  • Jonathan Coulton and guest ukulele slinger Kristen Shirts perform "Tom Cruise Crazy," a song that was clearly written to be a uke/bass duet, at Union Hall, Brooklyn, 1/30/07
The instruments Jonathan and Kristen are playing are actually the same size. Kristen is just much, much larger than Jonathan is, and that messes with the perspective.

Really, really great song. Compassionate satire. Who'd have thought it was possible? Kudos. More uke and bass songs! More! More!

This video is amaaazing, but its amazingness is tripled due to the hysterical description. Clearly the instruments are the same size.

Good combination, and nice job. I have the same Dean Playmate bass that JoCo is playing, and it sounds just like that, even if I don't use a pick. Actually, it's hard to make it sound better, but it was really inexpensive, so I can't complain.
Jay Leonhardt has a great song called "It's Impossible to Sing and Play the Bass" about exactly that.

Yah its freaking hard most bass parts even forward ones are so far off from the melody you brain needs to split in two. But there are plenty of famous bassist that do it. Sting, Billy Idol Gene Simmons, Mark Hoppus, Paul McCartney, Lemmy, Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, Mark King.
    And myself

Hell yeah man,the bass needs more sound, everyone drowns it out,and the uke needs more popularity aswell, kind of funny this song the bass part drowns out the uke,but still, hell yeah.

Yeah, I had to wikipedia this one... and even after that I still don't know how you came to this conclusion. Please don't compare some stupid role-model of yours to the figure-head of a religion that is practiced throughout the world and has sustained much persecution throughout the years.
