Best cool down stretch for after running in the mornings! It’s fast enough that it doesn’t make me late for work, but definitely helps me loosen up important muscle groups after a run. I feel so much less stiff and creaky when I incorporate this into my workout! Thank you!
Ahhhh . . . what a restorative practice after my run! My muscles just melted & heaved a sigh of relief. It is great that this pose can be done outdoors immediately post-run. I modified it by bringing indoors to my mat, holding most of the poses for a few minutes, adding a pigeon sequence for my tight-as-a-rubber-band hips, and really allowing my muscles to completely lengthen and relax. Bliss! Thank you!!
I love your channel! I'm an Alexander Technique teacher and a runner. I find your sequences to be right in line with my own body work, and very beneficial post-run. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I started running on Saturday to prepare for a 5k at the end of October. I do not fancy myself a runner at all...the next morning after I ran, I had horrible pain in my calves. This routine definitely helped!!! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this post run sequence. I practice it after every run now and feel amazing! Plus I love listening to your gentle guidance. I hope you still teach. You have an amazing gift.
Ah, this was perfect. I started yoga recently and started running again as well, and this is the best of both worlds. Also, I had to chuckle - just got back after 5 years in the Netherlands. Go figure that you'd be Dutch (judging from the accent). Bedankt!
Thanks you! What I always do after running and it prevents knee pain is to knee down to a soft place, and sit back to my ankle. It streches everything around my knees. It was recommended by a physiotherapist when my knees hurt me because of the running. Now it is gone, thanks to this exercise. Cool yoga practices though, I will extend mine with these ones.
Nice stretches, I can relate with those poses. Except for the quads one, it's not too effective doing it that way. The way you pull the leg, hips would compensate into APT thus the quad won't get stretched too intensely. How about get into PPT position and stretch the quads from there? Oh and another stretching pose I found quite effective is pigeon pose. Best of luck. Namaste 🙏🏽
Ekhart Yoga You're welcome. Been following your yoga channel since years ago. Always love the way you teach. So I'm the one should be thanking you here for I've received lots of knowledge from your channel ☺️
That felt really nice, thank you. I'd have a question though: Most of the stretches remind me of the moon salutation. If I did a few of these (plus half down dog and forward bend against the wall), would it make sense too or is it about HOLDING the poses instead of moving through DYNAMICALLY? Thanks in advance
Hi Tamara - great question. The advice has generally been to hold stretches during cool downs however there are also people who don't agree with this approach now and they would say moving dynamically is a better idea. I think there isn't one 'right' way that works for everyone and so I would recommend experimenting with both and mixing things up. Moon salutations after running sound like a lovely idea and I can imagine doing that with a couple of longer held poses would be a great combination. Sorry that's not a clear answer but hope it helps!
Thanks, it did help. I fell a pretty intense stretch though in my sacroiliacs, which is a tender spot for me. I'm trying to maneuver around them to avoid to much opening there by bending one knee, stretching only one leg at a time. Are there any exercises for stretching the legs/opening the hips AND keeping the sacroiliacs stable?
I've been doing this cool down after runs for over six years now, I just wanted to say thanks!
Thanks!
Me too🎉🎉😊

Really enjoy this and the warm up session, they’re regular go-to’s for running stretches. Love that little “ok, I think that’ll do,” at the end😄
😄
This felt really good after my run, thanks!

My first time ever trying any yoga and I enjoyed it even though it was a short 7 minutes. Just what I needed to get started!
Just did this after my run, thank you!!

What a sweet quick cool down! Thank you :)
Doing this after every run, its really helping, thanks x
Good and practical, thanks. Too many other videos I've seen assume that you'll be inside and have access to gym equipment and/or a mat.
Thanks Esther that was great! Really looking forward to giving this a go tomorrow along with your warm up one :)
Thanks. this will help me with my warm downs.
Thank you so much, Dear Esther
Thanks, great explanation for this cool down after running.
" Great session, Esther. Maybe you could share this on the Tribesport site as well? "
