When the omicron variant struck New York, Long Island hospital medical employees already were exhausted and overworked. Now, the virus was hitting their own staff. In the week ending Jan. 3, 25% of women in labor and delivery and postpartum at Long Island Jewish Medical Center tested positive, with a high of 22 positive results on Dec. 31.
