I agree with the previous comment. I wrapped my first bird box today and I could not have done it without your help. You are a good instructor. While I have seven more to build and wrap, I have one that is unique. No matter how I try to build it looks like crap so I don't nail it. I have to figure it out. THANK YOU!

I'm actually an interior finish guy and have never attempted to cover a bird box... I figured I needed a roll of tin and a break but this is far superior! I only have 2 birdboxes and this video saved me from renting a break for them.

Where the fascia returns to the gable wall we would leave it long and bend out a tab to nail to the gable. Where you notched out the return for the wood fascia don’t break out the tab leave it bent out to flash the joint. Where the rake cap runs by the ‘bird box’ we install some aluminum under sill trim to house the cut edge. Less visible nails all around. I often used a small 15 degree parallelogram block to fold in end tabs on windowsill covers. Fascia return bends can be done in the ends of the brake. Invest in some flanging pliers and red lefts and green rights. The Vee you put in fascia bottom cuts is necessary to allow an over bend offsetting spring back.

Awful heavy hammer, for such small nails.

You should use 8” fascia, then you wouldn’t have to Mickey Mouse it, with that extra strip. Sorry

That little piece could have been behind the bird box wrap around. So looking up you dont see the seam.

Nice technique. If you use a regular roll of metal, however, and a break, there’s no need to extend the height of the bird box. Also, capping the corners is a simple way to enhance the professionalism and aesthetic of the metal.

Thanks for taking time to record this video while you’re working, great job. You're well-spoken and a good teacher. I like the trick of turning the blade around for nicer cut on the vinyl soffit. An alternate I did on my house is to cut the vinyl in a jig like yours and use a 7 ¼” diamond blade (like a tile saw) on a cordless saw. Works really good.
