to be a whore and Ruby her madame. Luke was seriously pissed... still, it was just a couple of punches and Luke left.

Bobbie slept with Scott while he was dating laura, brought luke to town to break them up, tried to get laura put in reform school, caused her to get in a car wreck, faked a pregnancy to still Scott, and Laura forgave her
And tried to be her friend but somehow it is all Laura's fault.... Bobbie you need help

I really liked the scenes between Bobbie and Robie. They're doing great jobs as actresses. Jackie Zeman is a great actress, and I wish that we could see that acting from her more often than what we get from current GH. Thanks for posting!

sussezq I just found these wonderful videos and have been binge watching, reliving so much from my childhood. I think I was about 12 when this all started with Luke and Laura and didn't get to watch every episode because I was in middle school but during the summer, I did nothing but wait until 2 pm. lol. I can't believe how "in love" with Luke I was and how much this whole rewatching experience brings me back to my childhood. Thank you so, so much for posting all of these!! I've been looking for these episodes for 30 years!!

I was lucky. GH was/is on here at 3... so I got off the bus at 3:15 and ran the block home... except during Field Hockey and Softball season.... I liked the winter!

NC and JZ are killing me here! When Bobbie fell to her knees and clutched to Ruby, when Ruby started screaming about not having a body to bury. Oh god.Phenomenal acting on their end! On TG & GF's end, too. People always ask how Bobbie could love Ruby because she was the madam of the brothel bobbie serviced, but you can't tell me Ruby didn't love Luke and Bobbie, & probably regretted that decision forever, but you gotta do what you gotta do at times.

Because I could be wrong, but I have this memory of Luke talking about how he and Bobbie hid out for weeks by themselves - eating rotten easter eggs or something, after their mom's death) until Ruby was able to take them in??
Yes. I remember Luke talking about that too. Inconsistently.
Yea that story was change a lot of times along the way till they said Luke actually killed them both
@@jackiefertik2141No, Luke didn't kill them both. When they changed the story years later, it was that the father killed the mother and beat Luke as a child and when the father killed the mother, Luke fought back and killed his father but got scared and hid the body. You know they always hide the body on soaps.
Yes, it was inconsistent, and was not long before this in the same story arc, Ruby could have said the day they came to her after their mother died I stead of the day their mother died and that would have been consistent, but Norma did such a tremendous job portraying the grieving aunt I forgive her inconsistency there!❤
I often wonder why they had a funeral for him, even though they had no body, but they never had a funeral for Laura when they thought she had drowned, and they had no body

Uncle Sam sent me to the Monterey Peninsula... the summertime there with the pea soup fog is cold like you would not believe.
Edit: Same weather as San Francisco and Samuel Clemens famously said "the coldest winter I've ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" lol because it's true!!

It is a line that shows his feelings for her:Luke was wet and freezing 🥶 and had no thought for himself, only worried since he was cold Laura must be too, and wanted her to stay warm!
Bobby you caused all this you bring luke into lauras orbit, you convinced laura not to go to Vagas. Luke pays the price has to marry jennifer. Bobby keeps causing the problems and blaming laura
That line was so cute because you know he thought she was beautiful... but I agree, he was just as taken with her mind... and the spencer back story was just fantastic.... that is what Ethan is so desperately missing if I am to give two ... about him!
Wow! This storyline is really good! Unfortunately, I was one of the ones who were not around to see these when they had first aired. Jease! I wish that soapnet would reair some of these older classic storylines, and just maybe, people would start tuning in again, and it may increase the ratings again. I know that compared to today's GH, this is much better.
Yeah, my cousin who is 5 years my senior told me that he was so jelous that my dad had bought one. Not long before this my sister and I had my mother audio tape charlie's angels.

@cococandykiss : You were so lucky that worked for you!!! I'm still scarred from having to miss that wedding. It meant soooooooo much to me, like my life depended on it. To make it even worse, my stupid little "best friend" had one of the few VCRs in town; her mom taped it for her... AND SHE REFUSED TO SHOW IT TO ME. I can't believe I thought that kid was my best friend.

The west coast used to air GH at 2 pm all the way up until OLTL was canceled and it now airs at 1 pm.
GH came back at 2pm four years later.
Because frank smith would have beaten the information out of them.

@LuvTadnDixie : OMG, consider yourself lucky! My school (I was 11) got out at 2:50 pm & GH started at 2pm. I would run as fast as I could the second the bell rang, trying so hard to get home in time to see ANYTHING of Luke and Laura. But LOL, all I ever made it in time to see was the stupid ambulance and the end credits! I thank God for summer vacation and that the best storylines took place then. I even had to MISS THE WEDDING because my mom wouldn't let me stay home from school.
ShelliStuart my mom wouldn't, either. My sister let my 11 year old niece stay home for it, but my mom said no way, even though I was 16. I was mad at Mom for a long time after that, lol. But my sister had a vcr and made sure she taped it for me!

sonyab1974 I still prefer them. The show is supposed to be about the hospital staff and their lives, but it really got away from that.
