Thanks for posting this. I had that interior panel off many years ago and I remembered having to be patient and let the ice thaw totally to get the panel out. Your video helped me to remember how to do it today. The bottom horizontal length of the heating element has a small tab attached to it. For anyone having icing problems you need to ensure the tip of that tab is aligned directly above the drain hole. The gives the dripping melt water during the defrost phase the best opportunity to drip down the hole without freezing up elsewhere. I had to realign that tab several years ago, and again today. Hopefully it’s good for another few years. I am going to order the “fix” that I have seen on other UA-cam diy efforts.
I had the same issue within two weeks of buying a ge fridge. I took it apart after watching all the you tube videos and read the manual. Two things: my first problem was the leveling of the fridge. The manual clearly says the fridge needs to tilted about 10-15 degree backwards for the condensation to drain properly. Although I had it professionally installed the installers never did this. The fridge comes with leveling feet at the front. You have to raise the front of the fridge by turning those feet to make it higher so it is slightly tilted backwards. In my case leveling the feet was not enough since our kitchen floor is slightly sloped inward. I had to put some wedges underneath the feet to make it tilting backwards. The second problem was the drip tube as the maker of this video pointed out. My drip tube is “J” shaped and comes with a lot of gooey stuff to hold it in place from the manufacturer which eventually gets clogged. I cleaned up all that gooey stuff and put a wedge underneath to hold it in place (probably didn’t have to). Problem solved. No issues for a year so far.
I am on my second refrigerator within 8 years. The first piece of junk was an LG junked after two breakdowns within 3 years. Then after junking that I bought an Ge now broken down after almost 5 years. The junk that they are selling us is disgusting. No brands are reliable today.
that piece of ice tbere just use a screw driver.. pick it off.. use another screw driver to hammer it.. i have the same fridge..every six months otlr so the ice builds up and clog the fan.. so annoying
Don't EVER hammer at it with a screw driver. Thats a good way to break stuff or even put holes in the plastic. Let it thaw out or use a hair dryer like I'm doing right now.
My ge profile has been randomly beeping for years now.. Have more recently found a ice builup under the lower crisper and above the freezer chest. I have to remove this ice once a month. one day Im going to smash the control panel or remove the speaker f I can locate it. Its really annoying. never buy a GE again. Bruce

That last discovery just saved me from ordering a replacement refrigerator.. thank you so much!

what a chill repairman
Helped out a lot. Defrosted the fridge and it works great!
this makes sense for me. Thank you, have a GE older SSLK model. gonna try this
Same thing happened to mine. GE is total garbage these days. Will never buy another.
Me too.... 3 refrigerators by GE POS!

Thanks for posting have the same problem with the same model 😂
Thank you, this is what's wrong with my fridge. Thanks for the video.
Joel- thanks I am doing what you did BUT fridge was holding steady. Since top was froze up would that cause bottom freezer to not work?
what about turning up the freeze temperature to make it slightly warmer? will it defrost slowly?
Did you have to replace the fan?
I have the same exact fridge! My spring broke off a while back and my fridge keeps freezing. Where did you get your spring from?
Hi - which spring? The door jam one?
If so you can find it on amazon. www.amazon.com/dp/B07RZC1J8Q/ref=dp_prsubs_2
Thanks. Time to take mine apart
I got the screws out is there a chance that the styrofoam is frozen to the back wall, mine wont hang off exposing the fan etc
I had a GE guy come buy and he did not want to do that cleaning. He just told me to clean the ice a the bottom periodically. I kid you not.
But why does it freeze??

Great info. Same issue with mine. It’s a POS. Never buy again. I have an old dinosaur fridge in my garage that never has a problem.

You put a Band Aid on a cut that requires about 5 stitches . If you are going to fix it do it right the first time
So what’s the right way
