Even if Japanese High Command were as high as Hitler to demand from its generals and admirals an invasion, and even were it to succeed (we're stretching our imagination here), there's no way they could maintain control over a vast swath of white territory. The worst-case scenario for Australia would be Japanese influence replacing white power over the Southeast Asia region. To your military's credit, the US did prevent this latter scene from realisation.

Actually, the United States didn't save Australia per se, at least not existentially. I see you know your military history quite a bit, and so I don't think you'd disagree that the Japanese had no operational capability nor the manpower to launch a full-on invasion of Australia.
