I mean I forgot too put it next to Steve windwood...I saw him and Stevie Ray the night before Stevie Ray died sad thanks for letting me know I forgot to put blind faith next to Steve windwood
JJ Cale who was Clapton's hero wrote this song and does a great version as well! Clapton was in the Yardbirds,Cream, Derek and the Dominoes,Blind Faith, played with John Mayall, Delaney &Bonnie, George Harrison and the Beatles. He has shared a stage with just about everyone who was big in rock and country music in the 60s and 70s
Some other great guitarists played with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Clapton was replaced by Peter Green, who along with Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass, left to form Fleetwood Mac. Green was replaced by Mick Taylor who then joined the Rolling Stones.
Who is Eric Clapton? Heh. I feel like I just woke up on another planet. FYI, the "addict" rock star Eric Clapton eventually established a rehab clinic.
I know, right? The song trashes cocaine, doesn't glorify it.... These reviewers love to tell us the meaning of the songs, but more often than not they miss badly! 🤣
Eric Clapton is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was with the Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and the Dominos before her started his solo career!
Have you ever heard "Layla" by Derick and the Dominos? That's Eric Clapton too. Plus, he had so many other hits with the band Cream such as "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room" to name just a couple pf them.
My mom actually met and partied with Eric and his old band cream having no idea they were a band. She and her sister did not believe them until they seen an album cover a year later. One of my favorite stories.
Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page are forgotten about when people talk about the great Blues Guitarists. My favorite group he was in was Derek and the Dominos, along side the great Duane Allman!
You should do Cream Sunshine of your love. Ginger Baker was the drummer in Cream and is widely considered in the top handful of greatest drummers. This song was actually written by JJ Cale who wrote quite a few great songs others covered

Cab Calloway , Jumpin' Jive .. thank you 🙏🏻
Tears in Heaven was written after the death of his little boy. It is so moving I can't hear it without crying. But Clapton the rock god is a very different animal.
This song was written by the great JJ Cale who wrote a lot of great tunes that made other artists millions. Call me The Breeze, After Midnight, etc. Saw Cale at Tipitinas in New Orleans in the 70s. Again, later at Jazz Fest in the blues tent. He just passed away a bit ago. Clapton is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Nickname: Slowhand
Eric Clapton was in the Yardbirds from 1963 to 1965, and John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers from 1965 to 1966. After leaving Mayall, he formed the power trio Cream with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, in which Clapton played sustained blues improvisations and "arty, blues-based psychedelic pop". After four successful albums, Cream broke up in November 1968. Clapton then formed the blues rock band Blind Faith with Baker, Steve Winwood, and Ric Grech, recording one album and performing on one tour before they broke up. Clapton then toured with Delaney & Bonnie and recorded his first solo album in 1970, before forming Derek and the Dominos with Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. Like Blind Faith, the band only lasted one album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, which includes "Layla", one of Clapton's signature songs.
Guys, Eric Clapton is one of the British guitarists who picked up on Blues in the late 50s early 60s, playing a part in promoting the music and careers of US players, both in the UK and, ironically, back home in the US.
Eric has had the CROSSROADS music festival every year or so in the Carribean to celebrate his substance abuse center. This song was written by Clapton's friend, J. J. Cale. Eric Clapton got his start in THE YARDBIRDS, then played with JOHN MAYAL and the BLUES BREAKERS. Then he played in CREAM. He played a bit part with the Beatles then went on to BONNIE AND DELANEY. Quickly thereafter he also played in Derek And the Dominos. That is 6 bands he played with in the 60s and early 70s. He went solo, for the rest of his career.
there's this story told by Pete Townshend (he played for The Who and one of the best guitar players of that time), he was hanging out with Eric Clapton (who played for Cream back then and was probably THE best guitar player in the world at that moment). they were hanging out on this bar/club in 1966 and they listened to this UnKnOwN guy playing guitar. Pete was so impressed by him he called his friend Paul McCartney (guitar/bass/singer of The Beatles). when Paul arrived he asked "what was going on?" to his friends. Pete points out to the UnKnOwN guitar player and says "we are ALL soooo fucked!!!" (other sources say it was on the lines of: "we are all outta jobs"). anyways, long story short, the UnKnOwN guitar player they were referencing to was: Jimi Hendrix. Jimi played with Cream and Clapton for one gig one night shortly after that first encounter. they had a short friendship, but Eric knew from the start Jimi was a spicial talent. Eric and Jimi were due to hang out together -but never happened- the nite Jimi died in 1970.
Thank you for sharing this information! I’m a child of 50’s, 60’s and I’ve always loved Eric, Pete, Carlos and Brian May. I’ve tried to find out as much as I could about the players but I’ve never heard this. Jimi would probably have put them all out of jobs, if he had lived longer.
Hear LAYLA. There are two versions. One is slow and one is fast. I like both of them. It’s like listening to two different songs. Eric was hooked on many drugs and put his loved ones through hell. There’s a later version of COCAINE in which he sings of the evils of cocaine.
Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix , Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn is the guitar group you d find Clapton in. A few more others but he s up there pretty high. Give a listen to White Room when he was in the great 60 s group Cream.
Clapton had a comeback of sorts in the 90’s in which he dive right into blues and did some collaborations with some of the blues greats. Tears of Heaven came into it when his little son died, and that song has eclipsed his music ever since. His blues, though is sublime.
My absolute favorite rock song of all time!!!!! i got in trouble slow dancing to this song off the dance floor with someone other than my man one night!!! He laughed it off saying I turn into a zombie when I hear this song in the club!!! Eric ROCKS!!!!!!
Yay!! I can cross this 1 off my list for u to do! He was a part of a few different bands! Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, The Yardbirds, Blind faith, among others! He also has mad solo music as well! This rabbithole is a deep one! I could give u a list of songs, but it would be a mile long! Lol
Eric Clapton is considered one of the greatest guitarists of our time. He is frequently in the top 4 along with Prince, Hendrix, Keith Richards… top caliber. Slow hand is a great album . Journeyman is probably my favourite Clapton album … great blues .
Lots of sides to Eric Clapton. In 2000 he did a collaborative traditional blues album with B.B. King called "Riding with the King". Won a Grammy for that one.
Cocaine was a key ingredient in Coca Cola till 1900. Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about Sherlock Holmes having a Cocaine addiction from 1887-1927. Johnny Cash played a song cocaine blues. Everything anybody thinks is new is a 100-150 years old.
Love Clapton! He is always on my top 5 guitarist list! He is on my bucket list too I want to see him if he comes anywhere near me! Marcin just dropped his arrangement of Clayton’s “Layla” and it is amazing! You should check out some of his live performances!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
My Dad was into classic rock from the 60s & 70s, and this was one of his favorite artists. I’ve heard so much from Clapton. If you haven’t heard it yet, I’d highly recommend checking out two of Cream’s songs: Sunshine of Your Love, and I Feel Free. SO good!
There's a video of Eric Clapton on UTube performing this song in a short that says "NO SNOW NO SHOW". He had a big drug problem. When he was criticized for recording this song he tried to claim that it was an anti-drug song. The media bought but the rest of didn't and loved this song anyway.
Eric Clapton played in many, many bands. The Yardbirds, Blind Faith, Cream, John Mayall's Blues Breakers, Derek and The Dominoes, and his own solo projects. "Cocaine" was written by J.J. Cale, and he has his own version of the song of course, and it is real, real good. Clapton has many musical forms in his loooong career, mostly Blues based, but he can do it all.
Not gonna lie. I had my period of the cocaine life. Number 1 reason I quit, is because I loved it. And the fact I would wake up, and say,” I need get some coke so I can go to work and make more money to buy more cocaine.

My friend who died at age 25 in a motorcycle accident used to play the bass part and sing this song all the time in his band .. not a huge fan of the song but it forever haunts me now.
BP you can spend the rest of ‘24 exploring the bands Clapton was in and the people that came those bands. Think Jimmy Page (Yardbirds and Led Zepplin), Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and solo career).
Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and Dominoes, solo artist. Cream was basically one of the first super groups in rock and roll. (Yardbird members when on to do amazing work but most were not all that famous while in the yardbirds)
He played with Derrick and the Dominoes, as well as Cream. At one point, he was considered the top guitarist; until the night he invited a young black man to come onstage with him. After he heard that guy (Jimmi Hendrix) he said "it's over, I'm NOT the best"
He's got a Crossroads guitar festival to fundraise for a rehab in Antigua that he went to for treatment years ago. That guitar festival has some great music to check out
Eric Clapton released this song in 1977 in the beginning of the cocaine era. This was a stomp back in the day. Lines in the car or on the back of the toilet, wine to smooth out the edges and party!
Dive on Clapton guys. Among the best ever. Yes, in Cream and Derek & the Dominos. Ton of solo. Also, one of the best blues guitarists of all time. Check him out at crossroads. As for a few songs...Sunshine of your Love, White Room, Wonderful Tonight, Tears in Heaven, I Shot the Sheriff. That's just a few. Please check him out jamming with some of the all time great blues guitarists too...not just rock for Eric. 🙂
@@CindyNavarro thanks. I didn't add Layla, bc I thought he said he already reacted to it. But, you are correct, he should see both. Im torn between the two versions because of the piano half of the electric version 🙂
He also starred in the hit musical movie "Tommy" which had all the major artists of the time. Also, in the band jam session at the end of the movie "Blues Brothers 2000". He released an album with BB King before BB passed on. Check out the "Crossroads music festival" video. Cocaine was written JJ Cale, who appeared with Eric on the Crossroads video. He also was a part of the super band at Knebworth, UK, check out that video too. He had a major hit with "Layla".
Always nice to see your buddy along as he seems more musically knowledgeable. You often have a lot of basic questions on these react videos and it is good to have him there to answer rather than hoping you will read the comments to learn.
The Yardbirds - CREAM - Derek And The Domino's- Blind Faith - Bonnie And Delaney with Clapton - The Band & his solo career. Not to mention all the musicians he played guitar for.
We’re at least 20-30 years older than y’all but I think it’s cool to watch younger generations react to that pure, raw, talented musicianship. It’s not glorifying cocaine but it’s a damn fine song! Went to many MANY awesome keg parties and I remember so clearly hearing this! Back in those days there was a lot of gritty tunes and this one sets the bar VERY high! No pun intended.
Speaking of the time ya mentioned for this song, check out Waylon Jennings "Don't You Think this Outlaw Bit's Done got out of Hand". Song from way back then also about the white powder, a recording session and the law. Plenty more of his as well.
The difference between rap and rock is the intention. Hippie music spoke of being high, peace, and love. Rap talks about being a drug dealer, gangs, hate, being a hoe, and lust. Huge difference. Obviously not 100% like this on each side, but overall, especially current rap.
And rock was seen as unseemly by the "adults." Whether it was the lasciviousness of Elvis's hips or the marijuana then LSD use by the hippies and one. Metal was devil music. Etc.
Clapton was in the Yardbirds,Cream, Derek and the Dominoes,Blind Faith, played with John Mayall, Delaney &Bonnie, George Harrison and the Beatles and good friends with SRV. In fact SRV died in Claptons helicopter
Great song, from one of the greatest guitarists ever. Eric has struggled with substance abuse, even spent years in seclusion as part of the battle against his demons. For a long time, Clapton didn't like his vocal ability, and I suspect he also didn't like being the front man for a group. If you haven't reacted to "Layla" you should - it's quite a ride, and some of the guitar work is from Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers. There is nothing new under the sun - celebrating drug culture, and the flip side of battling your addiction, have both been parts of music for a long long time. Clapton has no problem taking controversial stances. Sometimes he's right, sometimes I very much disagree with him. Great artist either way.
When I was in 8th grade I went to the Jr. High 9th grade prom. This would have been May or June on 1980. There was a live band that played Cocaine! for a room full of 15 and 16 year olds 🤣
About 25-30 years ago Eric Clapton opened a rehab center called "Crossroads", named after a famous song by Robert Johnson, one of his 29, and ONLY 29, songs. Clapton also sponsors a festival called The Crossroads Guitar Festival, to help support the rehab center, and all the current great Guitar players are invited, and show up.
Clapton is a quintessential blues player. He's a big Robert Johnson fan (Crossroads). In fact, as a recovering addict he founded the Crossroads Center and annual concert for getting and staying sober. Check out this song, Hoochie Coochie Man performed at the first Crossroads concert. It a stop-time blues and its fire! ua-cam.com/video/G0FJCsOV7CA/v-deo.html. He's got a great version or two of the classic blues song Stormy Monday. BB King was a friend and he did concerts and an album with him as well. One of my rock favs is Layla and then the unplugged version is even better. It's about when he fell in love with Patti Boyd, George Harrison's wife who divorced George and married (and later divorced) Clapton. Strangely it didn't break up the friendship between them.
He is the only 3 time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee! Yardbirds,Cream and Solo career. He is a great guitarist and vocalist!

Eric Clapton is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was with the Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and the Dominos before her started his solo career!
Also Delaney Bonnie, john mayall and the bluesbreakers.
John Mayall provided a wonderful proving ground for so many amazing musicians.

Great list! I would add Layla... both versions. I prefer Clapton's slower version, but the faster version by Derek & the Dominoes is excellent too.
Layla, from his Derek and the Dominoes era is a fantastic song, with great guitar.
Check out Clapton and Bonamassa doing "Further On Up The Road" live.
This song is a cautionary tale. The key lines are "she don't lie" and "don't forget this fact, you can't get it back."
Derek and the Dominoes...Layla... good place to start. She don't lie she don't lie she don't lie cocaine.
Clapton is a must watch live!!
Eric was in Cream with the legendary ginger baker
Always nice to see your buddy along as he seems more musically knowledgeable. You often have a lot of basic questions on these react videos and it is good to have him there to answer rather than hoping you will read the comments to learn.
The Yardbirds - CREAM - Derek And The Domino's- Blind Faith - Bonnie And Delaney with Clapton - The Band & his solo career. Not to mention all the musicians he played guitar for.
When I use to go out on the weekends, this song was always played. Everyone would yell, she don't lie,she don't lie, cocaine!
disco was the end of the 70's into the 80's Eric Clapton was a Blues purist. Big time with a BIG catalog
Yes,he was with Cream. This song came out in 1977,at a time when a song about Cocaine wasnt inappropriate.
These riffs are so sick
I remember dancing to this so many times!❤We all sang along.
Cream, the Yardbirds, Derek and the Dominoes. Just to name a few of his bands
I remember when this album came out. We listened to it from beginning to end and again and again and ........
Who is cream? Only like the first supergroup
The other group is called Cream and they are amazing
This was great rollerskating music back in the 80s.
Eric Clapton is a master guitarist and is an icon of rock n roll, absolutely. He was part of at least 2 bands before his solo career, I believe.
When I was in 8th grade I went to the Jr. High 9th grade prom. This would have been May or June on 1980. There was a live band that played Cocaine! for a room full of 15 and 16 year olds 🤣
JJ Cale wrote this and many other songs that various artists covered and made hits.
Eric Clapton has a huge music kegacy
We were dancing to this in the early 80’s!! Everyone was doing cocaine. It just started coming out in the early 80’s. This was a huge hit!!
He originally played in 5 different groups and then solo and then collabed with multiple other
About 25-30 years ago Eric Clapton opened a rehab center called "Crossroads", named after a famous song by Robert Johnson, one of his 29, and ONLY 29, songs. Clapton also sponsors a festival called The Crossroads Guitar Festival, to help support the rehab center, and all the current great Guitar players are invited, and show up.
This hole album is a gem….
It’s always good to have a gem of a hole, I say!
Had a band in army played bass this was our opener
John Mayalls Blues Breakers, Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Bonnie & Delaney and friends, Derek and the Dominoes.......not to mention his own bands
He should check out some John Mayall
Yes
Eric is one of the best blues musicians on the planet Listen to Hurts Me To If you like the blues You will love this
"Cocaine" was THE song I remember from when I first started hitting nightclubs circa 1977-78.
