    JACKSON'S UPDATE THREAD:
    (for those of you who are interested)
    Today my Mum sent me a photo of something that came in the mail. It was the package of A3 paper that had been addressed to Norway, but had then been crossed out and sent to her in the UK instead.
    So after paying £4.22 extra postage to get it specifically sent to me in Norway, it still ended up with her in the UK.
    I'm very frustrated and I'll be sending Jackson's an e-mail shortly.

      Update 2! Just got an e-mail back, Jackson's are sending me a replacement by priority mail and have also refunded me the extra shipping I paid for! A brilliant result, my faith in them is restored. :)

    • @ClaudiaSketches

      Update 3! Apparently it wasn't priority but was sent from their warehouse priority. Oh well. Anyway, it got delivered to me yesterday! 2 months after making my initial order. I'm pleased it's finally here. On the other hand, they had only corrected the recipient and not the misspelled address or telephone number, so the courier had a hard time locating me. If DHL hadn't guessed, the parcel would've been returned to sender.
      So yes, good result, although I wish that Jackson's were perhaps a little more critical of corrections and addresses.

    Happy New Year to you Claudia...
    May this year be a milestone for you.. personally-wise and career-wise.
    I live in Lebanon.. where it is almost very hard to ship things located in the US or other parts of the world. Most fancy art shops do not really ship overseas.. and we cannot receive anything through Amazon or eBay... there has to be a mediator. It is said that they are inventing ways and methods to ease up delivery though.. till then, we use the local items: mostly from specific brands. They are so limited, and you are forced to be creative bearing all the limitations and the quality that these items are made of. It is a bit frustrating.
    Loved your cat. Might try something like this.
    You are always inspirational and superbly talented.
    Love XXX

      Thank you so much, Guru! Hope you too have a fantastic year.
      I certainly appreciate that I am priviliged to live in western Europe and have a few options for art supply shopping. But even though Norway is in western Europe, because it's not part of the EU, a lot of online sellers don't include shipping options. Jackson's is one of the few that seem to have affordable prices and good shipping options (looks like they might also deliver to Lebanon!)- Amazon is cheap but often the shipping is extortionate or there isn't even an option.
      I'm lucky that I have family in the UK to act as mediators but I try and avoid this when possible as I don't like passing on the inconvenience to them.
      Glad you are inspired by the drawing, it's a lot of fun to loosen up and splash colour around a bit :) I definitely recommend it!

      Thank you so much! It's also blue in the reference photo but at first I was tempted to leave it white. I went for the blue because I felt like it would give better context to the warm sunlight that she's sitting in , and compliment the blues in the shadows too :)

      I have an Artist's Edition Colouring book which has thick card stock in it that can be taken out and framed. There are 20 drawings altogether. However, most of the time I just leave the backgrounds as I just can't do them at all. I have some Inktense pencils but I know I'm not using them properly. If I could I'd do way more backgrounds than at present. I watched the Bokeh video but even that is too complicated for me, beautiful as it is.😔

    The piece turned out so great! I love the watercolor effects. I noticed that you used a lot of quick, water soluble supplies for this piece so I want to recommend you something, I don't know if you tried them yet but the Graphitint pencils from Derwent are really nice for sketching and making quick, but put together looking sketches.

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  6 років тому +2

      I'd really like to try out the Graphitint pencils and they have been on my list for a while, but currently I have a huge heap of art supplies to use and try out so it will be a while before I purchase them. They do look beautiful though! Thank you :)

    I like this drawing a lot. I love your typical realist style, but it's nice to see something a bit looser. I love the effect those watercolour markers gave, very painterly! Great work as usual, I am very excited for your content this year! It's my goal this year to start posting my art online, I have to get over the shyness 😊

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  6 років тому +1

      Thank you so much! :D I enjoy playing with colour like this too, it's fun to be more expressive and less critical. I need to get braver at doing this outside of my sketchbook though.
      Thanks again! And it would be awesome for you to post your art online. I was very shy at first too- it's easy for me to say "don't be shy!" but I do remember what it's like at first. But you'll quickly find out that there are so many kind and supportive people out there.

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  6 років тому

      Me too! :D Move Maker is definitely underrated and pretty complete in what I want it to do.
      What I feel is holding me back though is the possibility to have multiple video/picture tracks (e.g. being able to show a picture over the top of my video footage). Also perhaps something that compresses my footage better. I've noticed that on videos where I have to significantly speed the footage up, the audio quality is affected in those sped up areas. Just those little things really. :)

    My husband was from Tunbridge Wells! Well that was the last place he lived in England before he moved here to Canada.
    Right now I am frustrated with Jackson's because there was a brush I wanted that was out of stock since November. Then the brush was "on sale" in December, but it didn't come back in to stock until January, after the sale had ended. I asked if they would sell the brush at the sale price and explained the reason for my request and was told no because all sales are offered "while supplies last." If they had the brush and they ran out during the sale, I would agree. But it was never really on sale, was it? I ordered it anyway because it's still a good price but I still feel they're pretty cheeky. Everyone raves about Jackson's and like you, I want to like them but...

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  6 років тому +1

      It's so lovely to find out other people have heard of Tunbridge Wells! I find it fascinating how small the world becomes online :)
      And that's just shameful! Very cheeky indeed. It doesn't take much to boost customer satisfaction in a situation like this... :/

    I’ve used Jackson’s Art Supplies a lot and so has a friend of mine with no problems. I’ve used the site itself plus they have a shop on eBay with the same prices and postage. Perhaps you’ll have better luck if you use eBay instead.
    Grantham’s Art Discount is another one we use.

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  6 років тому +1

      The first time I used them I wanted to buy the Brush and Pencil items which didn't seem to be available on eBay, so I had to go via their main site. I'll check out their eBay again though. :) Their main site knocks off 20% (VAT, which I end up paying anyway as import tax)... I wonder if their eBay items would also have the tax removed for me?
      So far most of the issues have arisen because I live in Norway though. I think it's a mix of that and just being very unlucky. Glad to hear so far that others have had better experiences than I have though!

    • @pamsanby8506
      @pamsanby8506 6 років тому +1

      Claudia Sketches you should have a look at Grantham's as well. I don’t know if they do ship to Norway, but they seem to ship to other countries so you may find they do. I got my Brush and Pencil via Jackson’s eBay. Perhaps, like you say, they didn’t sell it there when you wanted it. Another eBay shop I use is Curtisward .... They ship worldwide. Amazon sell Jackson's Art Supplies too. Look in the list of 'other sellers'.

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  6 років тому +1

      Thanks again, Pam! I can't remember exactly if the issue was that the products weren't available at the time on eBay, or that they didn't have a shipping option listed for Norway. The items had to be sent by special road package (too dangerous to fly). Jackson's also had a bug on their own website which meant that no shipping options were available for the fixatives and Touch-Up texture to be sent by Road Parcel to Norway.
      It took some persuading for them to actually look into the issue for me. I even had to provide *proof* that another artist in Norway had bought the same items previously, and got them delivered! I then had to make a phonecall for them to actually get around to placing the order for me. After all of this, the package eventually got sent off, but a few days into its journey, it had to be returned because somebody forgot to ship it as "Road Parcel Only". It was just one thing after another.
      I'll keep these other shops and outlets in mind when I next have to make an order though. :)

      I’ve just had a look on both Amazon and eBay and Jackson’s is more expensive on them both than if you go to their own website! Hmm! Not good.

    You'll probably have to have the package returned and refunded as the staff messed up the correction (person and address) they shipped it to. It's odd that you've had so many issues with them , they are usually really good with fixing issues. I've never had any issues with Jackson's Art messing up an order or receiving packages in the usa (though they don't sale backorder items to the usa), I've only placed 3 orders with them so far so I may have just been lucky. You might be able to have the shipping company update the address and name though your mother may need to be the one to do it as it's under her name vs yours. Hopefully you'll be able to get the package though and good luck with your all your studies.

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  6 років тому

      If the package does arrive at the post office and I can't pick it up, after a few days the package will be automatically returned to sender anyway. If it doesn't make it through the post (becasue the address is incorrectly written) it should also be returned to sender automatically. If this is the case I'll be phoning them again to ask for a refund, or for a replacement to be sent... haven't decided which yet, I need to check to see if I can actually purchase this pad elsewhere.
      Unfortunately they sent the package via standard shipping so the address can't be changed en-route. I didn't fancy paying £18 for tracked shipping via DHL. Last time my order was sent via DHL and they too were a nightmare- very slow and didn't even bother (multiple times!) to deliver my packages to me or a neighbour. I have emailed Jackson's and there's nothing they can do to change my address either.

    Your work is beautiful...I would have enjoyed the vedio more if you would have explained what you are doing on the piece of work and not talked about other things.

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches  5 років тому

      I appreciate your feedback! However, the footage shown here simply wouldn't have existed if I wasn't to talk about the things I talked about in the video. I don't usually record sketchbook work- the artwork here was essentially just a visual vehicle for my commentary.
      If you're interested in my process, talk about my process in many of my other videos. I explain my technique for waterbased brush pens (like what I use in this video), in many of my reviews on this medium. Here's the playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLj5nL5XzgAZlMzLjpIyL1o4xqstrWvfle.html
