Its a double edged sword. If they get paid more it will turn into boxing, where no one wants to fight each other or they only fight once every 2 years. With the system UFC has now, if you want to make money you have to become a champion.
Never forget my friends: "Nobody is the villain of their own story." At the end of the day, these fighters, whether we love or hate them, come out and put their literal lives and longevity on the line to entertain us as the fans. They literally hurt themselves, sometimes for a promised payday of 20 grands tops and they literally risk CTE, permanent injury, irreparable physical trauma to places like their eyes, joints, ligaments etc. These warriors KILL themselves a little bit each fight for us. So i will never boo for a fighter even if i don't like them. For one to rise, one must fall and so for that i say thank you to all the fighters and i will shed more than a few tears for the dreams that never were. Thank you to all the greats and the not so greats for all the amazing fights, displays of mastery and inspirational stories of true grit over the decades. Sincerely, a fan of MMA since 2006.
Man.. this is why like, as a fan sure, talk your shit. It’s part of it. But I’ll never understand why fans go so far out of their way to try to tear down fighters and will even dig into their personal lives. These guys put themselves on the line every time for our entertainment and they deserve better than what they get back.
@WokeA.I. alot of fighters play into it and make it into a team sport. Fans live vicarious through their favorite fighter so when conor trashes fighter his fans will follow him like sheep.
Almost made it. Leon calling his mom got me. I lost my mom to cancer November last year. I was told through the grapevine I'll be getting my bjj black belt in June. She would've been so proud of me. I know just how much that phone call meant to him because I'd give anything to make that call myself.
1:25 Chael coming into help was a beautiful scene. That's honestly gotta be such a heart wrenching feeling. Going into a fight for the sport then seeing your opponent nearly dead in front of you while you should be happy you won...
It's a heartbreaking sport, people don't realise that most fighters do this because they can't make a living any other way. I personally tried as well but failed, I was not good enough, hence why I am a waiter and a doorman in the evenings. Mad respect to these guys, they deserve all the credit.
Feel you Bro. Not everyone have the talent of being a pro (I don't). So... to be a champ ? It's an other world. A world we can't experience with our own body. These men are something special. Huge talent, discipline, genetic, luck... everything. It's legitimate to admire them.
Something I have realized is it’s not just the money they fight because they HAVE to. I remember a interview with Dominic Cruz where he talks about fighter pay and how he doesn’t care much about that whole side of things because when he started fighting he was making 500 to show and to win. And at first it sounded like a classic old head “you guys are soft back in my day” sort of thing. But as he kept going I started to understand why he said that. He appreciated the money he made back then and when he eventually made it into the UFC because if there was no fight promotions he would have been fighting for pocket change in parking lots. That was the truth of it he just wanted the fight. The money just meant he didn’t have to do anything else on the side that’s what he was thankful for. I think that’s why you see these guys who should leave stay well past their prime. You watch them lose over and over and think “surely they have made enough money or can make more as a commentator or something”. But it’s not about that they do it because they just love fighting it’s who they are.
This sport is brutal bruh, seing Tyson Pedro retired last month because he was broke really got me, these mens and womans are giving everything for this and u can still leave with nothing

Sometimes sports feel like the only way people in the modern world can actually express themselves as a human being. The only place we can laugh, bleed, cry, ultimately the only place we can still be alive
1:28 I’d like to point out that, that was absolute class from Chael right there, he saw that Uriah needed someone and he pulled him away to comfort him, didn’t make a scene or anything, just helped someone who needed it

1:14 he was never the same after this and he had barely started, he was such an animal before that. Still so talented but it was like it was too real after this moment.
This is why MMA is the most captavating sport in the world. Every single time a fighter steps in the cage, a trained killer is trying to do life altering damage to them, you potentially don’t just lose, you get years taken off your life. Unbelievable to watch the victories, equally devastating watching your favorite fighter fade before your eyes. What a sport.
I’m literally balling. I feel like every fighter has a backstory of pain. That they take that physical pain and forget about the emotional pain. People that fight are legends 💯 to every fighter out there, battling with something, just know that you are amazing and you’re doing your best man. You’re better than you use to be and thats all that matters. God bless you
This is a really great video. I've come back and watched this 3 times now. I think what gets me most is Leon crying while on the phone with his mother; I'm sure a lot of us can relate to feeling down and having our mothers there to pick us up. That's why, becoming the man that your mother knew you could be has to be a certain kind of elation.
