I've read Little Women so now I'm going to try to read the others in that series this year. I plan on reading Middlemarch and Silas Marner this year! Happy to hear you enjoyed those.

I loved Michener’s Alaska. I read it decades ago and still remember how great it was. I love Elizabeth Jane Howard too. I am about to start Daniel Deronda. I’ve read all of Pym, love them all so much. Can You Forgive Her was amazing and I couldn’t put it down. You have some great reading coming up! Thanks for showing them.
I will get Alaska if I enjoy Hawaii, I've always been interested in Alaska as a place because of the TV show Northern Exposure which is a favourite of mine. Happy to hear there are other Howard fans around 😁
Fun! I want to do a TBR too. I think I'll do cozy books for 2025. I am going to put the final Maisie Dobbs on that list (I think you'll enjoy the series). PS September starts in I think May and ends in September, so it's also really fun for a summer read.

I just started listening to "The rest is history" podcast a few weeks ago! Loving it so far. Will be adding Rubicon to my 2025 TBR as well. I grew up near Louisa May Alcott's house so I read Little Women as a kid, but that is definitely one I'd like to reread since its been so long. Great list!
It's such a great podcast, it's massive in the UK. I particularly like the long series they do like the one of Custer & Crazy Horse, or the fall of the Aztecs. We don't have any famous authors where I am from, which is impressive really, it is a very illiterate place.

Only 8 for me! 😉I do own the big Mitford letter book but I’m not ready for that yet despite loving big books. I’m reading the 1000 page Brontë’s biography by Juliet Barker this year for example. Far from the Madding Crowd is a happier Hardy, I love Mary Barton and Can You Forgive Her is one of my favorite Trollope’s. Enjoyed Little Women and Invisible Life of, but a couple of your classics didn’t work for me personally 😬. I think I’ve read the first seven in the Masie Dobbs series and really enjoy them. They start off in the interwar years but I think later they get into the Second World War which would work well with your reading of that period. I’m just winging it this year and seeing where my reading takes me!
@@josmith5992 I'm hearing lots of good things about Maisie Dobbs so that's good. I think the Brontes probably deserve 1000 pages, an odd family for sure. I will look forward toMaddening Crowd then, I do tend towards the less miserable books.

I've only read 4 on your list -- The Thin Man, Little Women, Far From the Madding Crowd (check out the l967 movie with Julie Christie, Terence Stamp, Alan Bates and Peter Finch.The cinematography and music are gorgeous.), and Less Than Angels. I am a "Pymite" and regularly re-read her novels. You're right in that there is something enjoyable iin each one.. But I think my favorite is the one I read first: Excellent Women. I kept hearing Emma Thompson as the voice of Mildred Lathbury. What do you think? I've been collecting ebooks by Eliizabeth Jane Howard whenever they've gone on sale and now I have all of them. I just need to read them:) I've read some books by Nancy and Jessica Mitford, as well as a biography of the family. I have an ebook on Diana.Those letters look interesting. 2025 is my Proust year, as well as The Arabian Nights. Otherwise, the books that have caught my interest are from 20th century female writers. Seems to be a theme there.

I just finished Madding Crowd a couple of days ago. I'm still trying to work out how much I liked it. It definitely has plenty of merits, super well-written, but I'm not sure I enjoyed it wholeheartedly. But I suspect you'll like it more than I did.

The Unwomanly Face of War was such an amazing book. It had such an important perspective and really influenced how I see the whole time period.

@ I mean, misery is definitely a strong element. It’s not constant though. I’ve been told Jude the Obscure is much more relentlessly miserable.
I am so curious about your thoughts on all of these books. If you want a buddy, I am wanting to re-read Little Women sometime this year.
A buddy read would be fun! It would have to be later in the year for me, perhaps any time after April.
