  • I've had relaxed hair for a year, and these are my updates - what I've learned, where I went wrong, etc. Relaxed hair had many benefits for me, but ultimately, I missed my natural hair and I look forward to seeing where this new natural hair journey takes me. Leave questions for me or requests for hairstyles and I'll try them!!

Relaxed hair always looks dead/stringy to me. It seems that only people with extremely thick hair don't have this problem. I remember that when I had a relaxer back in the day, my hair was always in an anemic ponytail and only looked good the very day that I got it done. I also remember the scalp burns and the expensive salon appointments. Welcome back to natural girl!

😂not an anemic ponytail! Lol but yes I agree. For definitely gives dead and stringy. And I for sure will not be missing the scalp burn 😂. Thank you!!

I have thick hair and my hair looked stringy after relaxing and felt stiff. I don’t get relaxers anymore, but I remember when I’d gotten my last one in Feb 2020 I knew it was going to be my last one. My hair was tired! 😂

If you really like natural hair, I always say that relaxing it is a highway to a big chop or the relaxers will chop it off for you sooner or later.
Big up though for the courage to try both and have a conclusion girl ❤

Girl relaxing can be a life saver but it is so hard to prevent breakage! My hair is the shortest it has ever been because of breakage but i will never regret it, its been a year since Ive relaxed and my hair is growing and it is the thickest its ever been because of relaxing but never again lol

I had this problem before. The problems was I needed more protien.... and iron. When I started to do a light protein as pre-poo and moisturizer deep conditioner after washing it ( I started to wash it every 2 weeks) and taking Iron, as well started and actually follow the aplication time of the relaxer ,(i relax every 3 months if I have good new growth , if not I can take it longer) my hair changed ... and now is full thick and gaining lenght.
When I was in collage my hair was waist lenth because of this rutine, so I went back to it.

Whew. Chopped mine in 2017, called myself texlaing in 2021 at 17 inches 🫠it was alllll good at first but once that new growth started coming in, breakage. I’ve learned your hair will never be 100% relaxed and as the new hair grows in the coiled hair will snap at the straight line of demarcation. Here I am in 2023 chopping that telexed hair every three months. I have about 19 inches of hair and about 9 inches of it is natural. It’s going to take at least another 18 months to get back. Now that I can really see the difference in the two texture I be mad at myself every time 🥹hair is definitely a journey. Thanks for sharing you stopped me from doing it again 😂😂😂🤣🫵🏾🫶🏽

Wow, it's okay you have to start over again, it;s just hair. I know when I was using relaxers it just didn't agree with me. My hair would break, would be dry and stringy. I got fed up with paying a hair dresser every 2 months to put a touch up in my hair so I big chopped and that was the best thing I did in my life for my hair. The best thing, been natural now for 5 years. Love it. Don't get me wrong, I go back and forth in my head on relaxing my hair. The no ways seems to work more when I'm talking to myself. The struggle is real, but I have to remember what the relaxer will do for my hair. Yeah, it's easy to comb and wash, detangle and all of that but if you don't know what your doing, your hair will fall out and break looking a hot mess. I do not judge any women who decides to do what she wants to do with her hair, love to listen and enjoy watching the videos.
