My name is David and with my dog Lefty we travel the country in our ambulance conversion RV. I made this change to my life and you can too! Like, subscribe and comment! Lefty would appreciate it - he wants the adventures to keep coming!
The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel engine and a 4 speed 4R100 transmission. Lefty is a 68lb American Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter (www.vsas.org/) in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. We have been living full time in the campulance since July 2019. #ambulancelife #vanlife #staffordshireterrier
The Love in Leftys eyes when he looks at you....Priceless, David. Just Priceless.
He does give me some strong eye contact and there are times when I chuckle a little at it - he makes me feel so good :)
@TheCampulanceMan they give back what they receive. How I know your a great person. Lefty told us...
@@michaeltichonuk2176 I hope he thinks so :)
The statue thing represents the Oklahoma scissortail. The state bird. And at night that bridge is beautiful looking at night because it is lit up and changes colors.
Lefty says: “but Dad do we really have to leave cause this grass feels awesome!!!” 😂🐶💙
Yep, soft cool green grass under Lefty's feet. He's in doggy comfort.
Hello David & Lefty…If you’re going to go through Illinois, then I’m guessing you’ll be taking I-80 East. I just moved to Merrillville, IN which is just south of 80 & 94 at the 65 intersection. Be safe & remember there’s no reason to push yourself. Remember you’re retired and can take your time! Enjoy the ride! Safe travels 😎
That giant cross! Dracula will never mess with Texas.
I cannot tell you how much good you and Lefty add to my day. Keep on keeping on!
I always enjoy these cross-country ambulance, caravans, even if it’s only a team of one, er, two….
There is also something very sad about heading home. That is what I said on the last episode. It’s just so sad. ..
Thank you for another wonderful episode you and Lefty .
That’s the Skydance bridge it cost $5.8 million dollars to build it is 380 foot-long 197 foot tall open in 2012 designed by S-X-L it looks cool
Nothing like that open road and feeling “freedom” Pump through your veins!!! Be safe!!✌️ 😂
Thanks for sharing your adventures. Love Lefty's little rebellion LOL. Stay safe my friends.
That sculpture is a scissortail! 👍
The amusement park you passed just before you took 44 East to Tulsa is "Frontier City". Frontier City is a western/cowboy themed park that includes cowboy shoot 'em up scenes, amusement rides, and concerts. It first opened in Oklahoma City in 1958.
I saw that!
That road through ok city is crazy, really got to concentrate when I drive through there. And Oklahoma the toll capital of the mid west
Yup - the only tolls we paid were there and NY :/
I love the way you do your travel videos because I feel like I’m traveling right with you. Brings back some awesome memories for me. Lefty sure lets you know when he’s ready for his time. Such a good boy. ❤❤
Thank you for being along with us :)
Me too, its like we are traveling with you
I laughed so hard when Lefty just stood his ground and sat down! "Nope I'm not ready to get in the campulance! "
That's his famous position when he's challenging my decision :)
Thanks, David and Lefty 👍
Enjoy your lunch! ❤ David and Lefty ❤
I have stayed at the same place you started your video at. So many places are familiar. I sure understand the need for green. After all the brown you experience it sure is refreshing. I remember one stop where they were cutting the grass and it just smelled so good.
The fresh cut grass smell! We were at one stop and they had just cut... it smelled like springtime as a kid :)
Drive safe and take your time
I really love these videos of the long drives as I very much enjoy those long road trips myself. I just wish you enjoyed it too! I can tell it takes a toll on you with the stress and anxiety. Looking forward to the next adventure ✌️
Had a rough day watching this video was relaxing. You & Lefty make me eager to get back living on the road. Thanks so much. Blessings. ❤
I am glad you are enjoying the travels :)
David I think there needs to be a National Campulance Association ,People could get together and put out a monthly newsletter using the Email. I think this idea is gaining popularity and so much can be learned from one another !
I need a secretary :)))
Yea, that would add stress, too much time stuck in front of a computer and that's not why YOU do this and share your days with us. I'm sorry, I think this is a bad idea. Let Dave relax and share the way he always has. Don't put more on him, not fair. Life is too short to get wrapped up in more crap. Be happy he is so generous with his time abreast. You saw what the sweet potato gleaning did to exhaust Dave. So ✋️ Stop.
The sculpture in OKC is at Scissor Tail park the sculpture is supposed to be a Scissor Tail Fly catcher, which is the state bird of Oklahoma 😎
There's the info I needed :) Thank You!
You sure had some beautiful driving weather. Happy to see those storms missed ya so far. I laughed when Lefty planted himself in that grass 😂 I know that look! Coming from the desert that must have been a real treat for you and Lefty ❤
I'm first‼️hi David and Lefty
Hi David and Lefty: love your travel vids. As a trucker traveling across the states the green and brown sounds real understandable to me. But most people don't travel like that they take airplanes so I was always surprised at how much people didn't understand the difference between east coast and west coast landscaping.
It's not just E vs W, it's also a N/S thing. I remember driving down to North Carolina from CT one April. Trees were barely starting to bud here -- everything was still very brown -- and when we got there it looked like everything was in full summer. Trees had leaves. Summer flowers were blooming. Grass was green.
You cannot beat traveling on the ground from edge to edge! It's such a beautiful country we have any most folks don't get to see it like this :)
Your dog is amazing good boy lefty!!!! later bye
The western part of Okla. is flat and the eastern part is called “Green Cpuntry” due to the rolling hills and green foliage. You were near Claremore where the famous Will Rogers Museum is located. Earlier you were really close to where I live.
The rolling hills are some of my favorites! Not too steep, nice smooth, long hills that the rig seems to really love!
Tell Lefty to use a Gatorade bottle like the rest of us.
David I ordered one of those E-bike's you have. Should be here Friday....:)
Excellent! I brought it back here for my daughter to use so that her girlfriend can ride along with her :) She loves it :)
Hi David & Lefty! Great video, I very much enjoyed the ride! Take care and stay safe!❤️🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼❤️🐶❤️
David, I just thought of a brilliant idea! Get Lefty an indoor outdoor grass mat to sit on in the rig when traveling! 🫣 😳 🤗 🤣 👍👍👍
He'll probably protest the fact that it's not real!!!
The MO reststops at approximately mm 110, are really super nice.
Love these traveling videos….. gosh the music is always so awesome on these videos. Good picks. Lefty so gentle on those walk alerts ‼️
Hope the other ambulance guy watches this
Safe travels ❤
It felt so great to be in the greenery. We really missed walking in grass...
The color green is just so restful to my eyes. Looks like a good trip so far. I wish you could have turned the back cam on after passing that other ambulance just to see how quickly he fell behind 😁Lefty is being such a good boy. Extra treat from me?
We would stop for 20 or 30 minutes, then they would catch up to us. They fell behind on the hills I'm sure but they were doing it!!!
Oh those expensive OK toll roads!! MO next stop, LOL. GREAT video as always. The traveling videos are my favorite. Safe travels Dave and Lefty.❤❤ yep, great to see green.
I must have missed something because the motorcycle is not on the back.
I came here to ask the same question. 😂
the only one was the e bike, when did that happen.
Love your choice of background music
Glad I'm not the only one that noticed the gas gas missing.
There's a story coming...
How can you not love Lefty? Park this rig Dad I want out. Hope you are doing great, be safe sir
Enjoy your road trip videos! FYI Bass Pro Shop in Springfield MO. has a huge free overnight parking lot around back.
Be safe out there my friend. Take care and give love to Lefty for me ❤🙏
if it's a 6.0 with a tow tune that thing will tow like a mad dog
Or v 10
David, it is called scissor tail bridge
but daddy its grass, do I really have to go now?
I can hardly do anything without Dughall the Westy sticking his nose into my business, so the opening scene with you trying to cut your fingernails made me laugh pretty hard. I just bought a tiny teardrop camper to tow with my Jimny, so in some very small way I'm now "fleet" LOL. I've got a music festival at the end of the month so just a few weeks to get it fitted out (solar, fridge etc).
Have a blast at the festival!
Great video David,Lefty seams a little lost.🤩👍👍🐶
I would love to see your cooking next time. Thanks for the videos. Love them all
Safe travels too you and Lefty🙏🏻❤🙏🏻 I bet he is a lot company on those long drives.
If you are ever in Northwest Arkansas, we are just 1 hour south Joplin, Missouri. Beautiful & great places to camp.
Thank you! Our rig is from Arkansas!
Thanks for your reply your figures shows your paying £3.60 per gallon compared to our costs = £7.20.
While you're in Oklahoma, look up smokey Joe's Barbecue. You can camp there for $40.
Years ago I55 in MO did away or repurposed a couple rest areas. They bulldozed the restrooms and either put in a porta potty or it's now a weigh station. I suspect that one is you mention will just be basic truck parking after they are done. Same with the old welcome center. It is now a long way from the state line. Budget cuts.
It was the Illinois welcome center that I was talking about - I had my states mixed up. When we drive by it they had leveled the entire thing and were flattening the ground it looked like :/
nice /very nice/be safe /so your getting good fuel mileage/thanks much
The digital mpg gauge isn't totally accurate. It calculates based on speed and throttle position and engine load I believe. I use it to see the changes based on rpm and boost levels.
Ya might need to adjust your headlights, either the drivers left is down or passenger right is too high..notice that while you were driving at night 👍👍👍☮️
sleep is what your body craves on a long road trip.
Lol when Lefty was sitting in his seat with sleepy eyes it’s like he was saying ‘are we there yet?’
His face was telling a story for sure...
Hey David and Lefty, you're getting there. I suppose you don't use RV or truck map app for height of your rig. Safe travels. 👍
Driving into spring
Lefty need a treat!!! Liked#303 N Subscribed !!!
That's a good price for Deciel. I just paid 3.49 for gas in Kentucky before I left to go back to NC.
Texas and Oklahoma had the lowest prices. I saw $3.34 for diesel!
Be safe!!!!!!!!!
Hi Campulance Man and Lefty..."Come on Lefty, come on...(Lefty promptly drops anchor) Lefty!?...Hahahahahaha Now let's see...just who is really running this operation???
I wonder that myself sometimes!!!
Rest stops seem to be a major part of your travel itinerary ....Do you ever take advantage of overnite casino parking ???? Am really big on COE camping also as the price is usually right and half off whatever that is if you have the America the Beautiful pass....We have he senior one...Cost us $80 and paid for itself the very first yr we had it...Travel safe, you and Lefty be well...
You can also park and camp at all of the fair grounds across the US free. They have electrical hookups as well.
@@cynthiaclark3000 I have seen many fairgrounds that they charge for but your right, there are still many who do not....One thing id like to look into more i havent done is small town city parks across the U.S. especially middle America...They seem to be more plentiful than i was aware of.....
Rest stops are a part of some trips - others we stay overnight at wildlife areas, NF, BLM... it depends on the trip and the area.
I live in Oklahoma. Yahoo
Howdy neighbor.
Love your travel videos David! I must ask…. Have you noticed a decline in the country since you started traveling? I’ve been on the road for a couple months and things just seem not as friendly, clean or nice as they did last time I traveled like this about 5 years ago. I do spend more time in cities for work so maybe that’s it?
Hey coolchange ✌️
Over all it seems the same to me. When we started traveling it was just as the lock down was gearing up so things were a lot quieter then - that's about all I notice.
David, you're like a dog circling before lying down.
That's hilarious!!! I sure was!
ILL. HAS REAL GOOD REST AREAS. WISCONSIN IS THE SAME WAY.
They've torn up my favorite one! I hope the new version is good too :)
You are going to be, coming very very close to my house, if you branch off on 44. Sapulpa Exit. Wowzer
I live in Missouri and that's one of my gripes. Missouri puts those darn chatter bumps right on the edge of the driving lane instead of out a ways so you end up running over them all the time. Thanks for mentioning that. Safe travels to you and Lefty.
That was kinda annoying... I kept tapping them inadvertently.
@@TheCampulanceMan I bet it annoyed Lefty too. I know my dog hated them.
Nice
Some of Texas Road are pretty beaten up. Rt# 35 North . They resurface it constantly.
The I40 is so nice after crossing from NM... what a breather :)
@TheCampulanceMan I am sure the grass and trees are a nice change from the desert. I usually take 10 East from Texas to Florida, then 95 north to New York, then on to Boston to go home
🌼
Just by watching lefty on this journey he's definitely done with your adventures. Dogs would like to retire and veg just as much as us older folk do. I'd venture to say Lefty won't want to do this again you might have to find another traveling companion if you are going to keep up this nomadic life.😢
I don't see that at all. He may be bored on this long trek home but that's not the norm for their lives. He seems to enjoy being in the ambulance and visiting new places and they've been doing it a long time. Dave is a good doggy daddy and I think Lefty would be miserable without him.
He was in travel mode - he just goes into low gear when we're driving :)
😊
❤
What happened to the motorcycle?
There's a story to come :)
Suggestion: Always stay with your vehicle when using the gas pumps. What if the pump handle fell out? What if someone threw a cigarette butt at the pump? What if the vehicle caught fire with Lefty still inside?
I didn’t know there were Gas pump police!
@@h2o100c It's actually a law in most states that you can't leave a pump unattended. So, there are gas pump police, and even diesel pump police.
Hey David, any plans to upgrade that stereo head unit this summer? Been a couple years hasn't it?
We just upgraded last summer and this one is so good that it'll be with us for a while :)
Texas takes like 3 days to cross, the most boring drive ever.
Lefty: "His Master's Voice, my ass-ter's voice. Yadda-yadda-yadda."
I'm interested to know what would you say your average speed is and how many miles can you expect per gallon
I drive between 62 - 65 mph and we average 13mpg overall :) The lower the speed, the higher the mpg.
Hey David.. does the truck have cruise control?
Yes it has cruise. I definitely use it :)
I'm from the UK our diesel cost at the moment is £1.60 per litre which amounts to about £7.20 a gallon. Can you please confirm the costs with you
We saw as low as $3.30 / gallon for diesel in Texas and Oklahoma and as high as $4.60 in Ohio and NY. When we left Arizona it was $4.50 / gallon there.
David what happened to the dirt bike ?
Look at 25:14. Dave has his dirt bike on the back on his truck.
@@melissahoffman4687 that looks like his electric bike and not the red gas gas dirt bike
Story to come...
Do You have to change injectors or glow plugs on an engine like that?
It has both - I haven't had to change them :)
3.09 a gallon for unleaded? Where was that at? It's over 4 bucks here in the Phoenix area.
Greeley, Colorado...$3.19
That's diesel. 2.99/unleaded
Texas and Oklahoma both had low pricing. AZ was much higher when we left there :/
where is the GasGas?
That's gonna be a story to come... :)
✌️🙏👍
I would just take a day somewhere quiet. Do you have appointments you have to keep? Isn't living the nomad life partly about freedom to adjust your agenda? P.S. glad you found a great spot to get some good sleep❣️
We've spent the last several months doing whatever we feel like... so a handful of days driving isn't bad :)
There is BLM land in green states as well. May be a nice option if you’re open to meandering around to see another part of the country.
I hate to tell you this, but your motorcycle 🏍️ fell off 😢
I went back and looked for it... no joy :(
To me, Texas is boring to drive, though. You are a great traveler, David. I always enjoy Lefty taking telling you to hurry up. Lol
Stay out of Texas ! 🇺🇸
@myjeepwjarebuildpaulsteven7986 Why I lived there most of my life. Both my children were born there, too. It has some pretty spots, but it is boring to drive through.
What happened to you lip
Stress or cold sore
