- We released this pattern on my Patreon last month, and it was SUCH a hit! There’s something so whimsical about a wearable cape, particularly one that is gender neutral and not incredibly hard to create! If you are a newbie, this tutorial is for you! We are using the “Voyage Cape” sewing pattern. If you don’t already have this pattern, the downloadable/ printable pattern can be purchased on my website.

This pattern is great for wools, heavier fabrics, but you’ll also need a soft or silk lining! The pattern will list all the fabric yardages and notions needed!
If you are wanting to learn to sew, and don’t quite know where to start, check out my Patreon! There’s a small but growing library of instructional videos and DIY projects there for you to enjoy!

This is the style of tutorials I make on my patreon! I try to be as thorough and easy to understand as possible! As someone with a learning disability, regular tutorials lose me almost instantly, so I’m trying to make tutorials I would also be able to understand if I were on the other side🖤

What brand sewing machine are you using?
I completely understand. I didn't find out I was dyslexic until 40 yrs of age. By the time I finished college, I was so frustrated. I have not been able to understand directions esp in sewing. My mom tried teaching me, but it seems I put everything together backwards. When I saw rhis video, I was really excited. I'm mesmerized by your genius. Thank you Gunnar 😊
You'll just need a Tam and meershaum pipe to complete this masterpiece 😉
My Dear Gunnar, you are an absolute JOY to watch, there are times when I watch your videos that reminds me of my grandmother, she made ALL of my prom dresses, as well as all of my easter dresses, along with other outfits and other various pillows and whatnot. My favorite dress that my grandmother made me, ok it was one of my favorites, it was my easter dress from the year Princess Diana and Prince (soon to be king) Charles was married. I wish I had a picture, but I fell in love with that floofy and poofy wedding dress. Thank you for being the wonderful person and inspiration that you are. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@kerrazee methinks a deerstalker cap for the Sherlock Homes look.
The fact that you are self-taught still blows me away. You personify that one is capable of anything if they set their mind to their dreams. Please continue to be such an inspiration to others. Best wishes for peace & serenity in your life.
His talent is amazing!!
most amazing and talented tailors I know are also self taught. Amazing talent.
His grandmother taught him, yes?
As ever...I am bowled over... You are such an artist and sculptor in a way with what you do but you do with material. You have a real flair and you make it fun to watch and even though at 71 I do not Sew... It remained a great treat to watch you... I am so proud to know you and I'm sure your mom is delighted with your creativity and love for life.. Thank you for sharing all of this with us
I appreciate you 🖤
If you sew off your garment onto a small scrap (called an old maid) before clipping the thread, then sew from the old maid onto your next seam, your machine will not unthread! You can use the old maid until it’s too thick to fit under the presser foot. It’s a trick from quilt piecing. Thank you for the beautiful project and tutorial 💖💖💖
Omg this is a game changer
Going to use that!
i am havving trouble visualising ... do you have a video link so i can see what you mean please?
@@aaliyahraks So you are sewing various pieces of your dress together, but in sequence, and you need to move from a stitch to another. Instead of clipping the thread after the first stitch, you continue the stitch onto another piece of fabric, and only then you clip the thread (between the original stitch and the scrap). Now under the machine you have the scrap partially stitched, so you line up the next stitch of your garment and continue the stitch from the scrap to the garment. on the garment you do the reinforcing back stitches too, but you don't need to do that on the scrap.
it's basically |garment1| - |scrap| - |garment2|.
@@Serena-or7sl thank you ... great explanation!
There's so much fabric, by the time you get to pinning in the collar, that, yes, I do get overwhelmed and confused.
Thank you so much for being easy to listen to, and for taking the time ti film this and explain what you are doing.
Great tutorial.
Your voice and manner are so calming - this longer video is a great thing to listen to to help feel peaceful at bedtime, lol!
Love your work!
I agree!
I haven't made it half way through and I'm thoroughly enjoying this tutorial!!! I LOVE THIS! I know this type video takes ALOT of work, but Gunnar you've made it all work! I can't wait to tackle this project. Ive always been intimidated to try a blazer and you've given me the guidance and the guts!! 🤣😄Thank you for sharing
Honey! You really make me wish I paid attention in my home economics in 7th grade😊 ( 50 years ago) 😄😄
Now this is perfect for fall. Thank you.
You're a wonderful teacher, very thorough which is tremendously helpful. Patterns a scary, and not always obvious, so thanks for going through everything so well. ❤❤❤
Thank you for showing all these steps. I love your way of explaining how to do everything and why. ❤️👍
I could not handle that houndstooth fabric. My eyes would go bonkers.
I love that you made this with patterns and not just your same-size dress drape form.
Thank you for the long video.
Hi Gunnar. I'm addicted to watching project runway and you are one of my favorites. So gracious and talented. Just love your talent and personality. 💜
Gunnar you're such an amazing person....super talented guy...and I'll add a little more I really like your voice ....I enjoy watching your videos and I'm really impressed by your voice and your talent....Stay blessed gentleman ❤️
Thank you!!!!!
Love this! I'm not much of a sewing person but this is just so relaxing to watch❤️
Amazing work, I can't wait to make it!
Definitely love the longer form content!
It's such a great video! I am a self-taught sewer myself, and while watching this video, I could picture myself working with the fabric and working with the machine. Sounds kind of weird, but you captured the real feel of what sewing is like. Anyway, it makes me want to buy some of your patterns. They look so well done and easy to figure out. Thanks Gunner you are an inspiration. I'd like to sew more clothes for myself, because of my body type. I unfortunately have large curvy calves, and nothing seems to fit me. I might have to break out the sewing machine again. Thanks again! ❤
Also, I love this it allows for your arms to be free to swing, I bet it would be killer at a dance event!
My kids love watching your videos and so do I. Thanks for keeping the language clean (not a prude but my kids would repeat it). Very inspiring:) best of luck with your continued success.
Your creativity is a beautiful flame! Shine on!
I love the cape especially with the pop of purple/burgundy inside and I love that NAIL COLOR!!!!
I like the ham. I've used rulers or pencils instead of the scissors. Like you said: whatever is available.
I love your videos and how you take things to Joshua Tree to photograph! You have a beautiful aura and with your partner, you glow. Take care of yourself.. xoxo
Gunnar. Your creations are fabulous! Love them all! You are so talented and creative!!
I don't sew but you're just so fabulous that I have to watch your video offerings.

Such a great garment! I am imagining fabric choices 💜
Your voice is my ASMR prompt.
This is what I’ve always wanted. A complete video. Thanks Gunnar.
Please never stop doing these
Probably totally random but your voice is super soothing to listen to. You sound so happy and at peace
I was wondering how it was so easy for me to understand! I am dyslexic and this really helps so you did great thank you xx
I would use a dark green fabric and black for the underside. I love moss green and black. ☺️ I love your work Gunnar. It's been awhile since I have been on my UA-cam account I returned two days ago. I use to watch your videos everyday. ❤️☺️
I love this slower in depth tutorial

OMG this is so perfect! Yesterday, I just pulled out my Pfaff sewing machine from the 70s that was a hand-me-down from my partner's paternal grandmother who passed and am itching to make myself something! I've been watching you for a while now and it's so refreshing to see things are my style and the tutorial is so clear I can't wait to get some fabric & join your patreon! Much love - you are so inspiring ❤🖤❤
Your voice alone is ASMR🖤

That means a lot!!! When I started I wanted to make sure there was a good dose of education in all of my videos, so I’m thankful it’s finding the right people 🖤
Wow an hour long video!!.
You look great in that Sherlock-style draped coat. That color, and style of tweed fits you. Just my opinion.
Gunnar you are so talented and creative..please keep up the beautiful work 💖

I really really appreciate your work thanks a lot 🥰
I love that so much
Thanks Gunnar😊
I love to watch you sew. I’ve always been able to make anything I wanted. I’m lazy though- I start with a similar pattern to draft a new one though😁
Absolutely gorgeous ~ I do something called Tambour embroidery with coloured threads, beads, sequins and rhinestone ~ this pattern would 👀 Fabulous with velvet and tambour over top!!
What a great pattern, looks gorgeous. Those back tabs makes it drape and fit so beautifully. If there was a brother school to Beauxbatons, this is what they would wear!
💗❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎
I don't sew but I love watching you create!! ❤
I do too. It's so relaxing...
OMGGGG I love it! You should try Peggy Carter next! You could do like her captain Carter uniform or her uniform in the og movie
A whole hour video 😍
Love this! Thank you so much for sharing. Think im going to make mine in grean swade on the outside and white fluffy fabric on the inside. Maybe ad a cape🤔
This can also be made as a full length blazer dress red carpet look =)
So chic!!
Beautiful - and so chic! I'm getting the academia/Harry Potter vibe but this could so be a 1950s Audrey Hepburn style in houndstooth.
Love u and your work is so beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You’re incredible. ❤
i love it
You are super telented......I like your videos.... Your videos are super guide line...
LOVE IT
Thank you for sharing your beautiful soul with the world 🌍💕 Amazing ASMR confirmed!
Cute! Love you!
Love love love
Hi Gunnar. I love watching you design and sew. I wonder how this would look longer, like a cape with open sleeves.
I had to write this back to you because I meant to include this in the comment that that how wonderfully you made my day by liking it... But I just wanted you to know that you are a truly sweet human being and I would love to be able to be your friend... And if you don't mind I would like to continue watching your various posts and on your page and comment and just encourage you... In some ways I am actually truly envious of your mom to have you as Her son. Like they used to say when referring to a nice fellow... He's such a good egg... And later ...you're a good man Charlie Brown... I think that was told to Charlie Brown by Lucy, in fact all of the Snoopy characters at One Point...
Beautiful I love it. I think it would look even better a little longer.🍀♥️
Could easily be made a bit longer!
@@GunnarDeatherage 🙏♥️♥️
Me encanta perfecto para el invierno también me recordó al abrigo tipo capa que usó ciruela al final de la película
Love you to death, you never disappoint....
🙌🖤
I don't know if you know this or not but I just found this video featured on my Google feed! It was like: Hay! I know him! Lol just thought I'd share that❣️
