- I've had relaxed hair for a year, and these are my updates - what I've learned, where I went wrong, etc. Relaxed hair had many benefits for me, but ultimately, I missed my natural hair and I look forward to seeing where this new natural hair journey takes me. Leave questions for me or requests for hairstyles and I'll try them!!

Relaxed hair always looks dead/stringy to me. It seems that only people with extremely thick hair don't have this problem. I remember that when I had a relaxer back in the day, my hair was always in an anemic ponytail and only looked good the very day that I got it done. I also remember the scalp burns and the expensive salon appointments. Welcome back to natural girl!
😂not an anemic ponytail! Lol but yes I agree. For definitely gives dead and stringy. And I for sure will not be missing the scalp burn 😂. Thank you!!
I have thick hair and my hair looked stringy after relaxing and felt stiff. I don’t get relaxers anymore, but I remember when I’d gotten my last one in Feb 2020 I knew it was going to be my last one. My hair was tired! 😂
@@LyssieLysse 😂same. Stiff and tired
Yup if you like straight hair just be a straight natural !!! 😬😬😬
Hahahaha anemic ponytail!😂😂😂
They say you can tell when a woman is going through stuff with how her hair changes! Kudos to you for all you are doing though! Keep your head up!
😅facts. Thank you 🙏🏾 ❤️❤️❤️
My hair always broke off and fell out when I used relaxers. I’ve been natural for 11 years and still love my hair.
can’t wait to get mine back ❤️
If you really like natural hair, I always say that relaxing it is a highway to a big chop or the relaxers will chop it off for you sooner or later.
Big up though for the courage to try both and have a conclusion girl ❤
True lol. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Girl relaxing can be a life saver but it is so hard to prevent breakage! My hair is the shortest it has ever been because of breakage but i will never regret it, its been a year since Ive relaxed and my hair is growing and it is the thickest its ever been because of relaxing but never again lol
Lol right. Never again
Omg I was natural for 5 years put a relaxer in thinking I was gonna do better complete fail now I’m transitioning back to natural and staying that way ❤
Lol me too girl ❤️ glad we’re back in the natural community
I had this problem before. The problems was I needed more protien.... and iron. When I started to do a light protein as pre-poo and moisturizer deep conditioner after washing it ( I started to wash it every 2 weeks) and taking Iron, as well started and actually follow the aplication time of the relaxer ,(i relax every 3 months if I have good new growth , if not I can take it longer) my hair changed ... and now is full thick and gaining lenght.
When I was in collage my hair was waist lenth because of this rutine, so I went back to it.
Sounds like a good routine! That was my problem lol. I just didn’t have a routine at all. I was just letting it be
Your sense of humor gets me every time 😂😂😂
😂❤️❤️ thanks Sariel!
I can completely relate to everything you shared about what you have and are experiencing. My life is completely mimicking yours in terms of having a change in employment, moving and taking care of an elderly grandma. Most especially I understand the part about not taking care of yourself. All I can say is , “Me too!” You are not alone. I’m with you in trying to renew myself.
Well I know how hard all the transitions can be. Wishing you all the best as you work through managing it all and taking care of yourself too ❤️❤️
Awwww sorry about that, all the best in your new journey 😊
thank you ❤️❤️
Whew. Chopped mine in 2017, called myself texlaing in 2021 at 17 inches 🫠it was alllll good at first but once that new growth started coming in, breakage. I’ve learned your hair will never be 100% relaxed and as the new hair grows in the coiled hair will snap at the straight line of demarcation. Here I am in 2023 chopping that telexed hair every three months. I have about 19 inches of hair and about 9 inches of it is natural. It’s going to take at least another 18 months to get back. Now that I can really see the difference in the two texture I be mad at myself every time 🥹hair is definitely a journey. Thanks for sharing you stopped me from doing it again 😂😂😂🤣🫵🏾🫶🏽
Okay hang time! But 😂😂😂 yess please leave it be. you’re exactly right. That line of demarcation was nothing but damage for me too. It growing in each time is what really did it for me. I hateeeed that 😂
Wow, it's okay you have to start over again, it;s just hair. I know when I was using relaxers it just didn't agree with me. My hair would break, would be dry and stringy. I got fed up with paying a hair dresser every 2 months to put a touch up in my hair so I big chopped and that was the best thing I did in my life for my hair. The best thing, been natural now for 5 years. Love it. Don't get me wrong, I go back and forth in my head on relaxing my hair. The no ways seems to work more when I'm talking to myself. The struggle is real, but I have to remember what the relaxer will do for my hair. Yeah, it's easy to comb and wash, detangle and all of that but if you don't know what your doing, your hair will fall out and break looking a hot mess. I do not judge any women who decides to do what she wants to do with her hair, love to listen and enjoy watching the videos.
❤️❤️❤️
Your TWA looked beautiful -your face beautiful!!
So kind 🥹 thank you
A lot of women doing retouches wrong. I truly hope your journey is successful
Thank you!
I love your channel! You look beautiful!❤
🥹❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much!
If you like straight hair why not try getting silk presses and be a straight natural or do blow outs?😎 Relaxing our hair is like applying hair remover!
It’s not really about me liking straight hair for me lol. I love my natural texture. I just wanted to have a period of easy maintenance, and then felt that the maintenance wasn’t really all that much easier. And I missed my natural hair
Heat training will give you the easy maintenance you are seeking.
Beautiful quonna keep up the astonishing content 😀
thank you!!
@@QuonnaLeshae you're welcome
You do not look bad with short hair.
well I appreciate that ❤️
You did not need that wig!! I think you’re being too hard on yourself. I’m speaking from experience. I have a round face and I had all of these negative thoughts running around in my head about how I would look crazy with short hair. The reality…when I big-chopped I looked good with my twa! Re-program your thoughts and go forth in confidence!!!
You’re right. I need to do better with my negative self talk. Thank you ❤️
@@QuonnaLeshae Please!! Because you looked beautiful when you cut off that dead, damaged, permed hair. Your makeup was done, your skin looks good…chile, get you some of those big, beauty supply hoops…you know the ones that are bigger than your head (lol) and go’on about your business. Try, five, daily, morning affirmations that speak positively about who you are or goals you want to attain to begin the re-programming. Get you some Angel Reese energy. It works!
@@iwilson3950 😂I love it, I will ❤️ thank you for giving me this word today
When you relax your hair second time you should only relax the roots and whenever you blow dry use a protective serum
I did 😊
Bald and boujee! That’s what I used to say, I’ve big chopped 4 times and I’m done now😂😂😭but you still look good! With or without it!
😂I love it! Thank you!!
The short hair doesn’t look bad at all on you. My hair can’t handle relaxers, can barely handle heat. Had to cut from bsl to neck length from heat damage and neglect after having a baby. It’s gotten a lot better after protective styles last 8 months
Thank you 🫶🏾 I’m glad to hear yours improved after protective styling. Hoping to see mine get back to a good place by doing the same
I grew my hair with relaxers by getting wash and sets. I never applied heat to my head. Wrapped it and hair stayed full and pretty and retained length. You didn’t have to big chop again.
You are right. I always intended to big chop and return to natural though lol. I just wanted a break for a little while
My hair always had a rough time relaxed and most of it was that I didn’t know how to care for it at home so my scalp and hair were always dry and my length always had to be cut off.
it’s definitely a different type of care to maintain
I think it was overprocessed. The best thing to do with relaxers, is to NEVER apply them yourself: not unless, you REALLY REALLY know what you’re doing.
I totally agree...you should go to a professional
Hair don’t make you … you beautiful
thank you ❤️❤️❤️
I think do whats best for you natural or relaxed. I'm currently transitioning to natual but I dont know if I'm going to make it. My relaxed hair was always healthy I think either way you just have to take care of your hair...
I agree ❤️
I thought you were gonna hit us with finger waves or a lil curly short look, but the wig is cute. Either way the cut is cute too and take care.
❤
❤❤❤❤
Wow!!! All I can say is thank heaven for wigs RIGHT???? It'll grow back fast!!!
😂😭😭 yes. Can’t wait for it to grow back!
I just can’t find a wig I like the struggle 😩
I think your hair looks good that short
thank you 🫶🏾 I appreciate that
Are you suppose to wash wigs before you put them on? If so how do you wash them?
Honestly, sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. (I probably should always 😂). But when I wash mine, I just use warm water and any shampoo I have on hand and I let the water run down the hair and add the shampoo in a downward motion and squeeze it down the shaft of the hair and rinse it clear.
@@QuonnaLeshae ok thank you because I was going to wash my new and first wig like my hair 🤣🤣🤣.
@@dayum_mi 😂 omg, yeah we don’t need you messing up your first wig now
Your hair was nice even when it was so called damaged. You just don't like long hair. You are beautiful either way.
Thank you! It was definitely damaged though. I’ve had longish hair all my life, so it’s not that I don’t like long hair. I just know what my normal healthy hair feels like, and this wasn’t it 😅
where are you from? your accent is very strong
lol I hear that a lot - Georgia
@@QuonnaLeshae Georgia near Tennessee? I hear Tennessee too.
You have a beautiful face. You should see if you can do some curly style to your natural hair
thank you ❤️
I hate relaxers. I have 4A hair and my hair is pretty much manageable. Relaxing it make it so thin and lifeless I can’t! 🥴
Yeah I won’t be trying it again lol
Your hair already looks thicker once you cut it.
Honestly, it felt so much better too
This is nikki anderson I don't use perms anymore
This is nikki anderson iam not cutting my dam
Relaxed hair takes effort and work which you didn’t put into your hair!,it will grow back it’s just hair
You have to be educated on care of relaxed hair!,there are thousands of women with thick waist length relaxed hair
Yes it does. I know I could’ve had healthier relaxed hair, but like I said in the video, I didn’t have the energy to give towards it and I missed the natural hair. And for the women who do have the long thick relaxed hair, I love it for them ❤️
girl... this is a disaster. Period. You could have went and gotten your hair done and not destroyed it at your damn house. Be for real.
😂 what are you mad for?? Yes I COULD have, but I didn’t. It’s my hair and I do what I want to MY HAIR. It’s not like hair can’t grow back. I’ve not gotten my hair done by anyone in over 12 years. I know how to maintain healthy hair when I want it. Thank you 😊❤️
