I have the same dryer. This video helped me a lot trough the whole process! Thank you!
Mine was a bit less dirty, but still needed a cleaning.
On the next video you are showing us how to make a stainless steel mesh next to the filter. I will try that as well, because I think the filter design is bad.
    Thanks again! :)

This video helped me a lot! I canceled the purchase of this dryer. I may get the Bosch as it has self cleaning coils. I will go see if there are any videos showing how to repair the Bosch dryer first. I love youTube.

I hope you got the Bosch 300 series. The 500 and 800 series made it more difficult to remove the condenser coil pack. Why? Just so you can add bluetooth or wifi functions? If I walk away while the dryer is running, I am walking away because I'm going to work. Who cares if my phone can tell me the cycle is done when I'm not home anyways. Self maintenance is far more important.

Good instructional video :-) I have just completed the same operation on a three year old Wirlpool heat pump dryer.
However, I have blown the condenser and the small external radiator clean with compressed air. The evaporator I cleaned with water from the jet tip on a garden hose.

I did this take apart the machine and pressure wash one time.... Thought I would try a different method, I did not want to go through tis again!! I got a product (I was not paid, I paid full retail) called "Bio-Ezymatic Coil cleaner" because it claimed to clean remove Dirt, LINT, and grease from coils. I spayed it on, waited per instructions, but did use a soft nylon brush to brush away the surface. I did rinse with a hand water sprayer (they say self rinsing on condensing coils) . Much lint and dirt came off, and I did see bright metal in many places! Was not cheap... But 2 cans should last a few years. My build up was hard lint, this made the lint bush and rise away easily... This made it easy to clean... Heat-pump dryer manufacturers - Please test!

Have the same dryer. It's a nightmare. Was blocked after 6 months. Even i clean filters after each load. It isn't improper use, it is an awful design. Had 3 engineer visits. January 2020 wasn't yet 1 year old dryer. He said if he takes it apart he won't be able to put it back together. Advised to clean it with toothbrush. He fixed loud noises which came back after he left. He took dryer apart a little there was more than 5 cm of fluff inside it. Second engineer upgraded the bottom filter. And said i should only clean filters. Nothing else. But issue still continues. Few days ago i had third engineer, who said dryer isn't repairable, and the only thing he can do is to cut off that grey plastic so i can clean it with toothbrush easier. There is little access to it. The issue with dryer is-it is making loud noises, it is very loud in general, that thing is blocked, loads comes out dump. Whirlpool isn't helpful as they get reports from engineers that dryer has no faults and working to its specifications. Never again i will purchase whirlpool and other 2 brands they have. And i am still covered with warranty. Dryer isn't 2 years old yet. And no help from whirlpool.

It may be all these stupid heat pump dryers! We bought a very expensive Samsung heat pump dryer. I think it’s almost 3 years old and we’ve had a repair man here about 4 times now. It’s broken, Again! Last repair was $800. I’ve meticulously cleaned that bottom filter regularly and it gets clogged with wet lint. I would vacuum with a special small hand held vacuum I have just for it with a soft brush end. And yes, I’ve used a toothbrush and it still breaks down. It was about $ 3000 new. 😡 I’m just sick to my stomach. Now what do we do?.? I’m not investing any more money in it. Absolutely ridiculous. Now I’m wondering, are all these dryers the same? Have the same problem? I saw one that uses the water collected to automatically clean that filter. It’s expensive though. I’m tempted to go back to the cheap vented dryers. If I buy one a year for the next six years it would be the price of that $3000 one we bought. They should be ashamed of themselves selling such crap. We got the matching Samsung washer at the same time and it’s been sitting in the garage for the last year, broken too. 😭

Thank you for this video. I have this dryer- it’s such a bad design as everyone has said. The main issue is that the upper lint holder lets way too much lint/fluff down the sides( not into the holder). I put a thin micro fibre cloth along both sides of the lint holder before pushing it back in its place. It stops so much from going into the bottom filter which is a ridiculous design too.
To try and save the machine, I have cut off the plastic grid, dried the wire cover on the heat pump with a hair dryer and then vacuumed it. I used a wire to scrape off the fluff that wouldn’t come off with the vacuum cleaner. It’s 5 years old and now ready for the bin unless I can save it with this video. Whirlpool need better design engineers!!

    • @rollandelliott
      @rollandelliott 2 роки тому +2

@@cherylp.3347 basically yes. a normal dryer has the lint go out side through the vent. Lg has a water flush mechanism, not sure how well it works, but the real issue is they are made poorly. There is no reason why a bottom access port would allow one to clean it without taking the whole thing apart!

I've watched several of these video's. I choose the cut screen option. But with something different than all the others. Before you work down there, use a book thick enough to support the door otherwise you can break the hinges.
    1. Cut using a new razor blade, I use the snap-off kind, cut through the screen very close to the edge of the rubber seal and into the plastic housing. Snap off the razor blade tip every two to three inches of screen. Cut the top and two sides. Pull away the screen and fold the bottom so the screen lays flat, the screen will pull away from the two center supports.
    2. Get a toothbrush and heat near the brush head to bend the bristle end, I used a high-intensity cigar lighter to bend 90 degrees from the handle. You will need this sharp bend. Wearing a headlamp and laying down on your side, use the toothbrush up and down on the condenser coil in a pull-away from the coil method, be careful not to bend the coil fins. Clean out the lint as you go and suck up the rest with a vacuum, I even blew out the coil after I vacuumed.
    3. I used butyl tape to seal the screen back into position, not electrical tape as some Whirlpool techies use. I took some 1/8" x 1"thick butyl seal tape and cut off a 4" strip. Then I cut lengthwise about 1/8" to 3/16" wide strips with my knife. Then these strips are pressed into the cut screen corner against the plastic housing lip and rubber seal with a finger or thumb. NOTE: wet your thumb with water or lick it often to keep it from sticking to you. I used a long hard press for each section. The butyl tape will form into position, but it takes pressure and patience. butyl tape is both heat and water proof. This makes it easier if you ever have to clean it again.
    Good Luck!

With proper maintenance and proper use, cleaning the internal condenser should not be needed. That's
      1. NO fabric softener,
      2. Clean the primary filter and the lip it rests on after every run, and
      3. _Clean the bloody secondary filter when the machine tells you to (!!)._ Do NOT open the flap, pull the secondary (bottom) filter out a little bit then stuff it right back in, just to make the light go away! When you do this, pressure builds up around the secondary filter seal, eventually causing blow-by. _THAT_ my good dude (or dudette, or anything in between) is what cause the protection grate and condensers to clog up on these machines.
I've done this job on more than 10 of these. All owners were ignoring the filter light. I run this machine myself too, bought new, have run it for at least 10 years. Had it apart to change a torn belt today so I popped the condenser housing and there was barely any dust at all. Because we clean the bottom filter when the machine asks for it.
I know it's tempting to put it off and just trick it into shutting off the light. Just don't do it. These are great machines, and will last you decades if you want that - if you operate them as the manual requests.

Bosch 300 Series. The radiator is in an easy to access pull out cartridge that you just yank and rinse. Do have a towel ready though, because it always has about a quarter cup of water come out when you yank it. Do not get the 500 and 800 series. They made the radiator less accessible.

If you have that much lint loose inside the dryer then you have a poor seal on the lint filter in front of the evaporator coil. Improve the seal by adding gasketing materials so moisture and lint only goes thru the fine mesh filter after you’ve spent this much effort cleaning it.

Orig filter is clean and thr metal filter cleaning is easier this way because there are no plastic parts which would make it hard. The whole surface of the filter is accessible.
Thanks for the idea of metal filter :)

You can clean the dryer without completely taking it apart. The tech is an amateur. All you need to do is remove the top, front and drum. Using a pressure washer is insane. The dryer has electrical and electronic circuits. What was he thinking? To clean the condenser, use a shop vac and toothbrush or similar stiff brush. You can blow it out from the rear with 15-30 psi air but not much higher to avoid deforming or the coil.

Was it cleaned? Yes! Does it work after? Yes! That is what matters.

So we need to only partially dismantle the entire machine to clean it 😂 Thanks for that. Crap design.

Why not just use compressed air instead of water?

Spraying water inside a machine feels so wrong. Maybe one of those keyboard-cleaner sprays is a safer bet ?

Wow, I thought this person was dismantling the dryer like an amateur. I guess its common with whirlpool engineers to design poorly. Like the under counter ice machines. Same thing. Remove the shell to get to the sealed system parts.

yes, ridiculous.. I pulled out the bottom filter that keeps blinking red. And there is a crazy amount of clogged dust deep inside the machine that is unreachable to me without disassembly. Designed by a moron! so annoyed

Holly shit, if this is what it takes to clean them I can’t imagine they get cleaned too often. What a shitty design!
