You just blew my mind... Taking out that crash hit makes the groove sound way more contiguous... Such a simple change that makes it sound more organic--less mechanical.
He kinda addresses that in the middle of the video. It’s not an absolute (there are definitely times to crash on 1!) but there are a lot of folks, especially younger players, that get stuck in a rut of ending every 4 bars with a crash on 1. I interpreted the video as really being more geared toward those folks.
