That would depend on what gender you were, where you were born, if you were drafted into the Vietnam War, what race you were..... It wasn't all fantastic music and culture.
This sure brings back great memories. I used to see the "Chocolate Watchband" at the Cocoanut Grove in Santa Cruz quite often! "People" and "Stained Glass" were also two of my favorite groups from San Jose.
The C.Wband was a band ahead of their time.. saw them many times in the bay area in the '60's..they covered all hits of the Stones, Yardbirds, Love, Kinks, 13th Fl Elevators, etc.. true, they had few hits of their own-drugs of the day hampered them but they still were way better than any rap, hiphop crap bands of today..
I just discovered you guys and I’m absolutely in love. Besides The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn I think The Inner Mystique might be my favorite psych rock album of all time! I just bought it on vinyl too
@UncleBlunt I wish people would take the time to look around for music that fits their tastes these days. I have numerous modern psychedelic/rock/pop bands that I listen to on a daily basis that are very talented. Music changes over time, not necessarily becomes worse.
If you'd like to hear some good modern music with that beautiful nostalgic sound, check out bands like The Go, Black Hollies, Buffalo Killers, or even Radio Moscow!!

Been taking too many drugs...check out Brian Jonestown Massacre, Miike Snow, Ra Ra Riot, Phoenix, Two-Door Cinema Club. Newer music in the genre has developed a different sound, I have yet to find one that sticks directly its roots.

Really? That's fucking insane! Was it a major? Or major of the time? Its such a shitty thing to do to a band but I understand why record companies did such things.....I just found about this band so I know none of the lore.
i love the choclate watch band,,, pity they couldnt have avoided the draught,, they could have been contenders. nice one nicobitles,, good post,,,loose lips synch ships..
I agree with you there....somewhere along the line, popular music just went on a downward spiral....music today makes little sense...and really has no talent...
Interesting arguments that are going on here...I would agree with the "music of today sucks" people, but they seems to believe that all music today sucks...but it's mostly just mainstream music (nickleback, theory of a dead man, + all the other nickleback sound-alikes as well as all mainstream pop, rap, and mainstream country). Believe it or not, there are actually a couple of good pop bands out there (indie pop, that is, not mainstream...listen to The Sounds).
To me it sounds like nobody is really trying it for the fact they love music, it's just to now strictly a form of making money. Some bands don't ever at all consider the intelligence of their audiences who in fact are making the move to look back at the classic rock some new bands are lifting their licks from but not making the right sounds/lyrics/feel to go with what they picked up listening to older things before going with their own creativity if it's in them in the first place, usually not.
@thebigfatyoyo if people listen to the chocolate watchband, they might have tried to find some new music aswel since Chocolate watchband is not that easy to find. anyways, I agree there is some good music today too, there is SO much music!! But in the sixties, the music was better. and thats just a question of music taste.. thats mine
Just like there are psych rock gems, there are also rap and hiphop gems, dude. You just haven't found the rap and hiphop gems yet, or you simply don't like the genre, but saying this music beats another genre... I dunno.
Most people digging this kind of music won't regularly listen to rap or hip hop, let alone be aware of the 'gems' that may or may not exist thereto. They're kind of opposed genres. It's like raising the topic of traditional ethnic music on a forum devoted to music of the Baroque or Classical era. Apples to pineapples.
@@jamesaron1967 I listen to A LOT of hip hop, mainstream and underground, around the globe, I produce it too, but it's like, 90 percent of it is just meaningless and monotonous, whilst even the minor garage psychedelic bands have put out so much interesting music. My opinion, no offense.

@TheRealCritique in this time we have bands that are in the mainstream and underground that are flat out incredible. It happened in the 60's, the 70's, the 80's, the 90's, the 00's and it still happens to this day. Now your definition of an incredible band is unclear, is it the musicianship or lyricism, their on stage presence or attitude? You throw out rap as a serious form of music, so i can see that you have no respect for music that you do not understand. Let me know
Which rap gems? All rap music sounds the same, every song has the same rhythm, no melodies. When it comes to creativity and great melodies, the sixties were usurpassed, its the least you can say
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. A CD is much closer to the way the music was played than anything ever put on vinyl. LP's have inherent distortion and lack the dynamic range of CD's. As with all recordings it all about the production values. Get a good producer and engineer and you get a good recording.
man, music of today is way better than this. I'd rather listen to Just sum Beaver any day over this. and also, i'd rather listen to Nickleback. they're a way better band. probly the best band ever, them and Creed, they're the 2nd best band ever

San Jose really has been a drag for bands that are just starting out. All the venues are now nightclubs with DJ booths instead of a stage.
