I can only imagine what she was feeling… Although 2001 was Serena’s best year in tennis, this match is a testament of how strong mentally could be that has led her to becoming one of the all time greats
That crowd didn’t realize their hate and their nasty disapproval is precisely what turned the Williams Sisters into champions. They had to fight and be stronger and more determined than their peers. Standing up to an establishment that never really wanted them to succeed. Will bet Clijsters never had to play in her home country with a crowd jeering her play in favor of a foreign opponent.
Wow huge respect for Serena enduring such a crowd! True GOAT to pull off this outstanding win. Shame on the tournament and attendees for their low behavior.
Serena Williams the fearless all conquering Queen of Tennis stood and will always stand victoriously Champion, and humanly tall. Well done and great game Serena. Well done Daddy Richard and Mommy Oracene, for as parents and Coaches you raised the very best and greatest daughters the Tennis world ever needed and have come to know and see to date. The Williams Star shines inspiringly brilliant and beyond, no matter what, throughout the Tennis world, sports and life penetrating and ushering in respect, fairplay and level playingfields across our humanity, excellently.😂❤❤❤
Im not a fan of boycotts and cancel culture..but this one by the Williams sisters in Indian Wells merits it...there was no attempt to calm the crowd by the organizers, and no matter what, crowd got no business interfering during the match, they can boo later, but not during.
I really have to learn this kind if mental strength. It's incredible. This was only 2001, so crazy. For different reasons Novak has had to have that kind of mental strength. I can only aspire.

Doesn’t get nearly enough credit.

Indian Wells will always be on my shit list for this
Always. Side eye at best
don't blame the event blame the crowd, it's completely different now
@@venicesurfer I will absolutely blame the event AND the racist crowd. They offered no protection and no official apology.

The focus and mental strength Williams had will never be replicated. Only person I can think of that mentally tough was rafa.

Any of these two would totally dominate current WTA. Serena more easily, OC.
Mental strength 101
...Boy, we can really tell what side the Whyte media is on...
