In Scotland, we don't call Whisky Scotch, its Whisky.
Also, Scotland isn't north England, its a separate country in its own right & if you refer to it as north England, it won't go down well.
Same with Lakes, in Scotland they're called Lochs, not Lakes.

Unfortunately, if you order whiskey in the U.S. it’s assumed you mean something like Jack Daniels or Jim Beam. “Scotch” is used to differentiate whiskeys made in Scotland. You can even look at bar menus at fancy restaurants here and they separate whiskey and scotch into different lists!

I had two weeks in Scotland it wasn't rainy but for 1 day. It was hot and humid the whole time. And I took every type of clothing you could think of.
Go to a travel agents in the USA (not here) and ask about a BRITRAIL PASS. gives you unlimited rail travel for 2 weeks anywhere in the UK. You can only buy the tourist one anywhere but the UK.
If you didn't bring an item of clothing just go into a PRIMARK store everything is as cheap as chips.

Great to hear you're visiting the UK again. The Highlands are stunning. If you stay in the Caladonian Forest you may be fortunate and see several of the UK's rarest animals; Red Squirrels, Pine Marten, British/Scottish Wildcats and the rarest of all, the Wee/Wild Haggis (but they tend to live on the wild heather above the tree line) The Haggis sold in shops and restaurants, comes from the domesticated variety; it's illegal to hunt the wild variety these days.

@The Thirsty Thrifters. Here's a wee piece of advice from a Scotsman on drinking a shot of single malt. Get a straw and suck up some water then allow one drop of water to fall into your whisky and taste. When you taste it, swill it around in your mouth and swallow. If you're drinking a blended whisky, add one-third water and two-thirds whisky. If you follow that advice you can't go wrong. Btw, I enjoyed your video, and, happy vacation to Scotland.

the cobbled streets in edinburgh look quaint etc but they are also a tripping and slipping hazard. and you will walk a lot when visiting there. a decent pair of sneakers are ok for walking the streets, but consider something a bit more robust if you want to climb Arthur's Seat or walk in some of the parks/grave yards etc, they can get a bit muddy. also, take a small backpack for your rain gear, sandwiches. bottles of water etc. especially if you are dependent on public transport.

Guys, I'm an Englishman who served with a Scottish infantry regiment in the British Army. I still have many Scottish friends - and as an 'outsider', here are my tips:
    1. Public transport is fantastic. However to see all of Scotland's beauty, I would hire a car. You won't regret it!
    2. The accents. You may think you have mastered the citizens of Hawick, Edinburgh and Glasgow - and then the folk of Aberdeen through a left ball.
    3. 'Jocks' love a sing-a-long. No excuse is needed to socialize. Join in and have fun!
    4. Food. Don't be tempted in to the 'deep fried' everything con. Haggis and nips are wonderful with your favourite dram. Scottish raspberries are the best in the world - fact! All food is fresh and delicious. Try the Angus beef!
5.The Scottish people are very kind and I've loved my many trips 'up north'. I'm sure you'll love your trip. Keep us updated!

You have to try haggis, it is delicious especially with a whiskey sauce (ignore the ingredients).
For whiskey go to the "whiskey experience" shop right outside Edinburgh castle on the Royal Mile They have a huge selection and or go to a distillery (they all have shops offering a selection of their own whiskies) . Opposite the whiskey experience is a souvenir shop that's worth visiting (it looks quite small from the outside but goes down into the rock for about 4 or 5 floors).
You will enjoy both Scotland and Ireland (I'm quite jealous).

I love you two, pronounce stuff as you want we know what you mean. I’ve been to America a lot and the thing I’d say about the food in the big cities I’ve visited is:
    Everything tastes really sweet
    You have huge portions
A lot of food tastes processed
But there was also some great food too but the majority seemed to go for quantity over quality.
The fresh stuff in supermarkets was really expensive, which may be why a lot of the people I know living in American cities don’t really cook and instead order in or eat out.
    Loved every visit though.

I’d give Irn-Bru a miss, or at least share a small bottle, it’s ultra sweet.
If you go to a chip shop you should try a deep fried Mars bar, which I believe may be the same as a Milky Way bar in the US, it’s dipped in batter and deep fried. They also apply the same “culinary” technique to slices of pizza if you’re feeling brave.
You should be ok in Edinburgh but if you are planning to venture further north or to the west side of country beware of the midges. May is the start of midge season, pack a strong anti insect spray, they might be tiny but they are ferocious.

Haggis is gorgeous served with neeps, tattles & whiskey sauce. Haggi are lovely animals they live in the mountains & have 2 short legs and on the other side there legs are longer. The male haggi run around the mountains left to right & the females right to left, this is so they can get together. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. In the west of Scotland we have Midgies they are tiny flying blood sucking gits, they swarm and get in your hair etc. there bights are similar to mosquitoes but in gang form.

@@lorddaver5729 what jest? It’s a perfect tail for a straight face, think of it as a way to keep you amused. My friend and I would invent crazy sounding jobs to talk about when a guy asked you what you did while out clubbing. I glued the fluorescent bit round traffic cones, my friend was in charge of quality control for the string on tampons. We could really spin those job related conversations for ages, very funny. spirits are in Scottish measures.
ie much bigger than English measures.
'Two fingers' (index & middle)is known as a bumper, not sold over the counter, but served socially amongst friends.
Alternatively (to a friend) you may jokingly request the two outside fingers 😉.
It's only taken as greed if you then fail to finish your drink.
The opposite is called an 'English measure'.
Celcius is used for cold temperatures in winter, and for cooking.
Farenheit is used for hot temperatures in summer, except nobody here knows eg what boiling temp is in degrees F.
Midges(mi-jeez): Scotland's dark secret, originally bred to keep out 'English invaders', attack victims in swarms, get inside metal armour, have gone feral.
Like moskitos, but smaller and much more annoying. Inhabit, swarm, damp boggy conditions. Are grounded by summer breezes. Only the female bites, takes blood to feed its young. Although none carry disease.
Take: regular doses of oatmeal, eg haggis, porridge, for a strengthened constitution.
Antihistamene, preventatively, to sooth the red itchy bites.
Scotch whisky, internally, for feel good ie you won't care, whisky breath.
Alternatively: midges are attracted to CO2 in your breath; hold your breath for 5 to 10 minutes, so the midges will get bored, look for somebody else to annoy.
Haggis: Scottish oatmeal(instead of breadcrumb) spiced sausage. Did you ever ask what goes into your US minced meats, hot dogs or burgers?
    Same difference.
Except here in Scotland our hygiene laws are far stricter: by law eg there are zero foriegn objects, insects or detritus, permitted, or tolerated, in our foodstuff.
There's no artificial flavours, enhancers, growth hormones, GM anything, chemicals or preservatives in our haggis, except for salt & pepper(seasoning).

Chips are not french fries, chips are chips try them and you will know the difference 😂😂 10 to 15 degrees in Scotland is summer, taps aff material lol Edinboorg is the closest way I can explain it, my American Auntie came from America and hit every car she went past because she forgot what side of the road she was driving on, sacrilege a Scottish breakfast is for men, English breakfast is for big girls blouses, haggis is amazing, don't try and let what it's made from put you off, tablet bleugh, neeps and tatties, it's ok but won't be offended if you don't like it, I'm not fussed about it, stovies mmmmm, I used to work for iron bru, they changed the recipe a couple of years ago, give it a miss, it's not what it used to be I haven't drank it since 😂😂, food, kebabs only get eaten when you are drunk, fish and chips shops will show you the difference between fries and chips lol Edinburgh is shit, next subject 😂😂 we use teapots and kettles not microwaves to make a cup of cha or coffee,, we have spiders the size of your hand too and earwigs which will eat your ear and play flower of Scotland on repeat, ok that was a lie 😂😂 enjoy your time here all the best and have a blast oi oi

    Scotch pies minced mutton filling.
    Potato 'skons' - potato bread.
Cullin Skink - fish chowder. Cullin is a place, skink is a smoked fish chowder.

Edinburgh = Ed-Im-Bruh. You could spend several days just walking round the centre of Edinburgh, it's quite compact. The old toon is very old and has the castle, the new toon is Georgian so just a few hundred years old. Wear layers, weather is unpredictable. In summer it's light from 4am till 11pm and never gets really dark. Haggis is superb, don't be afraid to try it. You don't want to think what goes into McDonalds either. People are 'Scots' and not scotch, which is an Americanism for whisky. Ask for whisky, not scotch. If you announced a date and pub while you're in Edinburgh you might get some UA-cam viewers along for a drink. Just sayin.

As a proud Scotsman I object you making fun of our culture and the way we speak! Different folk have different strokes! You will receive a warm welcome from the Scottish people who are in Scotland (NOT the north of England) Ask them to speak slower and they will, we do not speak as fast as Australian's, but yes - we are bad for taking short cuts! Scottish food you have got too try! BUGS - Yes we have bugs! - Midges that bite, which helps to keep visitors from coming back, also the ferocious Cleg! Google them! Scots Whisky is what it says on the bottle (not American Scotch) looks like your man had a lot of it! I have been to Orlando playing golf with a nice load of Americans who repeated what I said many times! I am now a pensioner who has toured the whole of Scotland! The UK/Scotland is a small Island - but there is so much to see and too visit, so don't expect to see it all in your visit! I can recommend places and towns/villages to visit! If you are going to Skye - then buy a midge net - which you place over your head/face to prevent the wee fu----- from biting you! Enoy your stay - haste ye back!
