Excellent idea attaching them to the receiver. I have four of the pucks and it still is a pain trying to keep them up while putting the jack stands under them. Lower the Jack, raise the jack etc. until you get it right. You eliminated the problem. Thanks.
I saw this video a long time ago and found it very helpful. Lately I've been thinking there's an even better way to do this. Your video inspired me to try my own solution. The rubber pads didn't work for me as the ones I bought had way too much play in them, but I also had 4 metal jackpads already. Aha moment this past weekend: VELCRO. Added some velcro strips to the inside of the adapter and the top of the metal pucks and now i can stick them up when i need to jack the car up, but don't have to have them on the car all the time!
I just cut four hockey pucks to the rough dimensions of the jack pads (e.g. the ones all over Amazon), making each a bit "taller" than those (with the rectangular portion larger, so it's sure to contact the top of the pocket on the frame rail. Drilled a small hole in the short ends of each pocket and screwed them in place with 2 small screws. They're now fixed in place, and invisible. Love it.
Do you permanently attach your hockey pucks to your lift pads?? If not, then the tire center will destroy your lift pads in short order. Hence, the reason for the video in the first place. haha
What a brilliant idea. I bought the hocky pucks and tried it today. I broke the plastic clips on the support pad. Off to Amazon to buy new ones (which will never need be removed) in the future. Thanks Tommy.
I’m surprised that BMW or any other company for that matter hasn’t thought of this. I guess it’s another way for BMW to keep making money after they sell you the car. Good job man. I’m gonna go to Amazon and get me some parts to make these.
Great vid. If your jack stands are like mine, the tops are an upside down arch as seen from the side and rectangular as seen from above. I'd suggest trimming a little off the round part of the adapters, parallel to the long side of the rectangular part so that the adapter fits down into the top of the jack stand instead of resting on top of it.
Tommy just a simple idea to stop the creaking noise in the jack apply some lube lmao - But great video - and cost saving - because usually you must by the bottom insert and the jack insert separately - thank you for taking your time and showing us.
@@TommyLGarage For the $1200 or so they go for at Costco...I'd say they are the cheapest lift type solution on the market. You will thank yourself every time you use them.
@@TommyLGarage I can't get the jack under the mid section not even with a low profile jack Dytona. I have a carbon fiber front lip that sticks out 5 inches. I need another method, like adding additional jack points next to the existing ones.
Don't they sell milled down hockey pucks in all E90 forums? Have them for years... And I wouldn't want to go any thicker on the mounts permanently, nice way to rip them off if you drive lowered.
TOMMY! I want a set because I'm to lazy to do all that crap and find 8 matching screws........... You want to get real fancy just invent 4 pneumatic dampers to take their place so the car lift when you connect your compressor hose thru a quick disconnect.
Hmm aluminum circle with rubber attached costume made. Did it on mine held by one bolt in middle. You won’t have the wear problem easier to get to and you could even color it for fast eye catch….. your idea works but again those things would need maintenance. My idea won’t and even attached extra ones like one in the middle of car. Faster to get two wheels off the ground.
Use hockey pucks on the floor jack and stands. That way you don’t attach anything to your car. Simple and a lot cheaper than 40.00 a pop. Yes it will work on conventional jack stands. Or buy some jack stands that have flat tops from Esco. I applaud your effort but not necessary to go through that much trouble. As far as worrying about damage at a shop, no BMW dealer is going to cause damage and really how often is an independent shop going to be lifting your car and causing damage they aren’t responsible to replace. For you DYI’er do you homework. Hockey pucks also don’t sustain any permanent indentation like your pads display. Any sporting goods place has them for a few dollars each. Buy the practice pucks as they are softer. Not my idea but I use them all the time.
I certainly hope you don’t sell these. Cobbling this together with parts from unknown vendors on Amazon and then saying oh well if it goes wrong I’ll hide behind my LLC. If the viewers want to try your ideas, let them, but don’t sell them the parts to do it.
Yes I’ll take a set Tommy Oh and like I said you probably don’t sleep at night and your alter personality instead of making soap invents stuff (Fight club reference)
You do realise those relievers on the bottom of the car are designed for almost any scissors jack to slot into and jack the car up, right? The idea is that any idiot can put it in, jack up the car and not have it fall on them because it slipped off. It's not BMW being sly trying to make you buy things.

This is exactly what I do! I have 4 adapters with Velcro that I install to use when using my Quick Jack. Makes life very easy and is removeable!

I use hockey pucks on my BMW’s, works like a charm. Cost $2 dollars
Glenns Car Collection but I don’t play hockey :(

Amazing fix Tommy. I always hated moving the jack back & forth to adjust the jack pad. Started smiling when I saw your fix.
I just replaced my pads. I like your idea. Thanks!
Happy to hear!
This man is a genius ! I gotta do this
Great!!!
A piece of plastic that attaches to a piece of plastic that attaches to the car. Where does BMW find such genius engineers?
Haha

I love this invention. Best of luck with it!
The jack pad adaptors are aluminum? Just got them in the mail. Shouldnt they be rubber to prevent slippage?
Rubber is good. Aluminum is fine too. They won’t slip either way.
Hey there great video, could you tell me what model is the silver floor jack? I want to get the same one.
Ingenious. I didnt know this jack stand issue bothered as many people as it does me. Guess I'm not the only car guy with a M3 OCD. 😂
Tazmn Wilson now I know I’m also not alone! Haha
I did the same thing but made it removeable. Piece of Velcro on the adapter and point and install it when ready to use.
Great idea !
so simple yet an amazing idea!
How about removing jack pad ?
Under jack pads there is solid metal and you can just jack it without any jack adapter I think
Pretty solid idea. But then you risk slipping
genius!
great idea
Thanks! Did you end up doing the same ?
@@TommyLGarage I have ordered the parts. Am def gonna do it on all 3 of my BM's
Great for newer cars. Unfortunately you'll have to remove the adapter if you're using the standard bmw jack which fits into the receiver.
Beauty solution!
Thanks!
“it gets deformed obviously! but it stays in place!” 😂😂 it’ll look exactly like the original ones you just replaced in no time...
haha
hi. in one of your videos you mentioned that you added a set of larger exhaust tips. can you give a link to those? they look great
Thanks. They are made by a company named Cyba
That's actually pretty smart haha, wish they just came from the dealership like that

You really should try out the QuickJacks. Coupled with these pads, that would be the perfect solution.

Why not just cut off the remaining broken off side walls part? Make it flat
That is the solution i came to also

Tommy you should really consider the liability you will create for yourself by making these and selling them to the public.
My pods got damaged when I was getting wheels done and an alignment
LLC protected. I also don’t sell them really. I’ve got extras that’s all

$40 each or for all 4s?

Careful, if your car is lowered and you tackle a larger then normal size speed bump these may get ripped right off.
