Thank you. This is the third video I have watched and the first showing the cardboard tube is a tool. I thought maybe it was to keep the box from being crushed in transit. In the two other videos they struggled with needle nose pliers and a screw driver. I was looking for a clever way and I'm so glad I found this video. It would be nice if the box the thing came in had a picture of the cardboard being used, or a 2x2 piece of paper explaining it. I think I'm going to pull the housing right out of there so I can use my C-clamp with an old brake pad on top of the roll.. Thanks again, this was a big help. SUBSCRIBED and liked
Oh my goodness so that's what that tube is for. I took the whole housing off and took the tube and pushed it down with my hand and took the thermostat right out and then I used the same tube put the thermostat back in the housing put the tube over the round plate of the thermostat push it down and twist and the wings went right underneath those two brackets on the side of the housing. Thank you so much for sharing to us UA-camrs. #PEACE✌🏾
Having similar problems with a 2012 Malibu LTZ I believe it's the thermostat, now I have to figure out where that is in my car. This video was useful, Update, I followed the video instructions and it all went well, thank you, this saved me over 400$ I put in a thermostat, gasket and new coolant tank.👍🏾 After I put everything back together, I had to get a car battery jump but after that everything was fine Car is running fine!!!
I was looking for this by searching Buick Enclave posts. I was wondering what the cardboard tube was for. Turns out my issue was a broken heater supply hose so I didnt change the thermo but now I know I dont need a thermo tool. Great vid, wished I saw this first!
glad i found this video, been thing for over an hour to get the thermostat back in the housing. never even crossed my mind about the tube, had mine out of the car put the tube no the counter and pressed the housing down, 30 sec and it was in
Thank you, the only video I’ve seen that showed the exact same car as I have. Don’t know why but many 2008 Malibu videos are very different from mine and I had trouble getting help
Excellent video. Unfortunately for me, GM in their infinite wisdom, decided to mount the housing on the Camaro on the backside of the engine between the intake manifold and trans bell housing. But you provided some excellent views and tips so I have a better idea of what I’m dealing with. Thanks!
There is a small cardboard sleeve that comes in the thermostat box, it slides over the tabs , just push down, I installed in in 3 seconds flat with this piece!! At 1st thought it was stuffing for the box but it’s actually a tool🎉
That oily goo in the intake tube is caused by blowby picked up by the PCV and routed into the intake. This is a common problem on direct injection engines, and leads to heavy deposits on the intake valves. Many people install aftermarket PCV CATCH CANS on cars with that type of engine to alleviate that exact problem. That little turnout tube on the intake is not to catch condensation. It's a non-restrictive way to "tune" the intake tube to reduce resonance (quiet the intake). In the past, some cars (like the 90's Chrysler Corp 3.5 V6s) used a reducer sleeve inside the air tube to do the same thing - removing that reducer on those cars gave a noticeable power increase at WOT, and a pleasing "growling" sound. 😄
Why not put the bolts through the outer housing, slide the gasket over the bolts, then align it all to the inner housing/block, then start the bolts to ensure alignment of the gasket?
Did the new one not having a seal make a difference I changing one in a 3.0l and the thermostats look the same I haven’t put the new one in because I don’t know if it will be alright without the seal
I literally just replaced the thermostat and included the water outlet O ring for the thermostat and now I'm having problems. I'm wondering if the o ring is not included because it doesn't need to be put on the thermostat. I'll be going back in tomorrow to remove the O ring and hopefully I can reuse the gasket that came with the new thermostat.
I bought the thermostat from O'Reilly for a 2017 chevy traverse, it came with the housing gasket but the thermostat itself don't have the gasket like the old one I pulled out does. So I am wondering if I'm going to need it or just install the thermostat itself without the gasket
Hi Karl. The rubber seal around the outside edge seals the fitting from leaking. Is there another rubber seal you are referring to? I've not had any issues with overheating since changing the thermostat.
It took me about 2 hours because of all the stuff that GM put over the top of the thermostat housing. Actually changing the thermostat only took 15 minutes or so.
Sad to hear this Jorge. These are separate systems. No connection. My best guess would be a possible unplugged wiring connector for the AC pump. There are a lot of wiring connections routed throughout the area we are working in. But if the compressor is turning on the take a look at a possible blend door actuator failure. This would be under the dash. It's a small electric motor that moved the air doors to give you control over cold and hot air blowing.

Perry, I'm delighted to know I was of help to you! Thanks for watching and God Bless!
I used a 3" paint roller cover to compress the spring. It worked perfectly. I didn't need any channel locks.
That is awesome Kevin! Great idea!

Thanks for the compliment Inferno! I wish you the best with that hidden housing!

Excellent video bro. Very detailed and showed you exactly what need to be done. Thank you!!
Glad you liked it David!

Very good video, and thank you for not adding some ridiculous annoying music.
I try. Thanks!
Awesome description/ procedure
Thank you Robert!
I usually tighten bolts 1 half turn before they snap.😂 Good job on a tight fit. 👍
Oh man! I feel that! Thanks for watching!
great video 2 thumbs up!
No O-ring between the thermostat and housing??

Does the new thermostat needs a gasket or no

You are very welcome!
put a big washer on top of cardboard so the pliers don't dig in
Would it b better to get to it tho side trie
14:56 nitty gritty. Remove actual thermostat
Hi, does the thermostat still work if it has rubber seal? Did you have any overheating? thanks
Hi Karl. The rubber seal around the outside edge seals the fitting from leaking. Is there another rubber seal you are referring to? I've not had any issues with overheating since changing the thermostat.

Thanks
So did you use the black o ring gasket that goes on the thermostat ?
Hi Michael. Yes.
What would be the ideal tool for closing that thermostat ?
The thermostat closes and opens automatically when working properly.
Ooh I meant what tool would be the best to compress the thermostat in order to make it fit on housing . I lost cardboard tool
Good video. Thanks.
Thank you too!
why can't you stick the gasket on the housing
It is vital to put the gasket on the same part (either the engine or the housing) that it was on originally so as not to have leaks.
What year is this engine?
2011
I changed mine but my a.c stopped throwing cold air it was working fine before :/ any ideas why this happened?

Where did you find these large pliers??
dentist
Doesn't that bleeder button have to be at the top for air 🧐
I would think so too. But, I put it back in the same way the old one came out.
Yea the bleeder valve should face top
Safe yourself some hassle and just buy the thermostat housing with the thermostat already installed. It is 40 dollars compared to 20 for the stat only
Fuck that I rather by some big ass pliers with those extra 40$
Your better off buying the housing with the thermostat already set in it...
Could be...I never heard of those...nice!
Too much non essential yapping
Most of my yapping is non-essential.
Good video, Thanks
Thank you! Glad I could help!
