I find Obama's knowledge of US and world affairs, the economy, environmental issues, etc. very impressive. He strikes me as a very intelligent yet modest man who is always willing to learn new things. He sounds very diplomatic and has a calm head on his shoulders. I think Obama deserves the chance to be president.

  • @Keesha_Hardy

I definitely agree with you. A lot of people are talking about the fact that he has no experience, but he has laid out a clear plan of what he is going to do as president. He has wonderful ideas of how to move this country foward, and I think after watching the debate last night, Obama showed that he has the ability to connect to those in both parties, when he had said several times that McCain was right on certain ideas. To me, McCain was stubborn and felt that his ideas were better than Obamas

I am so glad that there are people in this country who want to support and elect the person who will make the smartest decisions for our country. To me, there is no other choice but Barack Obama. McCain can talk about his experience all he wants to, but ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS! Just because John McCain has been in the Senate for 26 years and has shown bi-partisanship, doesn't mean that he has been in support of laws and bills that will help this country.

I've read Audacity Of Hope and Life In The Woods and Walden and Civil Disobedience, all great enlightening reads. The Old Testament is also a very interesting fairy tale to read but the New Testament is something too surreal and unbelievable. If you would spend some time, as a thinking open minded individual, listening to Bob Dylan's music, specially his early work and after his conversion, than you will find enlightenment there too. The man is utterly brilliant.

As a canadian with friends fighting in afghanistan and following american politics very closely ; I honestly think that the american redeployment in afghanistan will be concentrated on the pakistanese border. However, it is a much smaller area to control and defend than the whole of iraq, so it would make sense that you need less troops there than the couple hundreds of thousands serving in Iraq. Plus, a stronger international force is already supporting american troops.

The true unemployment rate is much higher than the estimated 8.1-8.3% there were barely any jobs created during the 30 months as you claim, the main reason it dropped was because people were starting to come off their unemployment checks which is also not calculated in the unemployment rate, leave out a lot of variables out of an equation and you can seem to get a positive outcome than a negative. True unemployment if you add certain variables is around 20-24%.

the more i hear Obama speak, the more i realize how proud i would be to have him represent the country. my how intelligent, logical, and non-demeaning he is! it's rather sad that some of these comments just lower themselves to name-calling and irate rantings. i suppose when you have no real substance to what you are talking about, that's what your response must be. i pray that this country will be blessed with obama and we can move forward to love and tolerance and away from fear and hatred.

He has been a Law maker as State & US Senator for 10.5+ years. He is highly intelligent, decent and forward thinking. As President you must be like a world class chess player thinking 10-15 moves ahead. He implored the Prez not to launch the unprovoked Iraq attack, that we'd be there for 5-10yrs & a sectarian civil war would result. Sen. Obama fights for past/present troops on Sen. Cmtee on Vet Affairs. He helped pass the strongest ethics reform legislation since Watergate & the list goes on!

There is a difference between extremely unlikely and impossible. However unlikely we estimate that life may be, we know that it arose on at least one planet. You mention one man's estimate, yet our knowledge of abiogenesis is increasing all the time. The building blocks of life are very common in the universe. I think it much more unlikely that there is a being that simultaneously has control of every molecule in the universe, yet remains hidden from any scientific test.

I think most people simple don't understand the concept of inflation and devaluation of a currency. The 4 trillion in debt you speak of devalued the currency by almost 22% that is why gas went up, of course there are other reasons but this is one of the main ones. Most people don't understand basic economics, when consumer confidence in a currency drops prices go up, if enough of a certain good is not sold companies downsize instead of keeping a surplus and lowering prices.

Obama is a smart guy. He thinks on long term, takes criticism with caution, and responds to it in a very well thought through yet unambiguous way. I hope he can swing the US's image in the world around. It's obvious that in the situation the US are in right now takes time, patience and a lot of effort to solve.
