  • My refrigerator’s model # PFE27KSDCSS
Part # WR60X10356 - Original Evaporator Fan motor
Part # WR60X26866 - Replacement Evaporator Fan motor
The manufacturer has replaced part number WR60X26866 with part number WR49X25197
How to determine the date of manufacture for your GE appliance: products.geappliances.com/appl...
    fixitnow.com/wp/2007/01/10/ma...
Search for parts with your GE appliance model number:
    www.geappliances.com/ge/parts/...
I misspoke @0:39 ( • GE Refrigerator evapor... , the part is not recalled, even though I was thinking it should have been, it was discontinued.
Folks, I searched everywhere to find the proper replacement part for my GE fridge when it started acting up, including the link I have provided below. When I diagnosed what part I thought I needed to replace, I tried to look-up the part number with the assembly diagram from their web-site. Since it was discontinued, (unbeknownst to me) it was not listed even though it had a diagram number associated with the assembly view. The only way to get the part number was by calling GE, or taking apart the fridge to see what the part number was.
I had to call GE multiple times. First call was on a Saturday, which I DO NOT suggest. I got the best support during the week, 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.
The original part (WR60X10356) has been discontinued and the replacement part (WR60X26866) issued by GE is on back-order; most probably since many of these fans are failing around the same time and the manufacturers can’t keep up with replacement demand.
Symptoms of my problem included loud humming and vibrations (from the fan frozen) and fresh food compartment freezing items in the drawer and holding about a 50-degree temp even though I had it set at 36 degrees. I hope this video helps to save you some time if you are experiencing similar issues.
Also note, that I do not make any guarantee that this will fix your problem, please use this video for educational purposes. :)

Thank you for posting this video. I was able to replace the fan in record time. The whole ordeal only took me about 20 minutes. I have never replaced parts on an appliance before, but was able to do so thanks to your video, with the clear instructions and the video to boost the confidence. By the way, my fridge originally had that WR60X10356 fan, which GE stopped making and replaced with the WR60X26866 (which apparently requires programming). I opted for the WR60X29099, so no programming was necessary. I am looking forward to cold food once again. By the way, I ordered my part with free one day shipping from Amazon. No local businesses carried the part, and if I ordered locally, I would still have to wait for 2 business day shipping.
I would like to add that my husband and I used your video to de-ice the original fan, which bought us a few months time before the problem returned. This time, I broke down and ordered the fan. Both times we used the video, the fix was quick and painless. Thank you again.

Wasn't sure what happened with the fridge but when I found this video it was exactly the same issues. Ordered the part and received it a few days later. The repair took one hour. Thank you for the video as it walked me through exactly what I needed to do. The repair worked and now the fridge works like new.

I too have the same problem (cold freezer and warm refrigerator section) and ordered the fan and software cable repair kit off of Amazon (included the fan and cat5 cable for the SW upgrade). My GE refrigerator is a slightly different model built in 2012 but the interior is nearly identical with the same replacement fan model number. I'll use the procedure you've shown today. Thanks for the video...

Another happy customer, thanks. GE 29 cur fridge with original fan part #WR60X10356. Replaced with #WR60X29099. No software update required. I was a bit worried since it took about 20 minutes for any fans to turn on but eventually it started cooling, and by this morning both freezer and fridge were spot on (0/36 degrees respectfully). The freezer had been running 4-5 degrees TOO cold, and the fridge about 19-20 degress too warm. Also, lowest fresh food drawer was frezzing items. Problem solved.

My serial number starts with LA. Based on the instructions you show, it appears to be outside the range that requires reprogramming. Unless it says something different? Someone mentioned in the comments that part number WR60X29099 also works and needs no reprogramming regardless of serial #, but it is a lot more expensive than the replacement part you mentioned, WR60X26866. As long as LA doesn't require reprogramming, I think it is better to go for the part you mentioned. I think I can accomplish it all except possibly reprogramming. I am bound to screw that up. So hopefully it isn't needed.

Good question Jimmy. If you're in a pickle, I suppose you could get that new fan in and see if it kicks on without the firmware update. Worst case is it won't kick on. I assume the firmware update is to fix what is making these fans go out prematurely. So you'll probably want to get it updated as soon as it comes in or you may end up ordering a new fan again. ;) I need to mention that my model didn't need a firmware update, the replacement fan came without it. It all depends on the model fridge, and I got lucky! Good luck and happy new year!

Sometimes my GE refrigerator has same problem. When it occurred the refrigerator compartment will up to 58F-60F(whatever what temp I set) and the down drawer will be freeze, then the freezer compartment will down 2 F as I set.So obviously the refrigerator's evaporator fan didn't work caused the problem. But after several days it works normally, looks like the fan works again, but it's very loud. And after several days the problem will come back again,so the problem just randomly happened.I am not sure is it the evaporator fan problem,it seems like it's not completely not working, just like sometimes it's dead and sometimes it just alive.I am very confused with it.Do you have any suggestion?Thank you!

How long did it take for your fridge cool back down?

    • @jatala
      @jatala  4 роки тому

It took a solid 12-18 hours for mine. 24 hours would be reasonable if it was completely warmed including a thawed freezer component in my opinion.

Where did you get the fan?

Hey Chris, I was able to pick mine up for a fair price (at the time) on Ebay. There are plenty of other parts wholesalers available as well, including GE if they have them in stock.

Cheap ass fan for a $1000+ refrigerator. You would think they would put the most reliable part for that. But no.
