Truly incredible footage and results! I just received 5 clouded archerfish and am in the process of setting up a 90 gallon home for them. Thanks for all of the insight 😉👌
Actually zoologists of the zoological garden in Stuttgart, Germany bred archerfish in 2011. They also don't know how they did it but they raised them. Still a great achievement
@@jadeperchman what salinity for water did you use and what kind of food? My Archer Fisch Babies Always die because they dont eat. So they die after sround 20 days of hatching
What do I need to do the eggs? or how do I hatch them? Is there a specific procedure i must follow? My archer fish just bred, there are tonnes of eggs floating around and I dont know what to do. Please advice thank you.
We spawned and hatched them in purpose built tanks, then moved them to a plankton pond. If you are not able to use a plankton pond, you will need to hatch artimea os something similar. The eggs should be moved into a suitable tank to hatch.
Thank you for sharing this incredible footage. I kept Archers for years. I had T.jaculatrix, T.chatareus & T.lorentzi. They’re my absolute favourite fish, and it’s been a long held dream to catch some wild ones in their habitat. I loved feeeding mine spiders and crickets and any other live food I could find them. They used to spit at me from across the room to get my attention (I’m assuming they’re smart enough to know I wasn’t prey) I have so many questions, if you can help me.
@@jadeperchman I am very sorry to hear that. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. So, am I to understand you do sell these fish when available and ship to the U.S.? Please expand the details. Thanks. Roger
Do you need to use hormones? Or is there a way to bring an outdoor pond into a condition for them to spawn without hormones. I live in Australia and i am in the middle of making a brackish pond strictly for acher fish and some crabs.
During the breeding seasons males are "running", milt when gently squeezed. Females will not have milt, but will have slightly swollen abdomens. It may even be possible to collect an egg (oocyte) sample.
It is in fresh water? I have 3 toxotes blythii (from Myanmar) and i would love breeding this fishes. (Sorry for my english). Love this video! I´m from Argentina. Saludos!

We used hormone to induce spawning.

@@checkheck5015 These are freshwater archer fish. They were spawned in freshwater. They need to eat freshwater zoo plankton to thrive.

@@TheJadeperchman ohhh okok understood. But during the egg phase, do I need to put oxygen?
As you can see the spawning tanks are aerated to keep the eggs in suspension.
So archers are egg layers??
Hmmm breeding methods please :) tnx. .
Everything I can tell you freely is in the video.
how long the eggs start hatching from the first ??
Mamai Homestay it usually takes about 12 hours till they start hatching
about 30 hours
Congratulations on your big accomplishment.
Thank you
do you have any photos of how the eggs look like?
Yes. There are many videos and stills on my channel, and on my Facebook posts.

I have only ever tried using hormones. Pure fresh water for this species.
How can you tell male from female
